Any KPers tan very easily??

Hey..I'm Filipino/Chinese/White, while my Asian side has excellent skin, my White side is the typical fair skined/eyes/hair, head to toe freckles! I have no idea where mine came from and why it gets so..

But I do notice now (that I pay more attention) that even when I get the confidence to bare arms, I tan fairly easy! I live in Southern Cali so of course the sun is plentiful, so since tanning reduces the overall ugliness, and for the bigger bumps (some of mine get pretty cyst looking) heal quicker since the sun rays help dry up the bacteria or whatever..well..I got a tanning membership and now my arms are the darkest part on my body!! my other Kp areas (thighs, back) don't respond the same way..I seem to tan evenly everywhere except my arms which are darker than my body. I do plan on using a different lotion with highter SPF... but just not sure why my arms act this way....

While tanning is extremely dehydrating, i have to lotion even more, but this combined with the epson salt baths, I'm sure my kp is getting better.
Just curious about others. . .

p.s... To make my post more unneccisarly longer..when I was younger I used to spend lots of summers on a boat in the ocean, and I never had KP..only little tiny unnoticable bumps on the back of arms... So I cant help but think, did it get worse since I hid my skin from the sun (since I was less active)?? Or because I was in the Sun too much then suddenly stopped??
haha maybe I tan so easily on my arms cuz my kp is sun thirsty lol..jk.

HI, OhsoLovely:

Your heritage is very interesting. I guess, you have different customs and a very broad and amazing cultural knowledge.

I guess what you are telling us about the sun exposure when you were younger- maybe helped to hide or diminish the look of KP. Daily exposure to sun rays is healthy for 10 minutes or less.

I tan very easily on my arms too, but I think it is because I expose my arms to that area more frequently, also the neck area is darker too.

Right now I'm 100% KP free. I scrub my skin every 2 days with Homemade Salicylic Acid Scrub and wash with a homemade soap. I always moisturize with organic oils. Also have psoriasis which Derm prescribed for short term use Clobetasol.
My psoriasis is 80% better, been using Salyicylic Acid on my legs.

"Tanning membership". Does this mean you go to a tanning salon?

I tan easily. My arms are the darkest, because they get the most exposure.

KP reduced 99%. If I go "off diet" -- grains, sugars, etc. -- or stop oil pulling, KP returns.

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

I'm normally fair skinned (freckles and pinkish hughes to my skin).

All parts of my body BESIDES my arms tan very well.
For some reason I cant ever get my arms as dark as the rest of me. They remain a few shades lighter no matter how much I tan and rarely EVER burn, even when the rest of me gets burnt. My guess is that there is too much built up keratin so it doesnt get the same uva/uvb exposure.

The only time I can remember them burning was when I was young and out in the sun all day. I noticed that all my bumps were completely gone (I'm sure that the redness was still there and just camouflaged by the burnt skin). I got excited cause I thought maybe I had permanently burnt them off. But...two days later, arms were back to normal *shrug*

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

I tan pretty well, if I try. While I like nature and that sort of stuff, I'm not so much "outdoorsy". I like lounging around and reading, which is sometimes difficult in the sun...

One year though, my mum bought me a ten-day unlimited tanning pass at the local tanning salon. I went every day for 20 minutes and was fairly brown (and a wee bit orange!). Also, my KP and acne both faded to nothingness.

SInce then, I've grown to love very strongly pale white/pink skin, which I have, so I don't deliberately tan at all anymore. Unfortunately, my love for my pale skin means very noticeable KP.

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

I don't tan easily. I used to go to the tanning salon, but it took me 20+ visits to the salon before I got a little tan. I stopped because of the health risks and all those relatives of mine that have skin cancer...
I'm South-American of Irish descent. That means I don't look like a Latina, not even from far... everyone thinks I'm from Eastern-Europe/Russia or something cause I'm so white and have delicate features. I also speak some Russian, so when I don't feel like explaining to people that there are white folks in my country, I just tell people I'm from Russia, speak some Russian to them and they shut up about it. If I don't color my hair, it's light brown with a 'lovely' red reflection. Freckles everywhere and the sun just makes it worse. The sun does remove the bumps, it really does, but it's only temporary!
I have come to like my whiteness actually, it makes me stand out and now that I have colored my hair in a very dark brown, I look like Snow White's evil twin, which is pretty cool!

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

I use to be olive-white but now I'm very tanned. It took about 1 week at the beach and it never went away. My mums from South America and my dad is Australian. Luckily we have almost sunny weather everyday so I try to get some sun at least 10mins a day and 30mins on the weekend. It definitely helps my KP. it's almost gone on my thighs and totally disappears in spring/summer..you can't notice it on my arms from a 1m distance at least but you can definitely feel it if you touch it. Over the past few years its gone down a bit. My mum had it and she said it went away in her 20's, her skin is totally smooth now.

When I do tan I put sunscreen on though but I think the general heat and exfoliation helps it. Plus they say 15mins of sun a day is good for you anyway.

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

Hi S.H.,

Thanks for sharing your tanning experience with us. It's good to know that it helped your KP. Many people are now being found to be deficient in Vitamin D. Researchers say that sunblock prevents the production of Vitamin D on the skin. By all means continue to use sunblock, but give yourself sunning without sunblock some of the time to keep up your Vit. D levels. Adequate vitamin D reduces inflammation, perhaps part of the reason why KP lessens with sun exposure.

Read this article if you are interested in learning more about Vit. D production

Dietary Supplement Fact Sheet: Vitamin D

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

Yea I've heard that..like you need some sun each day. I use sunscreen on my face alot becasue i get freckles easily there. I only put a very light coating on my arms becasue its does freckle a tiny bit if i spent like half and hour in the sun. everywhere else i leave out..hmm maybe thats why my KP on my thighs went away quicker.....But thanks for the tip- interesting!

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

I'm olive skinned and tan very easily. My Kp is pretty much gone because of Kerol Redi Cloths but I forgot them on a recent trip to Mexico and the kp never came back as it always does when I miss my Kerol. It had to be the sun and salt water.
Before I found the Kerol which works for me- I used to go in the sun alot- it made the bumps go away. Could be the Vitamin D in the sun, some doctors say. I use sunscreen on my face usually but other than that I don't really use it. Not safe I know but I always seem to forget the body.

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

I am asian and I tan very easily. The vitamin D from the sun really, really helps. I have it on the back of my arms, thighs and calves, but most of my KP is gone!

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

i am half bengali and half white french, with my french side quite pale with dark hair
i have dark hair with skin almost as light as my french side so that in the winter i look almost fully white, spring and sutumn i look kind of turkish/arab and in the summer i pretty much look like a light indian/bengali
i tan really easily, which meant that when i went to the mediterranean for three weeks last summer i got really dark and my kp was much better. However when i tan i get hyperpigmentation on my knees which i hate so im really stuck on whether i prefer tan or no tan.
i never really notice whether parts of me tan better, my forearms, face, chest and feet usually are most tanned though because they are first and mostly exposed to sun especially at home in the UK and i have excellent skin there
last winter i went on a sunbed about four times meaning i was extra tanned this year and still have not lost my tan still at christmas time
overall i feel like i do not want to tan so much at once ( four sunbeds over three weeks, then three weeks of strong mediterranean sun), it is probably better to be gradual as i have darkkkk kneees
sorry i kind of went off track, just realised i didnt full focus on your post, hope you find it useful though
xxxx

Re: Any KPers tan very easily??

I tan very easily, but that's because of my bad tanning bed habit.
