dietary solutions?

I've just found out what to call the red bumps on my backside and just found this site. I have read a few posts here that include some dietary tips (for example, no sugar, a CUP of flaxseed a day, {which seems like a LOT,} etc.) I'm wondering about other dietary solutions. Anyone?

Re: dietary solutions?

Hi Kris,

Welcome to the KP Forum.

Where did you read a recommendation for a cup of flaxseed a day? You are right -- that is a lot. The recommended amount is two tablespoons freshly ground each day (use a coffee grinder). Don't cook it, as heat destroys omega 3. As far as other dietary solutions, for me, avoiding carbohydrates makes a huge difference. But we are all different and respond differently. I hope you try different remedies until you find one that helps you. Please let us know if you do.

Re: dietary solutions?

It was on here someplace... someone said she used a cup of ground flaxseed in her oatmeal every day. Yes, I'll keep experimenting and see what works, watch the carbs and sugar, keep eating flaxseed, (of which I have about 2T every day in my yogurt.) Tricky!
Thank you...

Re: dietary solutions?

Kris,

You can also get sufficient omega 3 from 1/4 cup of fresh walnuts a day, or 2-3 servings of salmon a week. I eat canned salmon, as it is usually wild-caught and higher in omega 3. Farmed salmon, which is often the fresh salmon for sale, is not as high in omega 3, and contains antibiotics and PCB, the same chemical found in some plastic bottles and suspected of causing health problems.

Re: dietary solutions?

Mmmm... yummy. It's lunchtime. Thank you. Does eating plenty of omega 3's help you in terms of your KP? If it does, I wonder if taking a supplment would help even more? I like to get vitamins and minerals through my diet but sometimes you just can't get enough. I'll have to research that and see what I find.
Thanks...
Wait, I just thought of something: In the past 5-6 months that I've been eating about 2T of ground flaxseed in my yogurt every day, I've been surprised at how quickly my hair grows and how I rarely have problems with my nails getting cracked and dry. I WONder if - since fast hair growth implies that follicles are healthy and working well, and since KP seems to be somehow related to follicle function or health - omega 3 consumption, at whatever level, could positively affect your follicles and minimize KP symptoms? Hmmm... I guess I don't want to OD on omega 3s, but it's worth looking into where that line is and whether getting closer to it (in terms of Omerga 3 daily consumption) would help with KP symptoms.
Anyway, just a thought...

Re: dietary solutions?

It is possible to get too much of omega 3. The proportion of omega 3 to omega 6 is important. If you do your research on this, let us know what you find out.
