new here - KP and picking
Finally i've figured out what those bumps are on my arms that i've had since i was little. I remember my dad saying to me, before i knew what they were , "stop picking at my arms, only little old ladies do that". Ugh.
Anyways - mine is on the outer areas of my arms, for the most part. sometimes on my thighs, but not much. My KP isn't very noticeable, but my problem is that I can't stop picking at the bumps, and it's the red spots that result that make my arms look bad. It drives me nuts - I guess i must have obsessive tendencies with stuff like that... i don't know. I've never tried anything for a long period of time - i'd just get frustrated. But, now that i've found this group i think i'll peep around and see what works for some members and give it a try. -angelA ![]() |

That's crazy that your name is Angela and your story is exactly like mine. Mine is not that bad. It's also on my outer arms and thighs. They were gone for a long time. When I was little they used to call them "allergy bumps". I think they went away when I was 21 and away at college. Now I am 30, married and the bumps are back. I feel like I am going thru adolescents all over again. I had to go to 3 different dermotologysts before I found out what they were. He gave me the Urea Redi-Cloths and I have been using them for 3 days. I haven't noticed a big difference yet, but he said it's not a fast process and that it could take months... SUMMER months of course. Why couldn't they have reappeared in Winter. Well I just wanted to write and say that I'm happy to be able to read about it and see that I'm not the only freak. IF ANYONE KNOWS ANY OTHER TREATMENT BESIDES THE KEROL (UREA) REDI PADS that works and is fast PLEASE let me know. Thanks, Angela |

Re: new here - KP and picking
Try Fresh's "Brown Sugar Body Scrub". It seriously leaves nothing left to pick. It is not a one-time cure all, so you must use it every day or every other day, but it is the best thing I have found for KP in my lifelong search. I think the combo of the scrub, lemon juice and oil that makes it work best. It is expensive, but worth it. (Fresh.com) And I promise I don't work for them--I just know how frustrating this condition is. I have terrible scars from picking and must wait for them to fade over time, now that I have stopped.
Another trick is to wear sleeves whenever you can. I found that I picked when bored (like sitting in traffic) and not being able to get to your arms helps break the habit. Even if you just throw on a light sweater in those situations. |

Re: new here - KP and picking
that IS a good idea - i think i'd need to duct tape my sleeves around my arms to keep me from getting to them, lol.
i was thinking about trimming my nails as close as i can so i'd have nothing to pick with. i'd hate the way they looked, but i guess it's better than having nice nails and scarred up arms! |

Re: new here - KP and picking
I admit it I am a horrible picker! I have had KP since I was little, I just in the last couple of years have started wearing "shorter" sleeves I use to only buy 3/4 sleeved or long sleeved shirts. I was always soooo jealous of my friends that could wear tank tops. I have also recently found a product made by Avon that has made a BIG difference in my KP I bought it thinking it would be a waste of money like many of my other KP-ridding lotions/creams but I have been VERY pleased with it and have actually bought 3 more tubes (just in case they quit selling it). Anyway I only have the KP on my arms so I can't really say if it would work elsewhere the name of the product is skin bump minimizer from the Moisture Therapy line. Give it a try! The price is right, I just bought mine on sale for $3.99/tube. Good Luck

Re: new here - KP and picking
I use AMBI you can get it at any drug store. It is marketed as being a product that evens skin tone. It works wonders on my arms, I use it in the shower in the morning. I haven't tried it on my legs yet.

Re: new here - KP and picking
Hi Kitty Catt,
Welcome to the KP Forum. Sun exposure does help. It may be because of increased Vit. D. However, tanning beds may not increase Vit. D. "...most tanning salons calibrate their tanning beds to emit approximately 95 percent UVA rays. This calibration maximizes the tanning effects of the machine and minimizes the risk of burning. Unfortunately, it also minimizes the amount of vitamin D that can be metabolized relative to the exposure to damaging ultraviolet rays." Are tanning beds a safe source of vitamin D? And tanning beds may be linked to increase in skin cancer. "In fact, a high percentage of health care professionals strongly believe that the artificial UV rays used in tanning beds may cause skin cancer." The Truth About Tanning Bed Vitamin D Sun exposure is the safest. Sunning for 15-20 minutes about 3-4 times a week is a healthy dose. Don't wear sunblock, as that prevents Vit. D. production. kebod |

Re: new here - KP and picking
Yeah I had the same situation at first! :O
Keep yourself occupied, and as what greengrass said, wear long sleeves or something. Also, moisturise the bumps on a daily basis. You can use coconut oil as a suggestion. You might want to exfoliate or sun tan the bumps too to improve the appearance. Just keep busy so you won't be bored and pick on the KP (: |
