I have really red cheeks due to keratosis pilaris and I get really embarrassed about them to the point where I can't leave the house without makeup. I've been to see my GP, a specialist and lots of different hospitals (privately and NHS because we can't afford to go completely private). I've tried lots of different creams, antihistamines, beta blockers, steroids and I'm going to go on the pill. Nothing works. I'm going on holiday with a group in the summer and I'm terrified to go without makeup because my cheeks are so bad and are made worse in the sun and I'm scared for people to see me like that.
Can anyone suggest something that could work? I'm getting fairly desperate now. thank you ![]() |

Re: red cheeks affect my confidence
Hey Jo... I was diagnosed with KP this year when it pretty much exploded on my torso and legs. During the same doc appointment, I mentioned my red cheeks and my doc said "Oh that's just Roseccea" (sp?) She gave me different options for my cheeks as in - avoiding certain foods & such and also using Cetaphil for oily skin , but my main focus was the KP since summer was coming and I want to wear shorts. During my research I came upon the Oil Pulling regime. The KP on my legs, arms, & torso is almost all gone with a few stragglers. In the meantime, I went to 2 hydrotherapy for my colon. Between the three things - Oil Pulling, Cetaphil, & hyrdotherapy.... my cheeks are really improved. I'm quite happy with the result - I still have mild blushing, and some red spots but NOTHING like before. After cleansing with the Cetaphil, I've started using the ACV as a toner and coconut oil as a moisturizer. I'm not sure if this will help or hurt... but I'm all for trying it. I'd like to find a natural alternative to the cetaphil, but I'm going to stick with it for now since it seems to be working! Hope this helps in some way!

Re: red cheeks affect my confidence
Upon re-reading my post I DO want to say that I think the diagnosis of Roseccea was totally off, I feel its totally related to the KP. Forgot to say that! :-)

Re: red cheeks affect my confidence
Hi jo246
I've only just joined here. But I saw your post and I can completely relate to how you feel. The make-up need is the same with me, I have to wear 3 layers because I fear that if people saw my skin they'd think I look like a freak. Which is silly to think but I cant help that. Anyway I hope that the treatment honeynajar suggested has helped! With me my cheeks, chin, ears and eyebrow area are affected. Is this the same for you? If it is then you might have a condition called Ulerythema Ophyrogenes. And the only permenant fix is laser surgery. Speak soon x |
