Exactly how do you safely remove an Ingrown yourself. I'm so scared to do it. I have a lot of them, is it even worth trying? Does it leave scarring?

try being Italian ha!!!
there's a product I've found (although if you're allergic to creams be really careful)...it's actually called Magic Lotion (you can find at Target) and it's used for African-American men to get rid of their facial hair/beard remover...I know that sounds weird but I have coarse dark hair and someone suggested I try it on my bikini line (make sure you haven't trimmed or waxed lately as it'll sting). I used it on my bikini line and it worked fairly decent (I had to put a pretty thick layer but if your hair isn't very coarse it'll probably work better). Just a thought...but it sounds like you're trying to find something to get rid of the ingrown bumps...what about aloe vera gel in its pure format (not the stinging gel kind for sunburns)-- that sometimes helps to soothe irritation? |

when i remove them i just use maybe like a sterilized pin (just use a match to sterizlize it) and then i use tweezers. If it doesn't come out easily just leave it alone and put the bump stopper stuff on or whatever you want to use. Don't worry- eventually it really will look better when you find something that works for you. I used to HATE HATE HATE my bikini line but now it looks a lot better. what a pain though

Yikes! That's scary, I'd have to break the skin to pick out the black dots. I hate them though, they look ridiculous. Will waxing help?

A little help: Shave recently damp binki line in growth direction of hair, not against it. And, yes, moisturize. Always has helped me.

i tried that shaving in the direction towards the growth of the hair i was all stubbly still! my hair grows soo fast too grrr. i guess for the ingrown hairs you should just try one of these ingrown hair products..i recommend high time bump stopper, some others recommended some other things. The product i use is for african american men shaving their beards i guess, and someone else mentioned another product that sounds similar. Just don't pick at them too much or they'll get infected! i know how it is..it's frustrating so you pick and then they look worse and then you hate them even more and then you think ohh now i'll have scars haha. I even went to a dermatologist once and she told me she had to look at my bikinik line to see what i was talking about. It was embarrasing because i was all stubbly and my bikini line was a mess from the ingrown hairs- i try not to shave all that often because it helps hehe anyways good luck. dermatologists often are no help at all! i've read a few posts where people have that same problem. GET WITH IT PEOPLE

What terrrible news! I guess there's no hope at all. Picking them will causes scars and I have too many to pick anyway. It's just so fustrating to see some many women in swimsuits with no problems and I have to have all these hideous bumps all year long! WHY ME!

Exfoliate down there with a (gentle) body scrub every day, even if you are not going to shave every day. This seems to help a lot to prevent (and get rid of) ingrown hairs. Also, tea tree oil is great for healing, and reducing the appearance of blemishes. I dilute mine with jojoba oil and it's a great moisturizer too
![]() I'm still tempted to get bikini-line laser done though. It would probably save a lot of hassle.. But I don't have the $! |

Shaving and waxing are two big causes for ingrown hairs for me. I found that laser was the only thing that removed the hair and did not cause any ingrown hairs. It's not cheap but it is effective. After about 5 treatments, I don't have any bikini line left. I did that over 5 years ago and it still has not come back.

Hey, I've got the same problem.. or kinda anyway.. I didn't use to have a problem with my bikini line. But when I was about 13-14 I started to shave it to make it look more neat. Well that I should've never done!! Cos the dark hair started to 'spread' cos i shaved bigger areas all the time..I got ugly red bumps and burn marks. Later I discovered I could wax it, so I did.. then I got the problems witht he ingrown hair! I got so many of them.. and they didn't 'fade' away even if I left them alone for months! It's the most embarrassing thing now. I have KP nearly all over me. And now, at the age of 18, I've learned to live with KP in a way... but I hate having to hide myself in towels while i'm swimming!! And now I never want to go swimming anymore (even thou I love it) just because this problem... Ingrow Go from dermadoctors didn't work. I thought it was because I've got also KP. Maybe... But it helped a bit, so it wasn't a complete waste of money. Only problem is that I can't find it in my country! I bought two bottles in Australia.. now it's finnishing. So I'd love to hear from some with the same problem.. How do I get rid of this???? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

OK....two answers for two questions
First, bikini line laser surgery probably costs about 2-3 thousand USD. It depends on the hair and how many treatments you need. I have a friend who had it done and it looks gorgeous. It's VERY painful though. Think of it as a thick rubber band being snapped against your skin very fast for a long period of time. Secondly, I am FINALLY an Esthetician. It was an incredible and educational journey that I am excited to begin as a career. KP was my "thesis" topic, here is what I recommend for ALL KP sufferers to try on areas of the body, except inside of the vaginal area. From my research KP is something that almost 50% of the population suffers from, it is, in short, an over production of Keratin (a protein that makes up your hair and nails) in the hair follicle. People with KP seem to exfoliate less naturally than others so we have to prod it along. Chemical exfoliation has been working for me. Find a body wash and lotion with salacylic or glycolic acid in it. Depending on your KP, you may need a "cosmesutical" grade formulation, meaning you can not get it at the grocery or drug store. It is something either you have to get from a dermatologist or a professional esthetician. If you are a teen (or just a frugal adult) and can not afford to spend $40 on a bottle of body lotion, try your own enzime "peel" smash up some papaya fruit and rub it on the area and rinse (this is good for your face as well) The key to controlling KP is exfoliation. DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT use a cheap manual exfoliant, something like the St. Ies apricot. This is why. Inexpensive manual exfolants, (manual exfoliant menaning something with granuals in it), are inexpensive for a reason. In order to keep cost down the labs that make it can not use the highest quality products. Under a microscope a cheap exfoliant looks like broken shards of glass. The granuals are not smooth, but a better quality exfoliant will have a smooth surface which will not scratch your skin but gently rub off the top few layers of skin. A chemical exfoliant on the other hand, will give you better exfoliation. If you are young do not consider using a chemical exfoliant on your face without the advice of a professional esthetician or dermatologist. If you would like to email me privately, I will give you some product names to try. See your dermatologist, Ammonium Lactic Acid has also worked for me. If you are someone who is interested in skin, as a KP sufferer myself, I urge you to get into the business of skin. Become a dermatologist or an esthetician. If you do that, you can treat your own KP witout having to pay prices that the rest of the public has to pay. You can play with formulations of products that are "cosmesutical" grade and find the best one for you. KP can be an expensive thing to treat, but if you have the resources to do it yourself, it makes life alot easier! The best thing about being an esthetician is the FREE SERVICES (waxing, facials, etc) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS do a patch test before trying ANY new product on your body. Give it 24 hours to react, if you don't get an allergy, proceed with caution and give it a try! As a disclaimer, and to protect myself, CONSULT A DERMATOLOGIST before doing anything you feel uneasy about using. Also, as an esthetican you can get additional training that makes you certified to run a laser hair removal machine. Talk about being hairless for next to NOTHING! |
