Newly Diagnosed-questions! please help!
New member, first post: So I have had a rash on my thighs for as long as I can remember. It didn't start bothering me until recently when it became painful. I finally went to the doctor, and was diagnosed with KP.
So the doctor has started me on Ammonium Lactate cream, prescription strength, twice a day. He says to give it a few weeks to let it work and if this doesn't work, we will try something else. 2 Questions. 1. I've been reading exfoliating works, what kind of exfoliator and what kind of loofah/wash cloth is best? 2. I read that I should not apply the Ammonium Lactate to freshly shaved legs, I shave often. Does anyone have any information/experience with this? Thanks so much! I am so glad I found this forum! ![]() |

Re: Newly Diagnosed-questions! please help!
Hi Emrouge,
Welcome to the KP forum. I hope you find help and ideas here. If no one answers your question here, you may want to join some of the ongoing discussions with your questions and comments. I would like to ask everyone else reading this if they have experienced painful KP. I thought it was virtually painless, except for emotional distress. I can't remember reading any posts here that describe it as "painful". It is possible it is something beside KP, and hopefully our readers here will help us out. kebod |

Re: Newly Diagnosed-questions! please help!
Hello Emrouge!!
First of all, do not get discouraged if the AmLac doesn't work. There are a lot of products out there. Exfoliation CAN work, but sometime it just aggravates and irritates the problem. A mesh loofa MAY work if used gently. I wouldn't use an exfoliating lotion without talking with your dermatologist first as some of these products contain perfumes and products that can flare you KP and make it worse!! The reason that you shouldn't apply Lactate to freshly shaved legs is because it is lactic acid and will definitely irritate any open pores due to shaving!! I've done it--burns bad!! Hope this is helpful!! |

I suppose if someone's skin were sensitive enough, the KP could feel painful if it were inflamed/infected. After going through a rough patch with dermatographism, I have discovered how problematic skin can potentially be. |
