I just starting shaving my upper arms because I noticed the KP on my upper thighs got much better after a trip to TX. I was in a swim suit the whole trip and have to shave my legs everyday. Now the difference was that instead of soap I used the ladies shave gel stuff to shave. Within two days all the bumps were dissapearing and the reddness was going away. I noticed the same results this year but once again only when I used shave gel and not soap. I was kind of worried about regrowth but decided it is better to shave then to deal with this ****. I shaved my arms using the shave gel and the very next day I noticed my arms are much smoother. I have always exfoliated and used hydroxys but when I shaved I noticed a bunch of dead skin coming off. It has been a couple of days now and the redness is clearing up and the bumps are much better. I also use the lachydrin at night and after I shave but prior to shaving It didn't seem to help any at all.

Well it doesn't help the KP but I've been doing it for like 3 years and so far my KP has remained the same I guess it depends on skin sensitivity

I shave my arms periodically, when I notice the hair getting pretty long. I shave in the direction of hair growth for less irritation. I think the shaving helps exfoliate as well.

i shaved my arms in the beginning of the summer because it went in crazy directions to begin with and was annoying me (just my forearms) and i barely had any KP there to begin with except for a couple bumps and it didn't effect them at all and the hair doesn't grow back stubbly or darker (esp if you're tan) for me if you let it grow back 100%. it's just that when it's growing back, the sun and stuff don't effect it to make it finer and stuff. also, remember to moisturize right after you shave and don't lean your arm against anything for too long, like when i'm on the computer, i have a tendancy of pressing my forearm against the arm of the chair and it caused ingrowns and kp when i never had any there before

i've shaved my arms for years just because the hair on my arms stands straight up rather than laying down nicely... i've noticed if i go a few days without shaving my legs and then shave them they look better but it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference on my arms just makes them smoother really...and as far as it growing back dark and coarse i've never had a problem with that...sometimes i get lazy and don't shave for a while and it all grows back pretty much the same as it originally was...

KP and shaving

I am new and this is my first post. I am 45 and have KP on my arms, from shoulders to wrists, and my stomach, and thighs. I always had it on my upper arms, but never on my forearms until I was pregant and had IV's for 7 weeks for dehydration. I began having reactions to the medical tape they were using, and of course it hurt my arms every time they ripped it off...so I began to shave. II only did it a couple of times. Since then its been horrendous and I have picked it so much. Sometimes I get the secondary infections.

I honestly think that I wouldn't have had it without that combo of shaving/tape allergy. My thighs are another story...but I've heard of other women getting it after pregnancy.

I exfoliate every day with ST. Ives apricot scrub. Its medicated and feels so gooooood...its full of ground up nuts. Its almost like sandpaper! I also have been using a Mary Kay product called "calming influence." I don't know if its working, but I had a sample. My arms are smoother. Yadda, yadda. Sorry to get off topic.

Peace,
OrigamiMommi

shaving arms

I shave my arms twice a week, as needed. The regrowth is not any thicker or darker than before. There is no stubble. I like the look of bare arms, and this is the most effective method of achieving that result that I have tried (waxing, epilation, sanding, etc.). As far as I can see, there are no down sides to doing this...

I shave my arms just because i think hair is disgusting. My arms are much much smoother n clearer. I barely see any bumps anymore like on my arms. This also might be because i lost 70 pounds and i read somewhere that people who are overweight with kp have more or it on their body. My kp used to be alot worse but then i changed my diet work out n eat healthy and it improved alot. I also shave my legs constantly and get sun naturally outdoors which helps alot.

Re: Shaving arms

I've been shaving my arms since I was about 12 (I'm 20 now), because I'm of Italian descent and my body hair is almost black (removing unwanted facial hair is a whole other story). I only have KP on my upper arms and back though, and I've noticed that for me theres a plus size to KP --- for some reason I don't have thick dark hair on the spots that have it. The hair is softer and much lighter in color. Anyway, I tend to get razor burn wherever I shave, and even using lotion right after I shower doesn't always help that --- does that tend to happen more often to KP sufferers?
