Hi..I'm only 18 and after doing some research I found out I have this keratosis pilaris ****.
Its very frustrating because I am also a fashion model and will be doing a lingerie show this year along with working with various designers..I have to get rid of this very soon!!!! I've recently begun eating a lot of Omega-3s and I'll see how that goes...anyone have tips on getting rid of this off of the lower body (i have it on butt, thighs, and hips) ? On shows they put us in nylons and use a bunch of cremes and tanning lotions so the skin looks flawless but I would feel a bit embarassed having someone rub creme on the keratosis pilaris! Anyone use any certain herbs or alternative medicine (Chinese, Ayurveda...etc) that helped? Anyone use sauna and had it help? Also anyone know if drinking milk makes it worse? I recently stopped drinking milk and my entire body feels so much better..but the redness still there ![]() Anyone use sauna and had it help? I read that heat makes it less visible but for me it makes it worse! Last edited by tricky; 02-07-2007 at 02:38 PM. |

No cure for KP, but this helps...
Something that has helped me is when I tan. I have KP in my buns and my arms and when my skin is tanner it sort of blends in. That is just what works for me.

What has really helped me with my KP is manually exfoliating with a scrub. I know skin products can get expensive, so I don't bother with them. This is what I do: mix sugar and oil (any kind: baby, vegetable, olive, whatever), and scrub my arms with that every day before I shower. I scrub each arm for about a munite each. Make sure you get all the KP areas. Then I soap it off.
Why sugar and oil? Well, you can use any sort of small grainy thing: ground nuts, sand, salt, sugar, whatever. I chose sugar because it's cheap, readily avaliable, and it won't hurt if you have a cut (I've actually heard of people using sea salt for exfoliating... but since I regularly picked at my KP I didn't even want to try that). I use canola oil because it is also cheap and I already have buckets of it on hand for cooking. It can't be water or water-based because the sugar will dissolve, and it won't scrub or exfoliate your skin. It must be oily. Since KP is caused by our skin being incapable of exfoliating properly on its own, I have to step in and manually exfoliate my skin myself. I've only been doing this for a little over a week now (at least a minute per arm per day), and already my skin is much softer! The bumps are getting flatter, and I can hardly feel them anymore. They're still visible under harsh lighting, but I assure you the texture is getting better every day. Depending on how sensitive your skin is, you might not want to do this every day. My skin is very thick and tough due to my bad KP, so this exfoliation process doesn't bother me much. But bear in mind that if it hurts you then perhaps try and use less force or less frequency. |

I have had KP since I was little, I am now 30 years old, and I have it on my arms, back & stomach! But I am still able to model, I was in a 2004 Bikini calendar if you look close at the pictures you can see it on my stomach. It’s been stressful, depressing and extremely frustrating. Moving to AZ from OH assuming that technology would be more up to date due to a larger city, I was hoping I would find a cure. I went to the dermatologist on Tuesday March 6th she told me I was the 1st person she’s ever seen it on the stomach and told me that within the past year they have found something that will help it go away its called Kerol Redi-Cloths she had given me 2 samples and a prescription for 20 pads and asked me to apply it 2 times a day and make another appointment in 30 days. I used my 1st pad Tuesday night, it burned a little on my stomach & arms felt like I was on fire but I took the pain. I skipped Wed and Thurs I looked at my stomach and noticed that ˝ of those damn little bumps are gone!! I looked a few times actually. Try it!! Let me know if it works
Good luck Kim |

Re: 18 years old..any tips??
Kerol works for me though I'm not totally clear. I would say 95 percent though. Worth the investment, IMO
