Coconut oil without exfoliation? On stomach?

I'm considering giving coconut oil a try. However, from what I've been reading, most people seem to use it with a loofah in the shower. I cannot scrub my skin because I scar very easily (I have black skin that scars very easily at the slightest abrasion). I usually exfoliate with glycolic acid lotions and peels (without much success anyway). Can I just use the coconut oil as a moisturizer after my shower without scrubbing it on and if so, will I get results? Can I also alternate it with my glycolic acid lotion? (I use DCL 20)

Also, for those with kp on stomach area, has coconut oil helped? I've read on this forum that kp in this area is the hardest to get rid of.

I've been having this huge flare-up in the past three weeks and I've been using DCL and glycolic peels. My skin is extremely raw and still itchy as hell. It's as unsightly as it is uncomfortable. I'm feeling really down...

Hey There Freedom68

I'm not Black, but my two best friends are, and we all have kp. It is especially devastating for them because their skin scars so badly..and of course EVERYONE knows how bad the dots are, no matter what their skin color. HERE IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL HELP...FAST:

1. Get your hands on some cheap acid...try ebay, since Lord knows we're all sick of spending so much money on this thing.

2. Figure out what strength you need, and how often you need to apply it, etc.

3. THEN after you peel, keep it up with scrubby gloves and a lotion like Neostrata

4. Also, I don't know if you've read about oil pulling on this forum. Well, it is no joke! I have talked to numerous people who have cured chronic dandruff and psoriosis...I guess it just takes some dedication.

5. Lastly, I've heard that there are some WONDERFUL products for Black Skin that you can get off the internet. One person I heard of had a lot of success with some soap she bought.

Good Luck! There IS Hope

I'm currently using coconut oil in the shower by just slathering it on after I use my body wash. I do use a shower pouf, but not a real loofah, because it's too harsh on my skin, and irritation like that can make my psoriasis flare up. You could try one of those, and just rub lightly. But as for applying the coconut oil, I just scoop up handfuls and smooth it over my skin while I'm still in the shower, rinse off the excess, and get out. Pat dry with a towel. It hasn't completely gotten rid of my KP, but it's certainly made my skin feel softer, and the bumps have gone down a bit, although not entirely.

Exclamation Moisture verses Acid

There seems to be two main schools of thought with kp. Those who treat with moisturising those who treat with acids scrubbing and abrasion. Personally for many years I scrubbed myself raw and used every strong drying wash on the market thinking that kp was some form of acne. But my skin is actually very dry and sensitive so I did more damage than good.

I have now decided to treat with moisture and have had much better results. For the past 2 years I have been taking omega oil suppliments which have made my skin less dry tight and red. The most exfloiating I do now is use a soft wash cloth maybe once a week. I had also been using almond oil after I shower but have recently switched to coconut oil after discovering this forum. I rub it in throughly whilst still in the shower and have noticed improvements in just over a week.

I have also being doing the oil pulling which I found out about on this forum. It has only been 2 1/2 weeks but I have had the best results ever with this. First thing I noticed was smooth elbows then kp started to get better. Probably at 45% improvement just now and hoping for even more. Thought it was worth a try as an inexpensive and safe treatment to try, even if your family will tease you about it. My husband is so impressed with the results that he started today! You said that the acid treatment does not help that much so maybe you should take a break from it and try the moisturising methods to control your kp especially if it hurts and itches. If your kp gets a lot worse after a month or so of moisture rather than acid then just go back to your old regime.

Just my 5 pence worth, hope you find some relief soon

I also have KP on my stomach and though I've had a fair amount of success treating it on the rest of my body, NOTHING is working for the stomach (except for a sunburn over the summer but I'm not happy using that as a solution). I can tell you that I found coconut oil to make it worse though. I do exfoliate that area gently and am trying various moisturizing products. Of course everyone reacts differently, so if you want to try coconut oil you may as well- if it doesn't work move on. If anyone finds anything that works for their stomach, I'd sure like to hear about it.

stubborn stomach kp

Hi I don't have kp on my stomach but a couple of people on the oil pulling thread have said that their stomach kp has improved / cleared with the oil pulling. So maybe you could ask them directly if theirs was very bad or just mild.
