Thumbs up

I've been tanning for a few weeks now - only about once every 5 days or so, and I've seen a huge improvement! I'm also using tea tree oil and Lubriderm at night, and sulphur soap with a body scrubber, clearasil vanishing cream, and Lubriderm in the morning...big, big difference.

tea tree oil?

I was just wondering what the tea tree oil does for the kp.I'm not familiar w/ it at all. I also started tanning & I think it has helped somewhat so far but the sulf soap & stiff brush I think has made the biggest improvement. I just wish I could completely get rid of these darn bumps but so far can't seem to find the "cure".

I'm trying a little tanning also, it seems to help disguise the redness somewhat.

I'm really not sure what the tea tree oil is supposed to do! I read somewhere that it's good for the skin and I think it has been mentioned a couple times on the old message board. I saw it on the shelf when I was at the store one day, so I decided to give it a try.

Cool

I found the tea tree oil at Wal-Mart...I think it was in the section with the band-aids and stuff like that, which didn't make much sense - I would think it would be with the vitamins or skin care supplies. It comes in a small brown glass bottle.

i posted this in another section, but you can get a big bottle of tea tree oil (compared to the one at body shop) from Target for $4.99

Tea tree oil is/was used by aboriginees in australia to treat acne (so i heard). I think it is an anti-septic of some sort.

also, it works really well on pets if they have hot spots in the summertime!

Tea tree essential oil is good for infected skin conditions (injuries, fungal diseases, viral sores, blemished skin such as acne or greasy complexions, also great in vaporizers if one has a cold). It is also one of the few essential oils that can be applied neat (directly) to the skin, it doesn't need to be diluted or mixed with a carrier oil, although doing so would actually be great, as it will help moisturize the kp . It has antiseptic, fungicidal, and antiviral properties yet its mild to the skin. There has been cases of sensitization with this essential oil and if you are using this and have any sort of rash or itching, etc, stop. If you have very sensitive skin, mix it with a carrier oil first just to be safe. When you use any essential oil, a good bet is to read up on them, whether online or to buy an aromatherapy book, to get an idea of a good usage amount, especially if you want to try this on children, or pets.
I have used tea tree eo "neat" on my daughters arms (kp), face (kp), and also acne. It has not cleared them up completely, but, repeat use has helped with the redness and also some of the bumps. We have also tried a tea tree oil cream that was a wonderful moisturizer, I bought it at Vitamin World if I remember correctly.
Sorry for such a long post but I thought I would share what I do know about tea tree oil. I keep this in my house at all times. With kids and flu season, its a must.

You can buy carier oil in any place that sells essential oils.
As I have understood it (and as molsmom says) tea tree oil doesn't have to be diluted with carrier oil.
Has it caused you any irritation or sensitivity?

I buy Tea Tree Oil at WalMart in the vitamin section and it's $3.99 for 3 or 4 oz I believe.
I either put some on a cotton ball and apply directly to the skin or mix it with my lotion in the palm of my hand.

Smile Tanning Helps!!!

I've had keratosis pilaris for 15 years. I have a 7 month old daughter now and after giving birth my kp got worse. It's on the backs of my arms, fronts and backs of my thighs and is spreading to my legs. I went tanning in a bed and it made my kp virtually disappear. It definatley helped. I wore shorts and tank tops and wasn't conscious about pimple looking bumps on my body. I have just now started using creams since I havn't been tanning due to a baby but the creams are not working. My advice to all teenagers who have it. If the creams do not work definately go tanning. It will disappear!
