Whist working in gym I started tanning as it was free for me to use. It worked a treat on the KP and for the 1st time in years my skin started to look great...however, after using the tanning method a couple of times a month over a year I began to get hyperpigmentation and sun damage spots on my face and arms. Combind with my KP the total effect is even worse. So I guess I'm saying in the short term is ok, but long term its the same as sunbathing, it bad for you. Use fake tan instead.

Anyone want to guess why tanning seems to help? You get Vitamin D3 (the sun vitamin)which is necessary for calcium absorption.

a dermatologist specifically told me that tanning causes inflammation to the skin which temporarily makes kp less noticeable. tanning is drying to the skin..so while it helps temporarily..i cant see that it could be good long term.

i go spray tanning so i can get the results of the tan (that hides my alba condition) and i dont have the worry of skin cancer.(I know thats the reason a lot of people don't want to tan to hide their bumps.) In my case, the tanner slightly covers up the bumps but by touching my arm where i have it, you can still feel the bumps. But then again, people have told me in the past that tanning can have a negative impact on my skin. It might make the bumps actually more likely to be seen. I dont know what to think now.

Re: Tanning?
I have heard many different outcomes with the tanning method, with personal experience the more i expose my skin to the sun during summer seasons the more KP reduces. A friend of mine has KP pretty bad on his arms and stomach/chest however over the summer i totally cleared up, there might be three little bumps on each arm but thats it! However i'm not saying tanning works for everyone, but it has worked for many people including myself.
I think it really depends on person to person. i just started tanning yesterday for 5 minutes on a high intensity bed. i went again today for another 5 minutes and notice a very slight reduction. I will try to leave up to date details, and see if it works as i persist. |

Re: Tanning?
yeah - i have just posted in the what works for me - i use olay everyday sunshine and it clears for about a week at a time - the chemicals in the tan react to sugars on your skin - perhaps something to do with that - interesting though eh? maybe specialists should look down that road and find out what it is that makes it effective - so that we dont have to walk around looking like oranges lol

Re: Tanning?

Re: Tanning?
I tan outside whenever i can for about 30min for both my back and stomach. I have mild-severe KP on my upper arms and slight KP on my back and upper legs. I was also concerned about tanning and KP. Although it did improve my KP i asked my derm about it. She said it can often be a short term "cure" but in the long run and be damaging to blood vessels close to the skin which will only inflame KP more. she said to not stop tanning but to liberally apply at least SPF 30 to KP areas before soaking in the sun.

Re: Tanning?
hey guys
the ONLY way kp will clear up completely by tanning is by swimming in salt water( sea) first cuz when u tan and u have salt water dried up on ur skin , the salt will kill all microbes and won't let kp get worse , instead it fully diappears trust me it works 100% but u gotta have the courage to go on the beach I did and it was worth it!!!! No more kp the whole summer baby!!!! |
