Post Re: 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

First of all, thank you to everyone who posts their experience. This forum is amazing. I have lived with KP on my arms and legs my whole life. I have sensitive skin so I have never been able to stay on any of the medications that I had been prescribed as they were way too harsh. I was so excited to learn about the EVCO that I ran right out to Whole Foods and bought a jar. I also bought a bar of the Dr. Bonners Bar Soap. I then went to Bath and Body Works and bought a tube of the Tahiti Sweetie lotion and while I was there also picked up a jar of Need a Margarita Citris Body Scrub. It is a sugar scrub that contains coconut oil. So tonight was my first night trying everything and I did a little experiment. On one leg I used the EVCO, Dr. Bonner's Bar Soap, and then rather than reapply the EVCO, I applied the Tahiti Sweetie lotion. On the other leg I used the Need a Margarita scrub and the Tahiti Sweetie Lotion. I will post over the next few days and let everyone know which combination had the best results. I am praying I have a lot of success like many of you have had.

Re: 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

I'm really deciding to try the coconut oil.

Edit: Are there any pictures of what your KP looks like now after trying the Coconut Oil? I'm really interested in seeing the results.

I get my coconut oil from Holland and Barrett (Pure Coconut Oil from HollandandBarrett.com (UK)) I don't think it's extra virgin though. I don't know how much of a difference that makes. £10 is a little expensive but it's quite a big tub. I still haven't used half of the one I bought.

I also have scaring from scratching and picking. After extensive reading on this site, I have had an amazing break through. I feel incredibly lucky having the first thing I tried work so thoroughly. I have been using the 100% Virgin Coconut Oil. It buy it at Whole Foods. I have been using it for one week. I loofah in on dry skin first. Then I shower, and loofah with a wet loofah on wet skin using an all natural cleansing bar. You can use any all natural cleansing bar. Mine is by Dr. Bonner and has an olive oil and coconut oil base, also bought at Whole Foods. Then at the end of my shower, while still in the shower, I rub the coconut oil all over my body. I rinse off any excess, and pat dry. In two days the KP was 75% gone. In one week it is 95% gone. If it never goes away 100% I will still be forever greatful, and use the coconut oil from now on. The way it has cleared up so quickly though, I am sure it will go away completely.

Anyway, I had to share. I am thankful for this website, and if my experience can help someone else then I feel like I gave something back.
i'm not sure how to even use this... but i've had this hell of a disorder on my skin since i was about 12. kp is usually found on the arms, or upper thighs as i've read, but i have it on the bottom of my legs around the ankles only. i suppose it's not as bad as it can be, but it definitely is unsightly to look at. i don't wear shorts in the summer. i can't enjoy laying on the beach. it affects EVERYTHING and i often feel depressed because of it. i'm currently using a medicated prescription that i apply 2 times a day, but it doesn't seem to be helping. what else do i use and do to make this less noticeable? ANYTHING?!

Hi Katey,

Check out this thread and see if there is anything you want to try. We find that what helps one person doesn't necessarily help another, so you will have to experiment to find something that works for you.

Re: 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Does it matter what brand of coconut oil you use as long as it's 100% extra virgin coconut oil? I don't have a Whole Foods where I live, but I found several brands I can order online that say they are 100% EVCO. Thanks for the tips!

Re: 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

I don't think the brand matters, as long as it is not "rbd" -- refined, bleached and deoderized. Organic is best and is usually available.

For those who live in the U.S., one of the best places to buy coconut oil on line is at Mountain Rose. Carrier and Vegetable Oils

They sell 1 gallon (unrefined) for $41.00 plus shipping. Refined oil is 1 gal for $21.00, an incredible price. Their oil also has a wonderful coconut flavor and aroma. It is great for using topically (applying to the skin), pulling and cooking.

For information about the difference between refined and unrefined:
Carrier and Vegetable Oils
