Erm.. Is there really any difference between extra virgin and virgin coconut oil? For what I've heard there's no difference, it just a matter what the company wants to call it. Unlike olive oil.

This might be a dumb question, but are those of you who are using the coconut oil in the shower (and I presume sort of washing it off) then moisturizing with something else when you get out? Or does the oil moiturize enough that you don't have to? Thanks.

Good to hear the coconut oil is working for others as well. I practically LIVE in Whole Foods now. I use the EVCO after getting out of the shower, I haven't tried it while actually being in the bathtub yet. Does anyone know if it works better if used before bathing then washing it off?

I apply it with a loofah or washcloth in the shower (scrub a little), so it kind of mixes with the water too. It stays on your skin, doesn't wash off unless you use soap. Pat dry with a towel, and then I think it's optional whether you use an additional moisturizer on top or not. Depends on your skin.

I've been using Coconoil now for several months. If I miss about 2 days my KP starts erupting. Two days back on the coconoil and the KP disappears. It is my cure for sure. I have also told my GP to recommend the stuff to other KPers. She was very interested.
I don't have a rigid regime, I either put it on in the shower or use less afterwards as a moisturiser. As long as I use at least every other day I'm OK. I can't remember when I bought the tub I'm using, but its months and I've still got about a quarter of it left. Wonder stuff! |

This is my first time of writing on here.. I'm soo glad that I found this website Im thirty years old and have had kp for as long as i can remeber. My kp went out of control after my third baby was born a year ago..I didnt even know what it was until I went to the dermatolgist a couple of months ago he basicly gave me no hope of it ever getting better, he prescribed me two acid based lotions soo far they havent made a difference. The kp use to be just on my legs but now its on my butt, legs, arms, stomach and fore head.. I defently want some relieave. I will try what you have, hopefully I can post back on here later with some great results. Thank!!! for hope...

Welcome!
I think the great thing about this website is you can read others' stories and experiences with kp, and there is friendly support for discussions! So you gain hope, which is more than is offered by many dermatologists... I would recommend that you find some exta virgin coconut oil from a natural foods retailer, and give that a try for a start. 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil or Jojoba Oil?
I've been using Jojoba Oil for about a week now... It's been OK, but is the Coconut oil better? Has anyone tried both and liked one better than the other? I usually wash my face with Cetaphil soap then when I get out of the shower, with my face still wet, I rub jojoba oil all over my face, then pat dry if still wet... This helps more than not using anything... So, what should I do? Advice?????????????????

For more information on coconut oil, I will bump the relevant threads to the top so you can read about other peoples' experiences.
I'm not sure what brands are available where you are, I would recommend that you check a natural health foods store. In New Zealand we have Extra Virgin Coconut Oil from islands in the South Pacific, so you know it is fresh. It smells really delicious! The regular Coconut Oil for cooking is often made from dried, older coconuts, and it is generally refined to remove any objectionable smells or colours. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is only made from fresh coconuts, on a small scale in the local villages, so it is not refined. It can be used for cooking or on the skin. Jojoba also sounds like a good idea, it is important to apply any oil to the skin while it is still slightly wet, this helps absorption, and locks the moisture into the skin. All the best with your trials. Annuu ![]() |

Hi MCSL:
I don't live in the US, but after looking through previous postings, apparently you can buy Extra Virgin Coconut Oil from the following stores: Wild Oats, Whole Foods and Sunflower Market. You might have to call ahead to make sure they stock it! You could also perhaps consider the formula that I invented, which is based upon Extra Virgin Coconut Oil from the South Pacific. It is called Koru kp Oleum, and has worked extremely well for quite a few people on this forum. Cheers Annuu ![]() Last edited by Elsa Zoe; 10-15-2007 at 05:13 PM. |
