Post Interesting

Im just wondering but I was thinking that maybe Keratosis Pilaris could be linked to to much intake of dairy or fats? I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure stress hormones have something to do with it too because its always worse then. Well if anybody else some opinions or anything post it up! I have also been to the dermatologist a few times for this.

In my case I believe it is the opposite. I had put myself on a pretty strict diet (bodybuilding), but I had actually left out fat of any kind and I had used no dairy at all. after a few months I made some impressive gains muscle-wise but my skin started to become more dry (even though i drink a lot of water) and i started to notice KP on my upper arms. 6 weeks ago I realized that my diet was very unbalanced and started to intake flax oil for the essential fatty acids. I also added some skim milk plus to my diet every day for other nutritional properties. My KP started to go into remission after a little over 3 weeks using the flax oil, 2 tablespoons every day (1 in am 1 in pm). I continue to see the KP fade and my skin feels more hydrated and smooth.
I think KP can happen to different people for different reasons. I think my reason was inadequate nutrition and not intaking any essential fatty acids.

Thanks

We'll that sounds like it would help solve the problem too. I'm just going to keep doing a normal diet because I'm one of those health freaks so ....but thanks for your post that is interesting.

Hey..i'm a vegetarian and I still have a KP problem! I think it's just one of those stubborn genetic things. KP is when the cells don't shed themselves off properly and it builds up around the hair follicle. I think if anything, people with KP need more EFA's in their diet (essential fatty acids, flaxseed, evening primrose oil etc.).

I'm a vegetarian too and I agree with quidditch - it is genetic. But certainly, the condition can be worsened by things like a bad diet or stress. I guess what it comes down to is: it can't hurt to eat well!!
I also take flaxseed oil capsules. They haven't been a magic cure or anything, but they have improved the smoothness of my skin all over and my hair too.

It's interesting that diet is being discussed. My 3-year old daughter recently had her tonsils and adnoids removed. She had it pretty tough, and only drank juice for about a week. Her KP nearly cleared up. I started wondering if it was caused by something she was eating - since dairy and peanuts are considered allergens (and things she routinely eats), I was going to try eliminating one and then the other to see what happens. So, even though some of you don't eat dairy and still have KP, maybe it's some other food allergy. Maybe KP is how a food allergy manifests itself in some people. The medical community claims its hereditary - so are food allergies. Some people outgrow it - some people outgrow food allergies. Just taking a stab in the dark here. I truly believe there is a reason for it, and it's only a matter of time before it is discovered. Most likely by a concerned group such as this!

....

Dora I hope your 3 year old is feeling better now. I agree with you that there is a reason out there somewhere besides the common "over produce of keratin around hair follicles" i have heard that many times. We'll I used the Eucerin lotion today and wow...nothing totally amazing but it felt a little softer or smoother or something and its only my first day so i'll keep letting u know if its worth the money......
