Just trying to take a poll and see....
has anyone not seen their kp worsen/spread cause fo pregnancy. Does it happen to everyone, or is this too genetic? Thank you so much for the info. Daze |

I have definitely noticed that my kp got worse. During and after pregnancy. It has been 4 years since my last child and I have still not recovered. It use to be on my lower legs only, but during pregnancy it spread to my thighs. I admit up until this point I have not really worked hard on it so I am hopeful if I try some of the products and I committ to using them as I should I will see a great improvement.

Mine is at least 10-fold worse since my last child was born almost 5 years ago.

my sister's improved during pregnancy
here is an excerpt from my sister's e-mail:
Regarding my bumps. Yes, I've had red, ugly bumps on my upper legs and arms forever. It sometimes gets better in the summer (I guess it gets worse from the heat), but not always. And yes, it totally cleared up when I was pregnant (and so far hasn't come back!!) Hope that offers enough incentive... |

I have a5 month old son and my KP got much, much worse after he was born. It has spread to my thighs and calves (I have never had KP there before). It also got much morse on my arms and forearms. By using Derma Doc KP DUty my arms have improved greatly but it is too expensive to use on my legs. Pregnancy sure does seem to play a role for many KP sufferers

I have had KP since I was 9-10 years old and now am almost 30. I just had my first (biological) daughter and my KP got worse during pregnancy and has gotten even worse since the birth of my baby in February. It has spread from just my upper arms to almost my entire arms and itches like crazy on my forearms. I am using a loofah and the Eucerin lotion and it does seem to be getting better this last week. I am going to try the pumice sponge to see if it will work better than the loofah. Does anyone have another lotion that might not be as greasy as the Eucerin?

My KP was 2 times worse with my first pregnancy, and 3 times worse with the second baby.

Mine seemed to show up on my forearms after my first baby 6 years ago, give or take. I don't really remember an exact point that it started. I knew I had it on the back of my arms before that, but since I never look there it never really bothered me. If I had to try and pinpoint something, I'd say it got a littl eworse after baby #2 (2 years ago).

But my doctor before told me that KP dissappear after giving birth. Good that i didn't marry and had baby, i would really be dissapointed if i did and still have KP.

I had about a dime size patch on one arm prior to pregnancy. It had been there for years and never bothered me, I just wondered what it was. Once pregnant, it blew up like wildfire, but only on the back of my arms. Here I am 7 years later and it isn't any better!!!! I'm sure when I get pregnant again I'll be covered!

I did buy a pumice stone (the store didn't have a pumice sponge) Monday of this week and have used it for the last 3 days. Believe it or not, I am actually seeing results. I am using it in the shower and then using the Eucerin lotion when I get out and my arms are feeling smoother. The red dots are still there but they are not near as rough as they were. Hopefully it will continue to get better.

This is my first post to the forum so it's kind of long. I have had KP from when I was 10 or so (at least that's when I started noticing it, never knew what it was until a few years ago). I had a baby boy about a year ago and my KP, which was always my thighs and upper arms, moved to include my forearms, my upper back and my torso. I'm turning 30 this year so I don't believe the stuff they say about it going away with age.
My brother saw a derm. a few years ago and he recommended AmLactin but that just made my skin extra red and painful. That pretty much tells me that the whole AHA and SA type products aren't really going to help me. I have never seen a derm. because I don't think they really know what's going on. KP is just what they call the appearance of the pores clogged with keratin plugs. I think KP is a symptom of something else which is why so many different treatments are suggested and what works for some doesn't work for others. I usually use an exfoliating towel but the scrubbing leaves my skin really red. Exfoliating gives me constant reddened skin such that, in summer, everyone thinks I have a sunburn. When I do not exfoliate, however, the KP plugs get really large so I choose to exfoliate, have red skin, and have mostly smaller plugs. My KP looks like most of the pictures of pale but reddened skin and white bumps. I would not call it mild and was very self conscious as a teen. I guess I still am self conscious but as I get older I have other things to deal with. I read the Demodex mites theory on this site, AND on the web, and I think there could definitely be a connection. Demodex mites cause problems in animals, why not in humans? I learned about them in college as well (entomology minor) and I wondered, way back then, if they could cause skin problems despite being taught that they were non-harmful parasites to humans. I know that pregnancy can decrease the strength of a woman's immune system; immunosuppression can then lead to Demodex spreading. The fact is that many parasites are not well-understood. Scientists don't fully understand why our immune systems don't attack parasites and/or how parasites evade our immune response. The parasites that are well-understood are the ones that kill mass amounts of people and are major human health concerns. Anyway, so despite the lack of research to substantiate the Demodex theory, I'm willing to spend a bit of money to test out how the products work for MY KP. My internet research lead me to trying some of the FaceDoctor complextion soap. I also read about the benefits of eucalyptus oil so here's the regimine I currently follow. Wash and exfoliate upper left arm with FD soap, when foamy leave on upper arm for about one minute. Do same on upper right arm but with the soap I always use, Dove white bar. After shower, apply Jojoba oil mixed with essential eucalyptus oil to both arms. Apply the oil mixture a second time at night before bed. I've only been doing this a week (and I haven't been treating my thighs any differently than I normally do so they are functioning as an experimental control). Anyway, my left upper arm has gotten somewhat softer, but it might be my own bias. I also like the way the eucalyptus oil smells. Jojoba oil, alone, is plain and oily but adding an essential oil makes it very pleasant so I enjoy applying it. I know enough about myself to know that if I don't like doing something I won't do it. I planned to try this experiment a month before asking my husband if he noticed a difference (he doesn't really know what I'm doing). I bought three bars of FD soap so I plan to run this experiment a while. If I DO notice a difference, I am going to go ahead and try the Chinese Zhongzhou Ointment. In short, KP got worse with pregnancy. Just wanted to share how I've decided to handle the increased KP. |

hey rachel
Hey there rachel,
I'm really seriosuly considering this votamin theory thing. i mean, it definately has to do with a vitamin a deficiency...and probably some other defiencies and problems with breakdown that i haven't hot yet, but you;re vitamin deficient when you're pregnant and after........that would make sense as to why the kp spreads the way it does...cause our bodies our vita a deficient and out bodies are genetically prone to kp under vita a deficient conditions. gotta get some feedback form people though vita a as beta-carotene is ok during pregnancy but the other forms of vita a are dangerous to take if you're pregnant...... daze |
