My KP went away entirely with both of my pregnancies. It was back with in the first year after giving birth. With my first pregnancy I thought it had gone away because I was using Cocoa Butter lotion all over my lower body religiously. After my son was born, I continued using the cocoa butter lotion and the bumps were back within the first year after he was born. With my second pregnancy I didn't use cocoa butter or lotion at all and the bumps still went away. My daughter is 11 months old now and the bumps have been back for months. I have KP on my arms and legs. Since the birth of my daughter (2nd baby) my condition has become worse & has spread to the lower part of my arms. It was really nice to have soft smooth skin for a little while. But it was almost a tease because now I know how smooth my skin can feel. I did take prenatal vitamins with both pregnancies but I do not think that is what made the bumps go away. I think hormones cause the problem. All I know for sure is I hate KP.

I'm really starting to believe that when KP gets worse after pregnancy it's because our bodies are full of toxins, hormones, and other 'junk' left over from being pregnant, along with candida overgrowth. Because of this our bodies are also having trouble utilizing minerals and nutrients. Refined sugar is really bad for our skin no matter what our histories are and it gets in the way of absorption of some minerals. Making a baby is really hard on our bodies. Babies take a lot of minerals and nutrients from our bodies in order to grow. When we're pregnant, our immune system is naturally supressed so our bodies don't reject the baby - kind of like an organ transplant. I wonder what effect that has on other systems in our bodies.

Hi. I am new to these forums. I just had my second baby, and am miserable with KP. I had a very light case of it all my life, but it spread down my forearms when I had my first child. Now, after my second was born, it exploded all over my arms a few weeks postpartum. It's so hard being fat AND covered in bumps. I am breastfeeding, but did order all the products that a poster called "Turquoise" outlined in a post elsewhere.
I am disgusted at the lack of info my doctors, especially my OB, have about this topic. Postpartum KP is a real issue. I hope my adding this post helps other women out there looking for answers just I have done. ![]() |

Hello again! I read on another thread that Head and Shoulders may help so I tried it out. I use regular gereric dandruf shampoo on a loofah and I scrub my legs and arms. I did this for over a month and the KP disapeared completely. I am so thrilled about this. I did stop for a week while on vacation & the KP returned, although not as bad. I have since started using the Head & Shoulders with a loofa it again and it is already going away again. I hope this helps you too!!

Never had KP until the birth of my 1st child
I have never had skin problems until I had my first child. Now I have 3 and it has only gotten worse. I really feel this disorder is linked to hormones, and should be studies on that in a much deeper level. This may lead to a cure for this horrible, embarassing disorder.
I have tried a lot to get rid of the bumps and redness (which is mainly what mine is) nothing has helped. I also tend to pick. I have created years worth of scars. I really hate this!!! ![]() |

Hi. This is my first post. I recently gave birth to my third child on St. Patty's Day. I've had mild kp since I was a preteen, bothered me, but wasn't bad. Now, after my third child, it has has spread all over my arms and legs. Hate it! Someone had mentioned earlier that the hair on their legs was so soft during pregnancy, mine almost seemed like it wasn't even growing, legs and armpits. Loved that! That all changed less than a week after my baby was born. I'm still nursing, for whatever difference that makes.
Now, I have an 11 year old daughter and she has recently developed on her arms much worse than I had it at her age. I can deal with it myself, but I really worry about her. So, I certainly look forward to learning something from everyone here. It really can be embarassing and it would be great to find that 'miracle cure' so that no other young girls have to deal with this! |

Re: for those who've been pregnant
I didn't really notice a difference after my first, but after my second I noticed that my arms actually got better (at least the bump part of it, still a little red under the skin). They feel smoother than I ever remember. My legs, on the other hand, have exploded with KP! My baby is 8 months old, and it didn't really get bad until the last couple months. It used to be on my thighs and a little around my knees, but now it's up and down both of my legs- red, bumpy, and GROSS!!! Good thing capris are still in style
![]() Will it get better as she gets older, or am I stuck with this now?! GRRRRR..... ![]() JLast edited by Elsa Zoe; 09-01-2007 at 08:33 PM. Reason: mom2my2kids:"Don't know why there's a wink-face next to the subject line!". Already removed. |

Re: for those who've been pregnant
Shortly after my last child was born the KP on my thighs got really bad.
I contributed it to the hormonal change after giving birth. It took a while for it to improve. |

Re: for those who've been pregnant
my kp has got 10 times if not more worse since i delivered my 2nd child 6 months ago. I've always had it on my upper arms, it's got worse with age (i'm now 34) ut never had it anwhere else. Since having my daughter it's spread to my forearm and all over my upper thigh and moving now down over my knee and onto my bottom. I'm breastfeeding and did wonder if it was down to vitamin deficiency. I've only just found this site so am sifting my way through info as i've always just coped with it, it's quite bad now so i'd love to at least reduce it.

Re: for those who've been pregnant
Hi
My son is 10 months old now and I'm still breastfeeding him. I have noticed that my KP has improved a lot since I was pregnant. I've only just found this forum and I'm so excited that I can talk to other people with KP. I've never met anybody else that had it before. I did some research on vitamins and the possible links with KP, I'll have to find it and post it here in case anyone is interested. ![]() Well, I'm sure half of you guys will already have read these links but on the off chance that they may be useful to someone I'll post them anyway: http://www.drgreene.org/body.cfm?id=21&action=detail&ref=84 http://www.answers.com/topic/keratosis-pilaris-2 http://www.epinions.com/content_970694788 http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A1075583 I keep hearing that Vitamin A is good for KP but as Daisy said already, you should never take vitamin A supplements while pregnant. Re: for those who've been pregnant
It has been a while since I have posted on here, so I like to check in every now & then to see what is going on.
It is so weird to me how pregnancy effects kp. I have had it since I was a teen, but not bad; Just the bumps & redness on my upper arms. When I got older, it seemed to spread to my forearms a little, but still nothing too bad. After my first baby, it spread to my chest & face. After my second ... oh, my word! While I was pregnant, my back & chest was covered, my arms got worse, not to mention my back side. Then it was on my thighs...awful! It had never been so bad. My calfs, hand, stomach & feet were the only areas that were spared. Being a Cosmetologist/Instructor, trying to take care of other people's skin & teach students how to as well, I was ashamed to not be able to control my own skin problem. When it is on your face, it can look like acne...not good. Anyway, mine is 'under control' now, but I wanted to share my kp experience, too, since, like so many others, pregnancy seemed to make it so much worse. ![]() |
