Hi everyone, new here. I'm 26 & I've had KP since I was 5 on my arms & legs. It got worse during puberty, started getting it on my bottom. Then, right after I had my 1st son (within days!) it got worse. It covered my thighs from the knees on up to my hips. During my second pregnancy it spread up my arms to my shoulder blades and up my hips to my sides. Now I feel like I'm covered!! I feel so ulgy now. I can't wear shorts or sleevless shirts much less a bathing suit!
During my teens I found that tanning helped ALOT! Not an option right now due to available funds. I've used srubs and washes w/ salicylic acid & glycolic acid, lotions with lactic acid & urea. Scrubs help the most. My 2 year old has KP on his arms & legs and his Ped has recommended Bezoyl peroxide 5% wash. So, I got the 10% for my self. I'm also going to pair it with St. Ives Medicated scrub with 2% salicylic & Clean and Clear's astringent with 2% salicylic acid, and moisturize with Vaseline Intensive Care Firming & Radiance Age-Defying Lotion (it has lactic acid, vitamin a & urea). I hope I can get some good results. |

Yes!!
That is whyI sought out this site, and now I'm afraid I am seeing the bumps on my 8 month old girl.
I have always wished I had soft smooth pretty skin. I have been ashamed, and embarrsed about this my whole life and now it's spreading. What works?????? |

Not too much is working for me right now. I want to start tanning again. That helps sooo much! St. Ives medicated scrub works good to soften the skin. I've haven't really seen any difference since I started using the 10% Bezoyl peroxide wash, But I'll give it some more time. The Vaseline Intensive Care Firming & Radiance Age-Defying Lotion (it has lactic acid, vitamin a & urea) works ok. I know I'm not going to get my sjkin very soft right now since its cold. It's always worse in the winter.
As for my son, no real change since I started the wash on him either. |

Yes, my KP is worse after I became pregnant over ten years ago. My KP has never improved to my pre-pregnancy KP stage.

hello...the bumps under my forearms disappear during pregnancy..and came bk worse after this 2nd pregnancy. I itch terribly and my skin looks terrible. going to see the derm about it worse. I also thought maybe I should keep taking my prenatal vitamins to see if that helps, since I dont suffer with this when I am preggars.

Hi!
I'm new here. I wanted to add that before I had my first child 4 yrs ago, I had a lil KP on my tummy and have always had a bit on my butt and at the base of my cheeks where they meet my thighs. Anyway, once I got pregnant, my KP on my tummy disapeared and never returned...knock on wood. But the rest of my kp remained the same. My tummy is the ONLY thing that got super huge besides my breasts and maybe the skin stretching had something to do with it. maybe I should try and bulk up my butt...lol ![]() |

Hi! My KP went from unnoticeable to VERY noticeable after I had my child. It flared up big time during my pregancy, and I am still trying to combat it trying everything I can.

Follow-up
I'd like to follow-up w/everyone regarding my KP and my pregnancy. It did get worse after my son was born but he just turned 2 and my KP has, for the most part, returned to it's original sites: upper arms. I did breastfeed for one year.
I have found that not washing my arms w/anything (no soap, no exfoliating, just water) and moisturizing w/EVCO is working well for me. |

I seem to be out of step with everyone else. My KP didn't get worse with pregnancies and has got slowly better with age. Weird .... I wonder if things like weight gain, breastfeeding, age of pregnancy have some part to play in all of this.
I didn't have my first child until 30, fully breast fed both babies until they were 12 months, and didn't gain weight (except for baby weight that is while pregnant) Just wondering why some women are getting worse KP with pregnancy and age....and others aren't.... must be some common factors - what I don't know though. |

Hi Everyone
I had my first child 12 years ago. Until then, I had a patch of KP on my upper arms which would sometimes turn bright red and at other times disappear. I developed pre-eclampsia during my pregnancy, and thought that when my blood pressure settled down, my skin condition would. Wrong! The kp spread to my thighs and all over my back and upper arms. My arms are bright red/purple most of the time and people always ask what is wrong if I wear sleeveless clothes. My sister saw my back and said it looks like a really bad case of measles. During my second pregnancy 10 years ago it got even worse and has not improved the slightest in all these years. I have a chemical peels, laser and used every cream imaginable. If anyone has any suggestions I will try them all, I am desperate. I saw a dermatologist and after waiting 2 hours to see him he told me in less than five minutes to just put up with it. Can anyone suggest anything that might help. ![]() |

My KP almost went away 100% while I was pregnant! It stayed almost clear the first year...then when I stopped breast feeding it started comming back again...so here I am with a one year old...a grown woman...and I'm still waiting for that day the doctor told me about "It will go away when you get older..." I just want to be able to take my baby seimming and to the park and all I can think about are these nasty bumps on my arms...
After reading the post about weight I must add: When I became pregnant I was under weight (about 85 lb...I would kill for hat now lol) but I only gained 30 while pregnant because I got that damn e coli from spinach...I lost the weight quickly afterwards too...I'm at 100 lbs now. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. ALSO I was on fluids for about 2 weeks (FROM AN IV) and it was remarkable what that did for my skin! I thought for sure my KP days were over...but sadly not yet ![]() |

maybe the vitamin D helped KP? This is the first time I'd heard of demodex mites. eeewww! but I'm really curious. My KP has been worse after pregnancy including 2 years of breastfeeding and is not getting better with age. I also had some spot eczema on my calves and arms and stomach in pregnancy but that almost never pops up any more. My KP was always on my arms and thighs but after childbirth spread to my stomach a bit, to my calves certainly and a little more on my butt. It seems that for me, between premenopausal hormone changes and dry climate I'm having a harder time controlling my KP. The oil pulling is helping my skin tone in general. My skin is looking younger but I've only been oil pulling for about 4 weeks and it's not clearing my KP so far. It is affecting changes in me though so I think it remains to be seen whether it helps more. I notice that dark leafy greens help me with a lot of health related issues. they're high in vit a and carotenes and omega fatty acids. So I try to whip up a batch of chard or kale a couple times a week. i definitely have less itching and burning. I have not tried BC pills in years. overall, they have not been good for me - caucasian, moderate to bad KP, fair skin with lots of splotchy redness ad freckles. BC pills usually giive me headaches and nausea. though when I was 19 or 20 they were ok for me for a few years and helped clear up my acne then. sigh... it's like I learn how to deal with my hhormones in one state and then the state of my hormones changes! now i'm premenopausal and in a few years they'll change again when I'm menopausal and they'll affect everything including my skin and KP!!!! argh! |

Pre-pregnancy my kp was only on my upper arms and a little on the top of my thighs and my butt - mostly red spots but some bumps on my arms. While I was pregnant it started spreading to include my belly. Post-partum I now have it all over my body - fore arms, upper arms, back of my shoulders, thighs, lower legs, belly, sides of my torso, and butt. It got really bumpy everywhere shortly after the birth.
My daughter turned one this month. I started taking pre-natal vitamins before becoming pregnant and I still take them. I have dry skin but it was even more dry during my pregnancy. I've heard it can take up to 2 years post-partum for your body to completely recover nutritionally from pregnancy. I don't remember how old I was when I first noticed I had kp but I'm thinking 12 or so. It didn't really bother me until this past year when it got so much worse. Having it on my arms wasn't such a big deal because I'm covered in freckles in the summer anyway. I was pregnant at 30 and in the winter. I'm thinking a combination of hormones, nutrition, and dry winter climate helped my kp to worsen. For the past two weeks I've been using this product http://www.thehive.co.nz/httpwwwkoruconz/5.html twice a day on my arms and the skin is already much smoother. I still have lots of red spots but I'm hoping continued use will help the spots too. I'm in a wedding at the end of June and I just want my arms to look half decent for the photos. Julie. Some improvement in only 2 weeks
Nearly 2 weeks ago after I did a vega test I changed my eating habits and started taking supplements.
Right away I noticed I had more energy and less brain fog. In 2 weeks I've lost 3lbs - and I know I'm getting enough calories in a day - I'm near the end of training for a 10km race so calories are important. But yesterday and today I notice that the redness of my spots is much less. Even my husband commented that it's looking better. I didn't have a lot of bumps before and the bumps didn't bother me much anyway because you couldn't really see them, but the red spots were really bad. I have spots all over my body - arms, shoulders, legs, stomach, sides, butt. Most people who I've pointed it out too just think it's a sunburn - that's how bad the red spots on my arms are. I've had a few meals where wheat, sugar, corn, and cow milk cheese couldn't be avoided but for the most part I've been doing really well. I think having a baby makes KP worse because the baby steals all the nutrients from your body. |
