Yes high doses of vitamin A is dangerous and i think anyone who is wanting to correct their deficiency should be taking beta carotene supplements over vitamin A.
Yeah i dont really think there is a hormonal link, i think it more so that mothers are just prone to deficiency of minerals and vitamins in general when pregnant and after birth because their diet needs to supply sufficient vitamins and minerals for both the mother and child where most of the nutrition will go to the baby first for growth and development.

I was a health Nazi when I was preganant. I began taking vitamins (prenatal) then and continue to take a multivitamin now. My KP is worse than ever. The only thing that ever makes it clear up is sun-exposure. Not sure what that says about vitamin definciencies.

I totally I agree with all of you. My KP worsen after giving birth to my two kids. When I had this, it's tolerable and I can still wear short sleeves....but now it's all over my arms and thigh. I hate this thing. I'm so desperate to find a treatment. Please help!

KP the same before and after pregnancy

I have to say that my KP being as bad as it is, did not change for the better or worse during my pregnancy or afterwards.

Hi everyone. This is my first post.

I have a 6 month old and i noticed during my pregnancy my kp cleared up a lot. Unfortunently, since i have stopped breastfeeding, it has come back with a vengence. It doesn't help that I just moved to the Texas coast either as heat makes it worse. I have never seeked support for my kp. It's nice to know you are all out there!

I have had kp since I was 5. When I got pregnant less than a year ago my skin had never been as silky and beautiful. Even the hair on my legs was soft and barely noticeable. But, as soon as I had my son at 4:50 in the morning that evening I could already feel the roughness on my legs, the spikey hair was back and the kp came back with a vengence in less than a week. My kp was completely gone while pregnant and now it is worse than ever. It has been 3 and a half months since I had my baby, the kp is still bad. I took prenatal vitamin when pregnant and still taking it now. I am also breastfeeding. So, I don't know if this will help or not. It seems it is different for all of us.

Lightbulb I thought I wouldn't get KP like my sister...UNTIL

I never even had KP until I became pregnant 4 yrs ago... My dr. said it would probably clear up on its own after I stopped nursing. Well, she was 11 months old when I stopped, so that wasn't true. What do they know anyway? I've been using Prolief for my hormones, though, instead of the b/c pills my OB/GYN gave me (they made me monsterous!! ARGH!) and I'm really feeling better. I think it saved my marriage...

My KP got much better with pregnancy, especially my second. But just weeks after my son's birth, the KP was worse than ever and my forearms are now covered in the scrathy bumps. I changed nothing in the way of diet or vitamins because I was taking them pre- and post-pregnancy and my skin routine was the same too.

My Dermatologist told me that KP can, and often does, get worse or first appear after pregnancy/birth. Mine got worse while I was pregnant & then got even more worse & spread afterwards. I am so glad that I had something to take people's attention away from my stretch marks !

I completely agree with krystalite: "When I got pregnant less than a year ago my skin had never been as silky and beautiful. Even the hair on my legs was soft and barely noticeable."
It was so great.
Then it flared up bad afterwards, but not so quickly. It was about 2-3 weeks after the birth, my skin was crusty and itchy.
Now it's not as bad as that, but slightly worse than before I had my baby. I would rate it as when I was a teenager again...how long does it take to improve? it's been a year

My KP is much worse now that I've had my baby. It's so frustrating and nothing seems to help. It was really bad on my thighs right after giving birth and that has actually gotten better, but my arms are terrible. They itch now too! They never itched before and I've had this as long as I can remember. I was thinking this had something to do with being less hydrated during and after pregnancy (due to growing a baby and then nursing), but it sounds like women have had this for years after they birth of their children. What a bummer.

My KP cleared up while I was pregnant but came back with a vengeance as soon as I gave birth. I had red angry bumps all over my arms, butt and thighs as soon as my baby left my body.

My kp did not noticable change after first baby but has got worse in the 12 weeks since having my second baby. Still nursing and taking pregnacare vitamins as did last time so just sods law I guess. Some women's hair changes while they are pregnant goes from curly to straight or vice versa. And can stay that way perminantly so guess skin texture changes could work the same way, perminant for some not for others. I had hoped to have that one pregnancy side effect as i have always wanted curly hair, but not to be just got stretch marks instead .
