Wink KP and facial hair

Does anyone else have a problem with facial hair? I have 2 patches under my chin that are driving me crazy!!! Sometimes the hair gets ingrown and looks like I have acne.

My mother had the same problem area - but electrolysis took care of it.

I'm 28 and don't want to become one of those old women with a beard!!!

Blessings!

me too!

I have 10-20 dark heavy hairs that grow right beneath my chin and a bit higher along the "jawline" edge of the chin. When I tweeze them they very often grow in and can become cystic and look as though I have acne. Then the spot hyperpigments and I'm left with it for weeks or even months. I also have a few on my upper lip. I've had then for about 10 years. A few months ago I started having the area treated with a laser and the hair growth has slowed and gotten finer. However, the hardest place for lasers to get rid of hair is the lip/chin area. I also have a home electrolysis kit. One with a needle probe. My husband helps me with it because it is very difficult to work on mirror image areas yourself. It is VERY effective but it's also tedious. It takes a good bit of time and patience and on the lip area it can be quite painful.

I more than empathize.. *smile* -Laura

I don't think the keratosis pilaris and facial hair are linked together, but I also deal with issues with facial hair, upper lip hair, etc...and of course, I'm a brunette so it grows in dark...it's a pain in the butt--ugh! I've waxed and used over the counter hair removal although my skin is sensitive so I have to be careful. I just blame my Italian roots for my hairiness ha!

I have a friend who gets electrolysis done--I've heard it really works!

I know that facial hair and KP are unrelated - I just wanted to know if anyone's facial hair made their KP more of a problem.

I have KP and facial hair

I also have the same problem. I've had semi-successful Laser Hair Removal but the problem is still there.

Yeah, I have hair and KP. In another post today about hormones, I refererred to them as my two "curses".

Uh, you might want to rethink that "they are not related" stance.

I was thinking about preparing an entire post about it because people here don’t seem too aware of it and I think that they really need to know. More life-threatening disorders like type II diabetes & PCOS can manifest themselves in the skin's appearance and by androgynous characteristics such as hirsutism, or excess hair in females.

What are the most effective treatments for hirustism? I think I would save literally hours of time in a week if something helped to reduce all the shaving and plucking I have to do. I actually have a real fear of ending up on a deserted island and being rescued a few months later and being all over the news pictured as a wild hairy woman!

I have tried several things, including waxing which I found to be miserably painful, and tedious since I have such so much hair, and it resulted in tons of ingrowns when the hair started growing back. It sucks and I've been dealing with it for years and am sick of it but keep at it because a female having facial hair is an unforgiveable thing in this society and people can be brutal about it if they see it.

I highly suggest this article about hair removal. It's very informative.

9 years old...

I read over the article you linked us to. I just want to point out that it was written over 9 years ago and that the company they mention in the "Laser" section no longer even makes hair-removal devices. Things have come a long way since then.
