I know this has been touched on before but I just wanted to know how many of you feel their kp is related to hormone imbalances? That's men and women.
I have had kp all my life (I'm 28). I find that it flares up really badly before a period and gets a little better afterwards. My kp is all over, including face. I have just gotten some progesterone cream which I have heard is supposed to work for phrynoderma which is hyperkeratosis (if anyone knows the difference between this and kp please feel free to enlighten me). I only started using it yesterday and already it has calmed a really bad flare up though it says it can take a few weeks to work properly. I am very sceptical as you can imagine but I am hopeful all the same. Maybe it was just the moisturising properties that helped. Only time will tell. I am taking the progesterone cream (which by the way is completely safe and plant based) for other health reasons but am curious about what effect it could have on my kp. If anyone else has tried it I'd like to know. Does any one have bad problems with PMS, menopause, aches and pains, fatigue which you think are to do with a hormone imbalance? I know there was a lady talking a while ago about having estrogen dominance. The progesterone is a pre-cursor if you like to the other hormones - it helps make the other hormones and so if you are not making enough of certain ones you will have problems. This would seem to tie in with those who have mentioned that their kp gets better when pregnant. I'm not saying this is the answer, I just thought someone may find this interesting enough to find out more. Likewise if you've had a negative experience I'd like to hear from you too. I will be sure to let you know if this has more results. |

Hi! I have noticed that too, during many cycles that my KP, esp on my legs, flares up pretty bad just before my period, esp the redness.

Hyperkeratosis, is that dermatitis? I'm not sure. I also seem to get really inflamed and sometimes itchy arms and thighs near a period. It is said that more woman have keratosis pilaris than men..i wonder if it is hormonal too?

I'm just started using a progesterone cream too!
My KP got out of control around my 7th month of pregnancy and has stayed that way since ( my doughter is 6mos now). I also just haven't felt good..I've been super fatigued and irritable. My doctor tested me for hyothyroidism and anemia both were negative. So I went to hormone class and learne about estrogen dominance too. I just a Progesterone cream called Prolief. I've only been using it for about a week so I'm not sure if it's working yet. But I'm really hoping it helps the KP which I'm convinced is tied to hormones. Which cream are you using? |

Hi Dawn
I'm using Natpro. I have been using it for over a month and my kp is better but I am still unsure why. I have been taking more cod-liver oil and evening primrose which I feel are helping so it could be a combination of things but who cares, it's much better than it was last year! I looked like I had acne on my arms it was so bad. My skin is much smoother to the touch but the bumps are still there though in some small patches they are almost disappeared which is encouraging especially since I've had it all over since I was a baby and it has never before improved. I also have a sugar-free diet and don't eat any junk food which must help. Let me know if you see any improvements yourself. All the best! |

I have had hormone imbalances since I was a teenager. I've had to deal with super irregular periods and excessive hair growth due to androgens. I consider my crazy hormones and KP my two "curses" that I have to stay on top of. Thankfully, taking female herbs and mastering the arts of hair removal (and diligently keeping up with it) have made my first curse not noticeable to anyone anymore. I'm still looking for ways to minimize the appearance of my KP. Otherwise I am pretty happy with my overall appearance and health. As far as if the two are related, I have no idea. I'm interested to see what everyone here thinks.

I think the challenge is, learning what can help you personally, which is a pain in the arse because no-one has the patience for trial and error methods! But it seems the only way. It would be nice if we could formulate some sort of list of symptoms, conditions and treatments, with member statistics and info. Then you could cut down on the trial and error by finding treatments that have worked with others in the same position. |

i haven't visited in a while, but I have been using prolief for about 4 months now, and have completely cleared the kp on the backs of my arms and my legs. I had tried on many ocassions to start dialog about the prolief and how it was clearing my kp, but i think there is just too much skepticism because people have tried so many things. I am so glad it is working for others. I am completely kp free now and I have eliminated my pms symptoms. Love prolief!!!

That's great that the prolief has worked so well for you. Could you provide some more details about it? Like where can you buy it, about how much is it, how much and how often do you apply it, etc?

I used it daily for the treatment of kp - the instructions are different for hormone balance. What I do not understand for sure, is if I get such good results because I use it for both hormone balance and I put it directly on kp. I have heard other women say it didn't work for kp but I do not think they were using for hormone balance as well. The application for hormone balance is on the soft tissues of your skin, like chest or inner arms. You do it beginning on day 12 of your cycle and follow through till your start your period. For KP I put it directly on the kp on my arms and legs every day (once). If there is a conncection between hormones and kp, then I think it would be wise to use the progesterone cream for hormone balance. I wish I knew if my success is due to the balancing effect of the progesterone cream. What I do know is other women have not reported the same success as me when using it simply to treat kp. It is safe natural and plant based. They don't recommend it for breast cancer patients or people with high blood pressure. I use Arbonne's which is about $30 for a month supply. It will last longer once you don't need so much for the kp. You can go on their website and find a consultant near you. www.arbonne.com I do not have to put it on my kp everyday now that it is gone. I only do it like two or three times a week just to make sure it stays gone. They have two one called prolief for pregnant or nursing patients. Or phyto prolief which would be safe otherwise. I have completely eliminated my pms symptoms and have noticed a difference in my daily mood since I started prolief. I have 4 children and I am still nursing so I know my hormones were out of control.
