2005 is the year I treat my Keratosis Pilaris once and for all!
Hello! I decide to fork over the $5 and now consider that money spent towards a solution, finally, to my keratosis pilaris.
I'm in my early 30s and I've found that my skin condition has only gotten worse as I've gotten older. Initially, it was something I would only notice sporadically and it was isolated to my upper arm area. As time has passed, I noticed the blotchy, red patches and the hard pustules pretty much year round and the condition has now appeared on my thighs just above my knees. As many others here have mentioned, I never knew this problem had an actual name nor did I realize how many people suffered with it. It was only when I was preparing for my wedding and went to see a dermatologist about my arms that I discovered what it was. Unfortunately, her solution was microdermabrasion for my arms - which, at about $100 a session, I couldn't swing it. So, here I am, again, trying to finally rid myself of this stuff! I think the reason why I'm back on the hunt is because recently, someone pointed it out again by asking me "how did you get a sunburn on your arms in the winter?". I flippantly said "oh, that? that's my 'skin disease'" and she gave me this look like I said I had leprosy! I try to be light and breezy about it but in reality, it bugs me to no end! I want to wear tank tops...yet, I'm even starting to not like to wear even short sleeved shirts! And I now have a little one - one year - who appears to have Keratosis Pilaris on his face. I'm religious about applying Aquaphor on his cheeks every night before bed but I curse the fact that he inherited this from me! So, here I am with a regimen that now includes an exfoliation treatment every morning in the shower with a buff puff on my arms and thighs. Frankly, this alone has signficantly reduced the bumps (except for the very back of my upper arms which appear to be the most stubborn). Next is a glycolic acid treatment similar to an at home chemical peel. But, no matter what I seem to use, the redness/rash appearance of my arms does not seem to diminish. Has anybody found anything that helps clear up the redness?!? The bumps, it appears, I somewhat have under control, but the redness hasn't lessened one bit! ![]() |
