Hi Everyone:
FINALLY! People who can sympathize. It feels really reassuring to meet so many people who are dedicated to improving their condition and helping others with Keratosis Pilaris. After the derms told me that there's really nothing I could do for this and there's no cure or "effective treatment," I was a mess. No one in my family has Keratosis Pilaris and I've felt so alone and misunderstood. I'm 22 and I've had Keratosis Pilaris more or less for the past 4-5 years...i think. I was also on accutane. I already had Keratosis Pilaris on my upper arms and legs, but I also think that the accutance could have caused it to flare-up and spread to my shoulders and back, but there's no confirmation of this, right? I do laser hair removal on my arms and legs. Ths bumps and dots were really bright and distinst. Now, after 4 laser session and continuing, the bumps and spots on my legs have weakened. It's also helped to flatten the bumps on my thigs. Laser hair removal is pretty effective in buring the top layer of the skin. But you gotta be patient and persistent. The areas where the hair follicles are completely burned and the hair doesn't grow back anymore, those are nice and clear and soft. I think that it's all about the ingrown hairs. Even if you don't see it, there are hairs in the bumps and dots that are plugging it up. KIM, you mentioned your dots look like a freckle color. That's how it is on my lower legs. I don't know if steroid creams or anything will work. Should I try oxy for the brownish/reddish dots. I will try the sulfur soap for the bumps but what's good for the red/brown dots and pigmentation. Also, since I do laser, my skin is extra sensitive for a while. How long should I wait till I start the sulfur soap and start scrubbing?? Also, I have this kind of hyperpigmentation on my back. It's soft, thank God, but there are dark brown blothy spots and dots all over...it kindda looks like blackheads all over, but they're not. I think this is also Keratosis Pilaris. DOES ANYONE HAVE THIS HYPERPIGMENTATION AND IF SO WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND. I havn't tried many things yet but I'll keep you all posted. I have all my fingers and toes crossed!!!! For anyone thinking of doing laser hair removal, I recommend it, but you have to be patient and stick with it. If it improves your skin then you've knocked down two birds with one stone....no more shaving!! ALSO.....STEAM ROOM IS REALLY GOOD. go to the steam room once in while and stay in there for as long as you can. After you';ve soaked in the moisture, take a good loofah or buff-puff in there (where can I get this buff-puff??) and start exfoliating in the steam room. The steam opens up your pores and moisturizes your skin. Try something like the sulfur soap while in the steam room. Tell me how it goes if anyone tries this. THANK YOU AGAIN. It's a pleasure to meet you all!!! Daze Last edited by daisy; 01-11-2005 at 02:58 AM. |

I have been thinking about laser hair removal and I was just wondering if it helped significantly with your arms. Also I was wondering how many treatments it takes to have some affect and how long between treatments. Any details you can provide would be great. Thanks

Hi:
I have been doing laser for about a year now. I think you should do it to lessen the hair and remove the hair first before anything else. For my legs.....it has improved the bumps there significantly and although there's still red/brwon dots, the texture is pretty smooth. It has also ligthen the red spots/dots pretty well. As for my arms, it hasn't done very much, maybe a little. Since my main objective was to remove the hair....laser hair removal has been quite beneficial for me. I think you should try one treatment and take it form there. But allow two to three treatments before you see your kp improve. THE GOOD THING....as far as my results are concerned, knock on wood.....the kp lessens or dies out permanently...as opposed to other treatments where you have to do it always cause kp comes back.
