Men are funny!

I just wanted to share something with other women who have KP...
I have been with my boyfriend for three years now, and I had never brought up the KP subject so far, because I am kind of ashamed I think...
I do go around our flat in tank tops because I am aware that I has seen me naked many times anyway, so he knows how my arms look like, and he has never told me anything. I thought he was just being polite! He also encourages me to buy short sleeves or sleeveless Tshirts but I always manage to find a good reason not to (the long sleeve ones always look better! ).

The other day, I was looking for new products on internet for my KP, and he asked me what I was doing, and I decided to tell him what I was looking for. When I told him about "the redness behin my arms (a nice way to put it...), he didn't understand at first what I was talking about! Then he said, oh yeah sometimes it's a bit red after a bath... But he couldn't belive that was a problem for me, and that it influenced my choice of clothes!

My KP is pretty obvious to me, and I would never dream of wearing short sleeves but now I am wondering if I don't focuss on it too much! He is the one who probably saw my arms the most and hasn't noticed anything! He asked me if many people had it, I said yes, and that some friends of us had it. I said I knew that because I saw it, but of course he didn't see anything! I think I always look at people's arms when they were short sleeves because I do have KP, but apparently some people never look at other people's arms...

Well, I am still not confident enough to wear sleeveless tops but at least I know that my boyfriend is far from being freaked out!

Claire.

Aww! That's great to read

About three years ago I had a KP breakout on my back and was using LacHydrin at the time for my arms. The prescription had just expired 2 weeks or so before the KP on my back started. Guess my bf could tell I was a little stressed out or something, so I told him about it. And before I could call for an appointment at the derm, he stopped by the pharmacy on the way home and picked up some AmLactin (which I found out was basically the same thing as LacHydrin.) Maybe it's silly, but I just thought (and still do think) that was very caring.

My KP scars are all over my arm, but the bumps mainly on the back...and my he said a similar thing, well yea your arms a little redder after being out in the sun, maybe you're in between burning and tanning. LOL. *men*

Sometimes I think he needs an eye check-up but for the most part it's great to have someone like that who keeps you in KP check. I always notice people arms too...I'm sitting here giggling at "apparently some people never look at other people's arms..." apparently so! We're just paying attn to detail right?

Thanks for sharing that, great start a lousy weather day!!

Maybe it's not just men- maybe it's people w/o KP. I don't have KP, my four year old does. I notice it on her because I bathe her and, well, I'm her mom! But I really wouldn't notice it on a male or female friend and if I did I would care less. Maybe you should do a test and ask people you have not told you have KP if they have noticed it. If they haven't perhaps it isn't such a big deal to let it show in public. I would be really disappointed in my friends if they cared about how my arms looked in a tank top. Noticing something is different then caring about it too. People may notice it but not be judging you in any way.

I think it is just us judging ourselves indeed... My boyfriend gets some bumps on his back (not KP, just normal nack bumps!!), and I couldn't care less! I help him exfoliate in the bath.
But I find MY bumps disgusting!

I can completely relate to your story-

I dated a really good looking guy one summer and never noticed he has KP also. Here I am with it, and I didn't even notice he had it and were were on the beach all the time!
My husband did not know I had KP until after our son was born and I had a full KP explosion.

Of course, I can leave the garbage bag by the door for him to take out and he does not see that either...LOL

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Kim

I think it is just men honestly. I'm a 22 years old and have had it for probably 7 years and I usually don't even think about it. You women are obviously much more self-conscious and I think you judge each other much more than any guy ever could. The things you're nervous and self-conscious about I guarantee 9/10 guys would never notice.

My husband make a really good point...

It seems as though I'm excruciatingly aware of every place on my body that isn't absolutely smooth. I have to shave my legs every day but his particular day I hadn't showered, so I hadn't shaved. My husband put his hand on my leg and I flinched. He knows I don't like to be touched when I'm "*****ly". Anyway, we talked about it for a few minutes and he asked me this, "How smooth is the skin that men touch on their own bodies? I mean, men have hairier arms, hair on our legs, hairy armpits, stubble on our faces and necks. Even on a *****ly day, your skin is much smoother and silkier than mine EVER feels."

It was an epiphany of sorts for me. My hyper-awareness comes from having experienced perfectly smooth skin and not having it any longer. He said he knew for sure that men don't notice the same way we do.. and after all, it was fear of "boys" noticing that drove me to treat it as a teenager. It helped me put it into perspective.
