Minoxidil is really working !
Hi there, my outher third of my eyebrows was losing hair. I'm now using Minoxidil for a few months and I have a lot of hair regrowth. It really works ! Minoxidil is a hair regrowth treatment. I use a 5 % Minoxidil topical solution. Just search on Google and you can buy it everywhere. Also check if Minoxidil is not dangerous for you !!

Thanks for the info. I'm in the same boat and have started Minoxidil now to see if I can duplicate your results. Since there is not much traffic on this website subject, do you mind if you and I share some treatments, stories, advice on our condition? What have you done? What works and doesn't? Do you have red brows on the outer third? What age and when did it start? I'm dying to find someone else to talk with about this condition.

Hi. I'm 22. I also have KP on my cheeks. My ulerythema started about 1.5 year ago. It is said that the combination of monoxidil and Retin-A is really good. I'm now going to buy some Retin-A. You have to wait about 4 month till you can really see improvement, but it is worth the price. My condition is still improving and I'm very happy with it. Every night I put some monoxidil on my fingers and put it on my cheeks.

red cheeks..
my son is 16..he was told 2 years ago that he had ulerythema oophorogynes...but we were told that the only treatment was laser, and you needed to go to a specialist who used the laser a lot!!! We live in upstate NY where there are plenty of good hospitals, but the dermatologist told us we should go to boston...My sons eyebrows have ALWAYS been thin, so we didnt really think they looked any different!.. But he has the real red cheeks, that looks just like the pictures i have seen on the internet..We got 2 other opinions from reputable dermatologists, and they both said he DID NOT have ulerythema oophorogynes... We tried retin-A...it only made his face more red...but it was also the middle of winter and about 10 degrees outside, so that could have added to the chapped red look...I am glad to see that there is some "traffic" on this site, it usually is pretty slow...Lets stay "connected"..Robin

Thank you both for replying. I'm 31 and have had OL for since I was 8 years old. My parents never did anything about it and I didn't know what was going on until about 4 months ago. I went to a University Dermatology Center and they correctly diagnosed me with KP on the arms and legs and KP Rubra Faceii with OL as well on my face. I have the red cheeks, bumps on my arms and thighs, and also the red outer half eyebrows with thinning hair. I don't care much about the arms and legs. The face has gotten less red since I was a kid, but still noticable. The eyebrows are my main concern. I don't want to lose anymore hair and I want the red out. The derm gave me Retin-A, Carmol 40, and Hydrocortizone 2%. I used them for a month and had no change. The bumps on the eyebrow hair follicals were reduced a bit though. Then they said I need the laser so I went to have the IPL done. They had to shave the outer half of my eyebrows to get the best contact and results they said! So I was desparate and let them. IPL is the wide spectrum gentle laser. No improvement and I look worse becasue all the hair is gone. The derm said the IPL eliminates many different colors instead of just red and might take 5 to 6 tries. I can't afford that! They said my best course is the PDL. This is the laser that targets the color red, and the blood vessels. It also bruises your face for a week. Sept 7 I'm getting the PDL done. In the meantime, I've started Minoxidil 5% to see if I can grow back my eyebrows faster and fuller since they were shaved on the outer half. That's my story! Let's keep this going...

Harmy,
You know Monoxidil is used to grow hair right? Why would you put it on your cheeks, to grow a beard? I think you might be thinking of Retin-A. What does your cheeks look like that you are trying to treat? |

I'm not using it on my cheeks. I only use it to regrow hair on my eyebrows. I will now add some Retin-A on my eyebrow treatment because I read that it's a good combo to regrow hair.

Ok, I thought it might be a mistype. So it took you 4 months to see new hair? When did you first notice new hairs? I'm on my 2nd week. I don't see too much improvement. I apply twice a day with a q-tip and let it dry. It gets a little flaky though after drying, and sometimes glossy and red is the look I get. I'll try everything though.

I think I first noticed some new hair after using it for 2.5 months. So I think you have to be patient. But I only apply it at night. It's still improving !

That's cool Harmy. I'll let you know when I see progress. I'm wondering if the PDL laser will destroy the hair follicles? Are your brows red at all where the hair is missing?

It's amazing to see so many posts on this site!!!!! Where do you both live??I am in upstate new york. It is amazing to me that most dermatologists dont seem to recognize Ulerythema oophorogynes, or even understand that red cheeks arent just "normal" skin color..Hopefully the more we keep this message board going the more peoplewill join in our discussions..

I agree. I actually diagnosed myself to the resident Dermatologist here at a major university hospital. They were impressed. Took them about an hour to confirm what I told them and verify the info I printed out for them. I think we know best because it affects us the most. Wish one of us was a PDL specialist so I could go to them for my laser treatment! Seems I'm the first case ever to be treated at my hospital. They are taking all kinds of pictures and documentation to start teaching it to their college students and interns. That's good!!!

hard to believe that we have to teach them!!!! We should start a picture gallery and send it to them!!! Have you heard that v-beam laser was the way to go or pulse dye laser...or are they similar???..I heard less bruising with v beam!, ...I went to a plastic surgeon here for removal of some moles and he knew alot about pulse dye laser, but I mentioned V beam laser and he sort of looked at me with a blank stare!!! Just wondering..Robin

Sounds like to me that the VBeam is an offshoot or type of Pulse Dye Laser. VBeam requires a few more treatments because it's gentler and has less bruising. I'm taking a week off work and don't want a lot of treatments so I'm going to see if they will use the regular PDL and crank it up.
