No eyebrows

I just found this website, I can't believe there are others out there with the same problem. I was born with no brows. At the age of 3 my eyebrow area turned red and bumpy. Been to several dermatologists and pretty much told to "learn to live with it." In the last year my eyebrows have started to grow, but they remain very red and bumpy. I eat healthy, take my vitamins etc. I have found that when I cut out meat and dairy products my skin improves in general. I can't afford hair transplants or laser treatments, but have used "cover up" and mascara to increase hair volume on my brows.

Re: No eyebrows - any treatment for regrowth? :(

this is mainly for Skye but saw the replies which are old (Apr) and have mainly only talked to Anne about it. I have the UO and also keratosis atrophicans on the cheeks and above the eyebrows- started in my mid 40's with itchy bumps in the eyebrorws. Prednisone 5 mg every other day helps tremendously but have not found any creams etc that work for regrowth. I, too have Scottish ancestors but back a ways- my great great grandparents were from Scotland. I flush whem the blood press. is even slightly elevated, but again the pred keeps that under control. As for eyebrow regrowth, any luck anyone? Judy

Sorry to say, no luck. I tried Minoxidil, Retin-A, lasers, lotions, Carmol-40, Elidel, Hydrocortizone, and nothing works to either reduce redness permanently or regrow the hair. Took 6 months off any treatments...going back to the derm Sept 6 to start over. I'm going to keep going until they figure it out!

the only thing that worked for me was oral prednisone- 5 mg every other day- have been on it for 10 years or so. Judy

Hi Ryan

It has been said that a lot of these rarer KP conditions like Ulerythema Ophryogenes (redness and hair loss on the outer third of the eyebrows) and atrophoderma vermiculatum (redness and pittng on the top of the cheek) occur more in people with a celtic background.

I have UO and AV and I know it comes through my Dad who was a Shetlander Islander.

I am not sure how old you are and how advanced the redness or hair loss is. I am 46 so the UO has run its course in me however in saying that my eyebrows still gets itchy sometimes. I have found that extra virgin coconut oil has helped to calm the redness and itchiness down.

My 12 year old son was also experiencing some redness and hair loss in one eyebrow. I used EVCO on this and the redness subsided along with the hairloss.

I hesitate to say that it is a cure but it is a cheap harmless product that certainly helped calm the redness - whether it would prevent hair loss longterm I don't know.

I got mine through a NZ pharmacist who developed it for KP. This is his site.

Koru Pharmaceuticals - ---Koru --- Systems

This is the name it appears under on the above site:

Koru kp Oleum (which is EVCO + Vitamin E and emollient/thickening ingredients).

I am sure you can find it in Scotland also. If you search in the main forum under coconut oil or EVCO you will find quite a few encouraging posts.

Anne- Are you using the EvCO for the KP atrophicans on the eyebrows/cheeks? I went to the site you mentioned but didn't see an EVCO product--Judy

Hi Judy:

It was Koru kp Oleum that helped Anne's son (which is EVCO + Vitamin E and emollient/thickening ingredients).

Kind regards,

Annuu

Re: No eyebrows - any treatment for regrowth? :(

Thanks Annuu - forgot it went by the other name!

Hi Judy - how have things been?

I have been using the extra virgin coconut oil (Oleum - on Annuu's site) on my eyebrows.

During the winter we had lots of bad frosts and my eyebrows really played up. They would get so itchy (I am not sure why this happens but presume there is still some active KP there?).

Anyway I had used Annuu's oleum on my 12 year old son's eyebrow when it started getting red a while back and it had helped it.

So I tried the EVCO on mine and it also calmed them down. I would just put it on at night if my eyebrows were playing up. Now that we are in spring I haven't been using it as much.

It certainly won't hurt to try it.

regards
Anne

Have you ever heard of Aminexil ? it is a hair loss regrowth agent like minoxidil developed in France by L'oreal. it prevents perfifollicular fibrosing (scarring and hair loss). hard to get since over seas and be careful buying online because of fake counterfits. but I researched for awhile and found a good supplier on ebay, just type in aminexil in ebay search engine and look for the seller hairgume 99.9 feedback and is in the source of the aminexil in France. little expensive but I read it works. watch buying from some people because I viewed manufacturer pics by Kerastase and pics of the ones sold online and they are either old makes or fakes. the real stuff comes in 10,20,42 vials only! Kérastase Paris click on programmes A domicile, then click kerastase specifique, then on your bottom right click on chute de cheveux. then look for 2 traiter and click on the rectangle box (grey and white) its in french but you get the idea. use an online translator to transalte, by searching ask.com for online translator or unless u can read french.

From what I've read, the follicles are essentially dead it's impossible to regrow hair since the tissue there is scarred.

I've come to accept it over the years and I charm people with my personality and the eyebrow thing is actually sort of cool now, it's a distinguishing thing.

hi everyone- I hope you all find success with the treatments. I continue to stay on the pred, avoid the sun, alcohol, any irritants- really exacerbates the redness. Since I am going on 60, I've learned to live with the red brows and cheeks at times. The 5 mg. of pred. keeps it in check. Judy
