I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

Hi everyone, my name is Valery. I have had been plagued by KP since birth. I have always been uncomfortable showing my arms and legs since I was a teenager. I am coming up on 28 years old and nothing has changed, no improvement in the condition and no reduction in my self consciousness. I have never found complete relief but I feel most comfortable in the height of summer when I am completely tan.

Anyways, its not really warm here in Wisconsin yet, I haven't started tanning, so I am still pale, bumpy and self conscious. My mother (who also has KP) called me yesterday to tell me that she started using "Smooth Away," you have probably seen the info/commercial, its intended to be used for hair removal. Well, the way it works is by rubbing the hair off your body. The pleasant side effect is that it actually exfoliates the bumps without the normal damage and redness to the skin.

If you are like me, you have been through the times when you would be willing to rub all the bad skin off if it meant that new smooth skin would be a possibility. This always seems to lead to disastrous consequences of bright red skin that is worse then what you started with. I have been using it for two days now, I am going through the replacement pads like crazy, but it seems to be actually buffing the bumps down! I think that if I can keep up with this everyday, my skin will improve!

I just wanted to share this because it is an inexpensive home treatment with seemingly no undesirable side effects. I bought the product at Walgreen's for only $9.99, so if nothing else, the cost is cheaper than getting your eyebrows waxed, and it does remove hair (face and body.) The small down side is that (I think) because of the KP, I am going through the replacement pads faster than another person would, it wears down. However, I expect the longer I keep up with this, the less bumps, and the less replacement pads I will use. I checked online and Walgreen's sells packs of the replacement pads for $9.99 (18 per pack, 12 body pads and 6 facial pads,) but I have not bought them yet. Either way, I am thankful for a way to exfoliate that works and doesn't rip up my skin (and you don't have to do it in the shower or bath.)

If anyone else decides or is using this method and has any comments or suggestions about other methods to use in combination with Smooth Away, please reply. I am excited to see how this works over time!

Take care,
Val

Hi LLL,

Welcome to the KP Forum. Please post again and let us know if you see a lessening of KP by using Smooth Away.

My treatment: Oil pulling daily; candida diet (minimum of carbs, no sugars); omega-3 from canned salmon and sardines; sun exposure 10-15 minutes, 3 days a week, without sunblock; program to strengthen immune system; probiotic supplements; lots of water; moderate daily exercise; exfoliation with epsom salts and sugar several times a week. KP reduced 99%. If I go "off diet" -- grains, sugars, etc. -- or stop oil pulling, KP returns.

I too started Smooth-Away Pads and my god I had instant results. I've had KP all my life and have always covered my arms and legs and hated anyone to touch me. Now I'm wearing sleeveless and can't wait for someone to hug me and rub my arms. Even my daughter has noticed I'm "not cold anymore" because I don't have goose bumps anymore I love the smooth-away because I don't have to scrub myself raw or stand around waiting for anything to dry ! Its a miracle.

Re: I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

I use smooth away too. There is another brand called "Smooooth Legs" which works well too. I have a problem with picking the kp bumps on my legs & arms and this product makes it so there's nothing to pick at. My kp has gone down like 80% and I haven't picked a bump since I started using these pads. I don't do it every day. Every other day or every third day...

Hint - use on perfectly dry, un-moisturized skin. You will see the exfoliation happening. It's like sanding the bumps away. Microdermabrasion you can do at home.

Warning - don't overdo it. I don't think you can actually do a lot of harm to yourself with these pads but too much rubbing and your skin will burn like a sunburn for awhile. Be moderate and gentle.

I LOVE IT. Huge difference.

Re: I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

This actually irritates my KP bumps a LOT. And it's annoying to see my skin like that.
I love smooth away though, on parts of my body that i don't have KP on.

And it clearly states not to use smooth away with skin conditions. I guess that applied for me.

Re: I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

I used Smooth Away for about a week as well after reading the suggestion on this site. It didn't work one bit for me...it actually made my KP more inflamed/irritated, as the poster above me said. Glad it's worked for some though!

Now I'm curious about this and if it would work... I think the natural cure of eating better and supplements could make this work even better.

Re: I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

Hi all: I am new to this group but not to KP! I've been searching through all of the ideas, etc. and have tried quite a few over the years...none that have worked. I'm looking at this "Smooth Away" option and am just wondering...okay...this is kind of gross...but my KP...if I pick at it...the bumps have white yucky stuff, like a blackhead in them that you can squeeze out...it just seems like the Smooth Away would be shaving off the top of the bump and the yucky stuff would still be in my follicle. Does this make sense?

Re: I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

Ablue, I definitely know what you mean. That's another reason I feel like Smooth Away doesn't do it for me, it's not really helping the problem in my case.

Re: I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

Hi Rosebud:
That confirms what I'm thinking. I believe that the Smooth Away would just irritate my KP...it is already red with bumps...exfoliating hasn't really helped in the past but I think I'll give it another go and try the Sea Buckthorn regimen. I'm glad that the Smooth Away has helped others though. I will keep you all posted on my experience with the Sea Buckthorn.
Amy

Re: I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

I have used Smooth Away twice now on my arms. It works great for me to make my skin smoother and get rid of the bumps. Visually it doesn't get rid of it that much, but feeling wise, my arms are much smoother. I haven't tried it on my legs or anywhere else yet, but hopefully it will work there too. It's so nice to be able to run my hands up and down my arms and feel how smooth they are!

Re: I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

@ablue and rosebud..

Does exfoliating make it worse for you guys? I think it does for me, the more I'm reading it seems different things work for different people, and different things can make it worse for different people. It seems like after I get out of the shower its the worst, but I dont know if that's because of the heat or the exfoliating. When I don't exfoliate, its not like the kp goes down, at all. Who knows?

Re: I just started using "Smooth Away" :)

Yea I agree with Candice, you can feel the smoothness immediately after use, although visually its a bit slower. This is definitely worth a shot, as you can get it at your local stores for around $10
