Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

It has been 6 days into treatment and I am definitely noticing some changes, my KP does seem to be getting worse, especially on my legs and it is also appearing in places I not had it before (under my arms) On my legs there are raised red bumps, which I am taking to be a good sign. Overall I am feeling quite positive, I am glad I am doing it now before summer comes! as mentioned in my previous post I am using alot of sea buckthorn products but I can't seem to find any hair conditioner with sea buckthorn (I know it may not be necessary, but I would like to know if there was one) Also I was wondering if anybody knew of any sea buckthorn lotion that comes in a large container? I use the Weleda one (which comes in 100ml bottles), which I think I will get through quite quickly, as the bottle is almost empty and its only been a week!

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

Hey Toni,

Keep us updated on your progress! I am doing SBT treatment too but I only started it two days ago. I'm using the Weleda lotion and oil too which comes in 3.4 oz bottles. I wish I could find something larger too, I'm trying really hard to conserve it but I have a feeling this is going to end up being pretty expensive!

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

I am so glad I found this thread. I excitedly read the first post and was sold. I am ordering some Sea Buckthorn soap and lotion immediately.

What struck me about this thread was that it mentioned Philippine ancestry (!) and the fast that the mites spread. When I was younger, I only had slight KP and it has spread and gotten way worse over the years. I am currently using Soul Owner (a glycolic foot cream). The sea buckthorn makes so much more sense to me! I can't wait to try it. Thank you!

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

I am less than a week into treatment. I am using the soap and lotion by Aubrey. I can't tell if it is working, but I can say that my skin is itching. I have facial acne to begin with, but the soap seems to have aggravated my face as well. I hope that is a good sign. I apply the lotion to my legs, my arms, underarms, chest, and neck. I would like to order some shampoo as well. My scalp is always itchy. I also experience a lot of shedding and have for many years. I always wondered if it was my diet, but the demodex mites make more sense. After reading this thread and thinking back over the years, I realized I have had so many skin and scalp problems since childhood. I wonder if demodex may have been the cause all along. I really hope this works for me! I am also thinking of getting some borax.

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

I was wondering if anyone did this treatment with KPRF. Did it reduce redness on the face? Thanks.

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

I first learned of the wonders of sea buckthorn here and have now done extensive online research. I have been using Aubrey's bar soap for about a week and am going to expand to Aubrey's lotion and a SBT shampoo. I've heard good things about Face Doctor's shampoo, but I'm just not willing to spend $30 for 8oz if I can avoid it at all. I've also looked into Dr.Hauschka, but have read negative things about it.

So, essentially, I'm on a quest to find a shampoo that contains SBT, but is affordable. I've found a couple and just wanted to either get your opinions upon looking and seeing the ingredients and whatnot or even better if anyone out there has tried either. Also, if anyone has any other suggestions. (I tried to link but can't because I don't have enough posts, sorry! These are exact names so they can be searched for) Thanks so much in advance!

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

Hi uncrystal
I have the Lavera Apple Milk shampoo (I didn't think the Almond Milk shampoo had sea buckthorn in it?), I have tried it a few times, it is a nice shampoo and reasonably priced, but it is difficult to say if it has been effective against the mites. I have also purchased the Aveda scalp benefits shampoo recently, but have yet to try it. The main reason I bought the Aveda one is because my scalp can be a nightmare, I can get scabby bits (not nice I know!) and theres a snowstorm of flaky bits when I brush my hair. Although I have notice my scalp has improved alot since I have been taking the sea buckthorn supplements. I will update you with my opinion of the Aveda shampoo when I have used it a few times.
A quick update on my SBT treatment my arms are definatly improving, but my legs still have quite bad KP, mainly around my ankles and on my calves. I will continue taking the SBT supplements and using the products for the foreseeable future as the products I am using are natural products and I like using them. Hopefully my Kp will continue improving too.

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

Thanks so much for the reply Toni!

According to lavera.com (arrg I wish I could link ha) there is SBT in the almond milk and apple milk shampoos. Honestly, I just asked about the almond because I thought I would like that scent better. I'm looking for the cheapest, yet still effective shampoo really. The lavera shampoos are $17.20 including shipping for 8.2oz which is very reasonable.

Aveda on the other hand including shipping is $20.95 for 8.5 (which isn't good in comparison) and $41.14 for 33.5oz (which is a very decent price) from fragrancenet.com. So, if the results are comparable I'd probably go with the larger bottle of Aveda.

I also searched around ebay a bit and found "Aloe Formula Dead Sea Organic Sea Buckthorn Shampoo" from the seller Shlomi-770 It's $14.98 including shipping (it ships from Israel) for 10oz. I'd probably ask the seller a few questions before buying, but it's another possibility.

All of this is moot for me at this point, though. Right now I'm using Aubrey's SBT soap and my plan is to use it until either I see some change or run out. If the kp does worsen I will then buy some seabuck-7 and one of the shampoos. I've been using the soap 1-2 x a day for just shy of two weeks as of now and no change. I realize that because I'm only using the soap it may take longer and I'm willing to wait. I figure I've had kp for 15 years so a few more weeks isn't going to make a difference ha.

I don't care much for the sandalwood scent of the Aubrey's soap, so I was looking around for an alternative. I found some homemade "Sea Buckthorn and Passion Fruit Moisturising Soap" from the seller thescentedblossom on ebay. I haven't tried it yet because I want to finish the Aubrey's first just in case the quality isn't as good, but it has good reviews and smells absolutely delicious. It is $5 including shipping for a 4oz bar.

Whew sorry for all of that ha. I'm the ultimate bargin shopper!

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

I am almost a month into using Sea Buckthorn soap and lotion by Aubrey. I can't say with certainty that I have very noticeable results, but maybe minor ones. I really like the lotion. It is very lightweight. One of the original SBT posters said it smelled fishy. I can see that a little bit. I find the scent pleasant.

My current plan is to continue SBT along with both chemical (Philosophy Soul Owner and/or Paula's Choice BHA's) and manual (pumice stone) exfoliation.

I've noticed an increase in bumps on my neck, shoulders, and chest, which leads me to believe I have Demodex. I hope to incorporate an SBT shampoo into my regimine. I have always had scalp issues.

I will continue to update and check back to see if anyone else has had a breakthrough.

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

well, everytime i've been using this soap, right after i come out of the shower and dried up, it starts to itch. but it just does that for the first 10 minutes or so until i put Retin-A on it.

is that a good thing, that it itches so soon? should i stop putting Retin-A?

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

Midnight --- Is retin-a just for your face? Retin-a makes skin more sensitive. Maybe you should try using one or the other, but not both.

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

it's for my chest, which is infested with KP. But i realized that REtin-A is causing peeling sort of now, like from Kp's it's causing it too peel. You think it's a good thing Ke-bod?

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

Retin-a does cause peeling. No, I don't think it is good (the peeling). If you want to stay with retin-a, I suggest you cut back on the amount you are using and only use it every other day until your skin becomes used to it. I read these two suggestions on the internet, but now I can't find the link.

Here is an article you can read on reducing peeling when using retin a.

Re: The Sea Buckthorn Treatment Guide

I don't even remember how I came across this forum, but I've seen a lot of people talk about Sea Buckthorn here, and I had to join and add my comment. I know of at least three people who tried it and it worked for the the first time (great results the first day), and didn't come back for a few months after using one bottle.

Toni,
Interested in the SBT and did a search on the shampoo. Found a company that has a SBT Conditioner. Their cost is $19.95 each for shampoo & conditioner. Good price? Not sure of size though.Sea Buckthorn Hair Products
Hope this is what you were looking for if you haven't already found it!

Also, I was wondering if anyone has used the shampoo as an all over body wash, not just for hair? Seems like it would be easier and less cluttered in the shower to knock down the products. I would assume that it would be ok since it's supposed to work on the scalp, why not every where?
