Smile Dandruff Shampoo

I started using Dandruff Shampoo on a body loofa about 6 weeks ago. My KP was gone within the first 3-4 weeks. I had scrubbed my arms and legs everyday. I stopped using the dandruff shampoo & loofa while I was on vacation and the KP returned. I then started using the dandruff shampoo and loofa again and it went away within a few days. Hope this helps others! Good Luck!

Just a question after you take a shower did you use any lotion? If you did, what kind of lotion are you using?

have you tried the loofah without the shampoo? I've heard using a loofah is enough for mild cases.. but still- it's only topical treatment.

Yes, I do use lotion after my shower, I use Vaseline Aloe Cool and Fresh (it's a green bottle). I have used it forever and didn't seem to have any improvement until I started using the loofa & dandruff shampoo.
I did start out just using the loofa and body wash, but I only did that for about a week, no improvement was noticed. I'm not really sure if it's one thing or the other, but I know something is working so I will keep doing both. Maybe I will experiment this winter when I can wear pants to cover any KP if it returns. I do scrub pretty hard though.
I would describe my case as moderate, it was mild before I had my daughter but did get much worse after her birth. When it was mild, I only had the bumps without the redness. People always thought I had goosebumps & I just let them think that because I was embarassed. Then after my daughters birth, the bumps got worse & a lot were red. Now the bumps and the redness are gone.

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

My sister has a rosecea rash a long time ago and the doctor said to buy dandruff shampoo (Selsun Blue I think) and to coat it for about 30 minutes 2x a day to get rid of it. If this is the right brand- it says on the label for treatment of rosecea in addition to the dandruff.

Re: Dandruff Shampoo - selsun info

it seems the active ingredient in both kinds of selsun is selenium sulphide, and that the blue one has a lower % of it.
(googling selsun + rosacea, a few people report one or the other (normal or blue) as helping their particular cases of rosacea; one saying the bumps worsened before improving).

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

Hi:

Selsun Blue's active ingredient is Selenium Sulfide, some people recommend it for treating rosacea and acne. You can also use any shampoo that contains Selenium as an active ingredient.
Maybe there are other brands at your local drug store or convenient store.

Not all Dandruff Shampoos contain Selenium. Be careful when selecting the appropiate one and read the label to be sure you are not buying a Zinc or Coal Tar shampoo.

You can also have a daily intake of Selenium, but ask your doctor first. Selenium is a mineral considered to be a native antioxidant in our cells. Some people use it to boost their inmune system and fight cancer and lupus among other disorders.

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

Does anyone know of any other brands that have Selenium in their Shampoo? I've just checked both shampoo's in our bathroom just now - two Fructis and Pantene variants, neither with Selenium.

Persie:
When I decided to post a reply, your post wasn't there. Now, I noticed that you posted the same answer but first.

Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment is another option (it contains Selenium Sulfide). The bottle is completely dark blue.

Read the back label before buying any other brand and check on the active ingredients. Do not buy Coal Tar shampoos- it is suspected to be carcinogenous (cause cancer) and also it is a photosensitizer (damage skin with sun exposure)

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

Oh, I forgot to tell you that Selenium Sulfide *is also very good eliminating fungi infections on the skin (i.e. pityriasis versicolor/tinea versicolor).

You can apply it on a DAILY basis using (1:1) 1 part of the shampoo and 1 part of water to dilute it. Leave it for 2 minutes and rinse it out. Do this for 21 consecutive days**.

Important Notes:

*Be very careful not to be exposed to the sun. Why? The administration of Selenium and its compounds can cause photosensitivity and your skin could be damaged.

**If you don't use Selelnium Sulfide or other fungi med. for 21 consecutive days the fungi can develop stronger and acquire resistance to the medication. It is the same for antibiotics, some Drs. recommend them for 7 consecutive days, to really kill the bacteria. Microorganisms can create a resistance to some medication in order to survive. Then your medication is not going to affect it at all.

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

Hi all!

Just to add - after reading about it here I tried Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment (it has selenium sulfide) and i have been applying it in the shower as a body wash - leaving it on for a minute or so - before washing it off. I've done it twice - and - it seems to me that the redness is going down slightly. Might just be my imagination or wishful thinking - i'll keep on doing this to see if it continues and if I see something more significant.
