Be very careful not to be exposed to the sun. Why? The administration of Selenium and its compounds can cause photosensitivity and your skin could be damaged.
This is very true because my Mother back in the 80's belonged to a gym and she spent time in the hot tub and as a result has a fungis all over her chest and back areas. It really just looks like she spent alot of time in the sun and became freckeled. My mother is very white and never goes in the sun because she burns badly. Over the years our family Doc. still tell her to put Selsum Blue to rid it but she never does.

Thumbs up Re: Dandruff Shampoo

I started using dandruff shampoo only three days ago and already see an improvement. I have very sensitive skin so have never tried anything to clear up my Kp before. A couple weeks ago I noticed alot of new puffy bumps on the backs of my arms. Bigger bumps than Im use to having, flesh colored at least but still very annoying. I read this thread and saw that the shampoo has helped some people so i figured I'd try it since I already had a bottle in my shower. I lathered it up on my arms and let it sit for a minute or two and then scrubbed it in with a thick washcloth (cant even use skin brushes or loofas becasue of my sensitive skin). Like I said its only been three days and the bumps seem to be smaller and pric.kly now....which I believe means they are drying up. I'm going to keep it up and eventually try adding a sugar scrub to the mix!

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

I use a Neutragena dandruff shampoo because of the sacylic acid percentage. I don't know if it helps...scrubbings makes more bumps come up. Tonight I am going to scrub really hard though. Then pack on lotion.

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

I use T-Sal by Neutrogena. I don't have experience with more bumps from scrubbing. It seems to make my KP dry up. I use it with a loofa and let it sit a minute or two. I also use AHA lotion after. My legs are more clear and very smooth. I have been doing this for 1 month. I'm sticking with it all winter so it will all clear up by next summer and then I'll keep up with it by exfoliating and 1x daily applications of AHA.

Exclamation Re: Dandruff Shampoo

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I use generic Head and Shoulders dandruff shampoo on a loofa. The only active ingredient is Pyrithione Zinc. I would love to hear from anyone else who this has helped. Remember, it took about 3-4 weeks for my KP to go away completely. Good luck!

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

I've decided to give this a try, too. I bought the H&S blue bottle. In addition to my KP, I've had some funky rash that keeps popping up in different places on my body. My derm told me to keep using the Rx she gave me, but it's a steroid ointment and it only says to use it for two weeks. I thought I'd try this and see if I can kill 2 birds w/1 stone! I've only used it twice, but I also feel like my thighs aren't quite as red, but maybe it's wishful thinking- like JoshB said! I'll keep you posted!

Pyrithione Zinc is an agent known to be antifungal and antibacterial. Your skin may be improved because of the elimination of bacteria causing irritation. Also PZ is good for dry skin.

Do you exfoliate?

Is this different than the "zinc" you said to avoid in your previous post? Just curious.

Thanks,

What I meant to say was to be sure not to buy any Dandruff Shampoo that you see in the store without reading the label first. You should ensure that you are buying the desired active ingredient because there are lots of Dandruff Shampoos with different compounds and ingredients.

This is the shampoo that I say you should avoid.

Avoid sun exposure no matter the shampoo, lotion or treatment that you are using. Some chemicals react to sunlight.

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

Thanks Elsa!
My cousin had a dandruff shampoo in her bathroom that had the zinc ingredient and I got worried, but now I see that that's not the one you meant was possibly cancer causing!

I have been using the H&S Intense Therapy (blue bottle) for about a week now and I really do think I'm seeing some improvement! I seem to have fewer bumps and the redness appears to have faded a bit. I'll keep it up for a couple more weeks and see what happens.

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

You are using the right H&S shampoo (Selenium). I'm glad that you are seeing some improvement. Are you combining this with another treatment or moisturizing lotion?

Please keep us posted with your progress.

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

I've just started using Selsun blue - fingers crossed I see an improvement in the next few weeks!

Do you put it on in the shower? Or rub it in on your dry arms then wipe it off?

Re: Dandruff Shampoo

You can apply it to your skin while taking a shower (like a body wash).
Leave it aprox. 2 min.
Rinse/wash it off completely.
Do not expose directly to sun light.

I am on a pretty reduced-dairy diet, just by coincidence, though (my son has food allergies). Not sure if that is helping, but I've read several posts here suggesting a dairy-free diet helps.

I use Dove sensitive skin soap and Eucerin (original) lotion. My skin is pretty dry, though, so I know that can be too greasy for many people. That's it, though!

Oh, and I try to eat a lot of carrots!

Nice!

I'm linking you to Baronster's thread so you see what changes in diet have worked for her and other members. Here

Hope this works!
