LOL, I think this is funny because to me it looks like Lisa Barger has no more authority than kebod or stinger, or Turquois or me or my dog!

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, or so we say. I think Ms. Barger is overlooking the sublingual absorption possibility which seems like real ignorance since many eastern, western and various medicinal practices in between all use sublingual applications for rapid absorption of certain substances.

I have had great improvement in oral health and I do not rinse my mouth with anything except for a mildly sweetened cup o tea afterwards. So, when I read the writings from a woman who may not have KP or joint inflammation or bad oral health gas on about something she hasn't even tried, it does make me laugh. - bd"

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

You make some good points, bd. Although, I do wonder if her scientific claims have been refuted directly. But you make a strong point with the sublingual issue.

So, when you swish the oil, you are absorbing the core nutrient value and discarding virtually all of the lipid content without losing much? It makes sense. And, obviously, sublingual absorption has been shown as a superior method of absorbtion in pharmacology.

I'll start tomorrow!

OP and pregnancy

Another oil I'd be cautious with would be rice bran oil.

The following page cites med journals/articles regarding studies on rice bran oil which is very active in some ways. Studies have not borne out that it increases testosterone activity but body builders use it and purport that it has some benefit such as that. While it may not be strong, when you're pregnant and already nauseous and your hormones are already swingin' around, I personally wouldn't mess with it. I had pretty bad morning (actually afternoon) sickness...

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

So, i have noticed that my KP is improving slightly. However, I have no clue what has caused this. I started oil pulling each morning for 20 minutes on December 7th. I started going to the tanning bed a few times a week for 5 minutes on January 7th. I started a new medication, Doryx, from my dermatologist on January 8th. I've also continued to use Elidel and Desonide topical lotions for the past couple of months. So, take this however you'd like. I'm going to continue to do all of these things in hopes that it gets rid of the KP entirely.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

I've been oil pulling for about 2 weeks or so.

POSITIVE Side effects(Oil pulling with coconut oil): My skin is mildly less dry, although that would also be from beginning to take an EFA Pill daily, and cutting down using soap to only once a week or less. I used to get dry, peeling, crumbly skin behind my ears. That has improved a lot. Very little dry skin there now. My skin also seems to be able to handle Retin-A on my face better (less peeling and redness, if any). My whole body is less itchy, and less often itchy, although once again this is also from cutting back on overly washing my skin with soap, and addition of EFA supplements. My teeth seem to be whitening. There is less plaque build up. I can brush my teeth much lighter now, and remove more plaque (loosens the plaque or something). I'm sure my breath is better and my mouth feels a lot cleaner. I OP 20 minutes in the morning with 1/2 TBS, and then swish 1 TSB around my mouth for 5 mins a day and swallow it 1'ce after breakfast. Having coconut oil gives me tons of energy so its not wise to have any after 8.

OP, so far, has done nothing noticeable to remove or prevent my KP, however. I think its a good idea to do it though, because its like anything else that's good for you, its better to do it then to not do it.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Chris,

Thanks for posting your comments on OP. I, too, noticed my skin was less dry after I started oil pulling. At the time, I had not reduced the amount of soap I used nor how many times I washed my face (I now do), so I can say that OP alone made my skin much softer, less itchy and gave it a feeling of being moisturized.

My teeth are absolutely much whiter -- the whitest they have ever been my entire adult life. They did have a yellowish cast to them and I was thinking of having my teeth whitened by a dentist. Thank goodness, I didn't do that and expose myself to even more chemicals. Coconut oil can produce the whitest teeth, thought the other oils help whiten, also.

I hope you stay with OP for at least a month to see if it makes a difference for your KP.

kebod

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

I tried to do OP but, it seems that the op caused me to get very bad acne. I was never acne free i just to get some acne but, not as much as now. Its all over my chin and on my cheeks. Has OP caused acne to others? The reason i started to OP was to look better and now i look worse with acne on my face.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Monica,

Oil pulling can stimulate the release of toxins into your system, and the skin is a huge cleansing organ, so it is getting rid of the "junk". In that respect, this is a good sign -- you are doing house cleaning. It usually doesn't last more than 3 days. I hope you stay with OP to give it a chance.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

kebod do you still use coconut oil or do you switch time to time? i have been OPing with extra virgin coconut oil from nutiva since november. it did help my kp with the first and the next month, however the effects were not as dramatic after that... i bought a gallon of coconut oil because i use it to OP and use it as a moisturizer. should i look into switching another oil?

i also notice that my kp and my mild case of acne seems to get worse 2 weeks before my period =(. has anyone noticed this too? (the KP part because i know some women have hormonal annoying pimples that start to form before their period).

maybe some cause of my kp has to be some hormonal problem. i know that birth control pills seems to balance women's hormones so their acne gets better. i was also wondering if anyone seem to notice any improvement with their KP using the pill?

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Misslala,

I still use coconut oil every day. I OP two times every morning -- once with coconut oil and the second time with another oil, which varies from month to month, depending on what I have on hand. Right now, my second pull is with avocado oil. As long as you are working up a good mouthful of saliva, you don't need to change oil. But if your benefits are no longer as noticeable, you may want to try a different oil, like untoasted sesame or sunflower.

KP can be linked to hormonal changes, as we have learned from those women who never had it until pregnancy. I hope someone answers you about a link between the pill and KP. If not, perhaps you would want to ask this on a new thread to see if someone responds.

Have you had any other benefits from OP? If so, please let us know. Thank you for posting.

kebod
