Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Molly,
Thank you for giving us the link to a solid study on oil pulling. It's good to see something like this that validates our results. For those of you who are new here and don't know Molly, she first posted here just over a year ago, telling about how oil pulling helped her husband, who had KP. Then she suggested I post here, too, as I had also experienced a huge lessening of KP when I started oil pulling. And the rest is history. Our oil pulling/KP forum is over a year old, and still going strong. Molly posts here from time to time, and always has something helpful and interesting for us. Molly and I met on the Cure Zone Oil Pulling Forum, which introduced me to OP. Check out that forum if you are interested. Oil Pulling & Oil Swishing Support Forum: Page 73 of 73 kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Desperate,
Desperate, your oil is probably OK. What brand is it? You don't want to use an oil that has been deoderized and bleached, as this leaves chemical residues. They do that to the cheaper coconut oil so it doesn't have a coconut flavor. I hope you stay with pulling and can continue to see more skin softening. Be alert for other health benefits, as well. Please stay in touch. kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Kebod,
Thanks for your reply. The brand is called Jarrow Formulas. It says on the back that it is expeller-pressed from the dried flesh of the coconut palm fruit and does not utilize any solvents in the manufacturing process. The ingredient just says 100% expeller pressed organic coconut oil. It comes in a big black jar. I got it from Whole Foods. Let me know. Thanks!!!!! |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Desperate,
Jarrow's is a good oil to use for oil pulling. To Everyone, I just ordered coconut oil from Mountain Rose. For those of you in the US who are serious about using coconut oil, this is the best price I have found online. One gallon organic, cold-pressed for $28. Carrier and Vegetable Oils kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
I have to say I still get a little confused about which oils are best, even though I feel I have read everything I could at least twice. I use spectrum but accidently got one refined and one unrefined. My Sunflower is Spectrum refined organic expeller pressed and my coconut is Spectrum unrefined virgin expeller pressed.
Because I started with these I continue to use them but have no idea if I should be using refined or unrefined as I have read conflicting things between curezone and earthclinic. I just keep on keeping on and praying, LOL. |

Refined or unrefined oil?
Peaches,
I wouldn't worry about it. This method began in India, using refined sunflower and sesame oil, and that original information is still posted. Unrefined would have more of the good qualities, since I believe the less a food is refined, the better it is for its nutrient value. Unrefined oil is not available in Mexico where I live, so I use refined with good results. The three oils I use are refined, cold-pressed olive oil, refined, cold-pressed avocado oil (neither are organic), and extra virgin organic coconut oil. Even cheap vegetable oil works, but since it is believed that oil nutrients may be abosorbed sublingually, it is best to use the best and purest oils you have available and can afford. Here is a link to read more about the different types of oil. It explains the different terms, including cold-pressed and expeller-pressed, refined and unrefined: Whole Foods Market : Products : Cooking Oils kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Camco,
If you read the post right before yours, you will see that the best oils to use are expeller-pressed or cold-pressed, unrefined and organic. If you can only buy non-organic and refined, they will still help you, but they probably contain chemical residues. A natural food store is good place to look for these and Spectrum is a good brand (if you are in the US). Sunflower has a mild flavor, so it is recommended for beginners. Untoasted sesame, coconut, and avocado are other good oils. How to do it: When your stomach is empty (first thing in the morning) put 2 or 3 teaspoons of oil in your mouth (1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons and is the recommended amount, but for some, it can seem like too much). Slowly move the oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes. If you want, you can start out for just 5 minutes, and gradually increase the time, day by day, until you work up to 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, spit the oil down the bathroom sink drain or down the toilet. Brush your teeth and rinse your mouth out with warm salt water (sea salt is best). Drink 1-2 glasses of water. Now you can have breakfast. You can oil pull in the afternoon or evening if you prefer, provided it has been 3 hours since you last ate. For some, doing it in the evening keeps them awake, because it can be energizing. Others don't feel this effect. It also helps to eat a very healthy diet, take an omega 3 supplement, exercise and drink lots of water. Oil pulling can make a very healthy difference, but if you aren't taking care of yourself, it may not be as beneficial. Good luck and let us know if oil pulling helps. kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
MB,
Until we have good research done on OP, we will just have to go with individual results obtained from trying this method. I agree with you that "how it works is a secondary concern". It is a method that seems to be able to help minimize bumps for those with mild KP, but doesn't always helps with redness for those with severe KP. There are those who think its primary action is by absorbing essential fatty acid (efa) from the oil. This seems to be an effective way to deliver efa, perhaps beneficial in its own way when compared to taking an efa supplement As far as toxins go, yes, the mouth is a breeding ground of various bacteria. Some of this bacteria is absorbed into the bloodstream, and medical research now finds that oral bacteria contributes to heart disease, diabetes, and other conditons: "Periodontal bacteria can enter the blood stream and travel to major organs and begin new infections. Research is suggesting that this may:
Connections Between Gum Disease and Other Health Problems Oil pulling reduces oral bacteria. Here is a study that shows this: (I'm not having success copying and pasting this link, perhaps because it is a pdf. Sorry. If you google "Effect of oil pulling on plaque and gingivitis" perhaps you will be able to read it.) It is a small, preliminary study, and more is needed, but it is a beginning. I hope you try oil pulling and can give us your own results. You will need to do it for at least 30 days to see a difference, though some see healthy benefits sooner. kebod Last edited by kebod; 10-20-2007 at 09:58 AM.. |

Supeng,
You may want to try a different oil, like untoasted sesame or coconut, if your redness persists. kebod |
