Re: cured at last
Hola Kerato,
I checked the link for the sunflower oil. It says "blanqueado y desodorizado", in English, bleached and deoderized. It is better to use an oil that is not blanqueado y desodorizado because they use chemicals to do this. If this is the only oil you can buy to use, then use it. But if you can go to a natural food store or health food store and buy oil that is not bleached and deoderized, it is better. If your uncle is coming from NYC, ask him to go to a natural food store and buy coconut oil for you, the kind that is not bleached and deoderized. kebod |

Re: cured at last
Hi kebod,
Well I just discovered this forum a few weeks ago, and it blew my mind! Thank you so much everyone for posting all this stuff. People who don't have this skin condition don't realize how traumatic it is. Anyway, I have made an appointment for a couple weeks from now for a vega-test. Meanwhile, I am going to start oil-pulling, and kebod, I had a couple of questions for you. 1) I bought organic, extra-virgin coconut oil from whole food (brand is Barlean's). It says it is cold-pressed, but doesn't say anything about expeller-pressed. Are these two things mutually exclusive? Which one is better? Should I return this one for an expeller-pressed one? 2) The oil is semi-solid at room temperature (I was told it doesn't exist in liquid form). How does the swilling/swishing work if it is not liquid? 3) I know most people say to pull for 20 minutes, but I don't know if I have the time in the morning to do this. It is awfully long! Do you think doing just ten minutes will help, or will it have no effect? Thanks Kebod! And thanks everyone for posting. I have spent days reading posts on this board, and gosh-darn-it, if we solve this before the medical community does, I wouldn't be surprised. There is hope! ![]() |

Re: cured at last
Hi DtoB,
Welcome to our forum! We don't all have a perfect remedy, but we sure are trying lots of different methods. As you read more, you will see that not all methods work for everybody. We have to keep trying until we find what works for each of us. Answers to your questions: 1.It doesn't matter if you use cold-pressed or expeller-pressed. They are both good. 2.Coconut oil is solid under 74 degrees. It will be liquid above that temp. You can keep your jar in a warm place, like near a heater vent or in a closet with a water heater, or put a spoonful in a small dish and put that dish in a pan of hot water (don't get the oil too hot, just melt it), or put it solid in your mouth and let the warmth of your mouth melt it as you move it around. I put it solid in my mouth and move it around in the winter. 3. You will have the best benefits if you can oil pull for 20 minutes. If you can only do 5 or 10 min., well, it's better than nothing. Some of us do oil pulling while in the shower, watching the morning news, doing email. When I first started, I did 20 minutes. Then I cut back to 10 minutes and my bumps started coming back. This proved two things: oil pulling really was making my bumps go away and I really did need to do it for 20 minutes. Please post again and let us know if oil pulling helps you. kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Hi Kebod,
Thanks for all the info! I will definitely keep you guys informed on my progress. I am going to hold off on starting until next week so that I can borrow my friend's camera and get some before pictures. It seems from all the threads I've read on this site that a lot of people didn't take before pictures and subsequently regretted it. Hopefully this will be helpful to me and others to chart my progress and figure out what is and isn't working for me. So I will try to post the photos early next week, and will start op-ing soon thereafter. Cheers! |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Hi Supeng,
Gargling isn't how you do this. Here's how: put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth and slowly move it around (pulling or swishing) for 20 minutes. If one tablespoon seems like too much, just do a little bit and gradually increase the amount. The same if 20 minutes seems too long. You can work up to it. You can use the oil you have at home, but it is better to buy an oil at a health food store or natural supplement store. Look for an oil, like sunflower, untoasted sesame or coconut, that says organic and expeller-pressed (or cold-pressed). You can also order these oils on line. Don't buy a coconut oil that has been bleached and deoderized. They have chemicals added. Please post again and let us know if oil pulling is able to help you. I hope so. kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
hmm well since switching to olive oil my skin has been alot better, but i reckon this is because i have taken up scrubbing my skin with exfoliants till it is red raw again
i kinda gave up scrubbing when i started oil pulling cus i wanted to see if op would have an effect by itselftbh i dont have much confidence in op, but i might as well keep doing it cus its not causing any harm and is quite addictive ![]() |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Kerato,
All of the oils you list are good. There isn't much difference between expeller pressed and cold pressed. Buy any of these oils. Scarred, Unrefined sesame oil is fine, as long as it is NOT toasted, which it probably isn't if it says unrefined. Caitlin, scrubbing with exfoliants until your skin is red and raw sound like way too much scrubbing. Read BunnyDay's last post on Turquoise' "My Search is Over": "you should NEVER do anything to your skin that causes pain, redness or irritation. You are NOT helping it by doing this, no matter your intentions. I say this because a lot of Keratosis Pilaris people think that they are not exfoliating "enough". I hope you are finding some relief or benefits from oil pulling, if it has become "quite addictive". ![]() kebod |
