I pulled a tablespoon of oil for approx 15 minutes every morning, right after waking up, before brushing, at least until the oil became thin and white. I used cold-pressed sunflower oil. I did this for about two months, and I could not detect any difference, whatsoever, in my KP. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether I should give it another try with coconut oil?

Re: cured at last
Peaches,
Thank you for your interesting observations. It shows how important it is for us to listen and observe what our bodies are telling us. You hit the nail on the head -- we are each so individual and need to keep trying until we find the right remedy. I'm glad to hear your husband is seeing KP improvement. Keep on posting. kebod |

Re: cured at last
LCP,
It is a good idea to change to a different oil every 3-4 weeks. Why don't you try another oil and see if you have any benefits. Also, are you eating a very clean diet with omega 3 foods and supplements, drinking lots of water, eating lots of veggies and getting some daily exercise? It all adds up to better health. kebod |

Re: cured at last
I am so jaded now. I saw this oil pulling posted on another KP forum, and I instantly thought it was a blatant attempt to promote something to make money.
![]() Also, I wanted to add that I put up a Notepad on another board, if anyone wants to read it to get some ideas on how to start dealing with their KP. I actually started it a long time ago to help people. I believe this link should work without you having to sign in. http://www.makeupalley.com/user/notepad/sencha/ |

Re: cured at last
Kebod,
Thanks for the response. Yes, I have a clean diet (very, very few processed foods, lots of veggies, >36+ grams of fiber, not too much meat, less than 30% total fat intake); I exercise every day (walking, yoga, biking); I take a tablespoon of omega-3, 6, 9 oil several times a week; I do not take any prescription meds and use Advil and Tums only occasionally. Again oil pulling did absolutely nothing for me. But perhaps I will give coconut oil a try. I don't suppose it can hurt, and if nothing else, I can't imagine that it can be anything but good for the gums. |

So, I guess I have a little challenge for you since it could also help with more info on KP and EFAs (or ignore me, whichever if is fine with me... ): take your omega3s _every day_ and don't necessarily skimp on fat if it's "good" - olive oil, yadda yadda yadda. and sure, give coconut oil a chance since it has different components than sunflower. Also, grapeseed and olive have different constituent fats and are not as pricey.btw - I'm in a region where it's hard to find anything but "canola" oil in the cooking oil aisle. Yet, I make sure I have several different cooking oils now that I know there are many different fatty acids that our bodies utilize in different ways. I have a canola/palm oil mix, cocnut oil, grapeseed, sunflower, peanut, sesame and almond. some for cooking and some for OP and cooking. - bd |

Re: cured at last
thanks bunnyday, i've checked this out but it doesn't look like anything i have. okay,my op questions are ... what is the benefit of doing back to back sessions? would it be wise to switch oils ei: 20 mins of sunfl oil then right after 20 mins of sesame oil ( because i've read that certain oils will draw out different toxins ) if i spit oil out and its not "frothy" what does that mean?

Re: cured at last
pnayrb,
Look for sunflower, untoasted sesame, or coconut oils. These are the mildest for beginners. Look for cold-pressed or expeller-pressed, preferably organic. You may order on line, but if you have a natural food store in your area, they will carry them. Please post again and let us know how OP helps. kebod |

Re: cured at last
Hi Kebod:
I haven't found the coconut oil to begin OP. ![]() I thought that it would be easier to find it in a Tropical Island like Puerto Rico. I will be looking for it @ other stores. |

Re: cured at last
to Elsa Zoe and Caitlin,
Elsa Zoe, do you have a natural food store in your area? If not, you can order it on line. I thought it would be easy to find in Puerto Rico, also. Caitlin, corn oil is not recommended. Sunflower oil, untoasted sesame, or coconut are good oils to start with. Also not recommended: canola oil and peanut oil, any toasted oil. kebod. |

Re: cured at last
Hi there Kebod,
i have been oil pulling for a while now with extra virgin coconut oil, the lard stuff, it melts in my mouth in seconds........I use this because of the anti parasite nad anti fungal properties....as we both know candida lives in the mouth. well, we have all looked at the oil in the toilet and sink and glass after spitting out, but I discovered if youspit into a glass and examine under flouresent light you can see all sorts of "stuff" ... ![]() so I experimented and brushed my teeth 4 times, swished with apple cider vineagar, and then oil pulled 3 times, every time I see "stuff" and lots of it. I use a red wine glass that has a really wide bottom, and hold it up to the light and you can see very clearly that toxic matter is being pulled from the mouth. ![]() Cheers |
