Danny
I have wondered if the gagging reflex can be somewhat self-induced. It sounds like you didn't gag until after you spit out and looked in the sink. This is easier to deal with than if you felt like gagging while the oil was still in your mouth. You're right -- you'll get used to it and it won't seem like anything out of the ordinary.
So how did it feel when you were done? Do you notice whiter teeth, fresher breath? kebod |

To Elsa Zoe
Elsa Zoe, I saw your question about OP on Baronster's thread. Yes, cold-pressed coconut oil is a very good one to use for clearing KP and for over-all moisturizing.
OP seems to be most effective with mild KP by diminishing bumps. Of all the different oils I have used for OP, coconut is best for skin softening. Please post again and let us know if you and Juan see any results. kebod |

Re: cured at last
thanks for your reply kebod.
the black dot is gone now thankfully . i showed my mother (who said she couldnt see it) and she told me that she thinks it is just where the sealant had worn away and that was what was underneath. made sense to me so i just ignored it. i checked my teeth this morning and i couldnt find it at all! i was very pleased. overall my experience so far has gone really well. i can put oil in my mouth when i wake up, get dressed and do all those things i need to do to get ready for school and then spit it out, brush my teeth, and leave. so it hasnt proved a hassle to me which is very good. i have noticed though that after i oil pull, theres alot of mucus in my nose so i have to blow it a few times to get it all out. its clear so its not a cold or anything. is this just the oil pulling clearing out my nose and throat? ive never had sinus problems or anything, just the occasional cold. |

to Katiebug
I'm really glad to hear the black dot is gone and had nothing to do with oil pulling.
Darn, what bad PR for oil pulling to have these yucky de-tox symptoms! The mucous really is a good sign, believe it or not. Oil pulling is triggering your body to dump substances it does not need. It's a way of cleaning out, if you want to look at it that way. I had a lot of nose blowing and throat clearing for about 2 months after I started OP. Somehow, I had stored junk that my body didn't want and didn't need. On the Oil Pulling Forum, this is a common de-tox symptom when one first starts. Some never experience this, but you are, so think of it as cleaning house. For those with allergies, OP makes a huge, positive difference, and maybe this mucous clearing accounts for that. Since my son started OP, he doesn't need his allergy meds anymore. Please keep in touch. kebod |

Therefore, it hasn't been a huge surprise to me when I did a little research that the more anti-inflammatory oils work best (even great! except EVOO which I have a sensitivity to) for me and have greatly reduced and eliminated chronic joint pain I've had for years. Maybe after a year or so, some others could be added back in but I'm sticking with the traditional sunflower and sesame mostly. Anyway, for both your friend and Peaches and others, check out the oil's nutritional content on www.nutritiondata.com and other sources. Looking up oils on wikipedia can be helpful, too, particualrly when there are links to other sources of info to reassure you. - bd ![]() |

Re: cured at last
Thanks kebod and bunnyday for your comments, I will try to do a little more research. She may well have been using sesame oil, which the ND site lists as inflammatory. She said she couldn't think of any changes in her diet, except that she started drinking carbonated water, so maybe we should look into that as well.
bd, what are your favourite oils to use? The site says that sesame is inflammatory? And sunflower is anti-inflammatory, but only the high-oleic... how can you tell if the oil is high-oleic? I can't find anything on my bottle at home that indicates this... Last edited by sheena; 08-24-2007 at 01:06 PM.. |

Re: cured at last
Danny, one tablespoon (equivilent to 3 teaspoons) is correct. Just move it around slowly for 20 minutes. It should be a gentle, slow action, not fast or tiring. Be sure to rinse your mouth with warm salt water when done. Sea salt is best, as other salts can have additives. And brush your teeth. And have 1-2 glasses of water and you're done!

Re: cured at last
Just thought I would post an new developement.
Remember the skin tag on my eye, how it disappeared after starting oP? Well last week it started growing back. I thought it was my imagination, but realized it actually kinda started itching, right before it started growing back. It has never itched before, actually never did anything before except just be there, then left after oping. So after a week I noticed I could actually "pull" on the skin tag as it had grown back big enough to grab. So I was not imagining it all all. So the only thing I had changed was the oil. Remember I quit the sunflower then went to coconut full time then used both. So to experiment I stopped the coconut altogether, and yep, you guessed it (maybe lol) the skin tag on my eye has started to recede again. I know this sounds crazy but it's true. Each day since going back on sunflower full time, twice a day, the skin tag gets smaller and smaller. Its still there but I can no longer grab ahold of it and pull on it. In conclusion...I am confused, LOL. I really want to use coconut because of its anti fungus properties, but clearly, for me personally, if I want that skin tag gone, I need to use sunflower. Im gonna stick with sunflower only till the tag is gone then try and go back to sunflower in the am and coconut in the pm and see if it stays gone. Amazing, really, what I am learning about this whole thing. |

Re: cured at last
Peaches, your experience is a good example of how different oils do different things for each of us. We each have to find the oils that work best. I am going to post a question right now on the Oil Pulling Forum asking if anyone knows of another anti-fungal oil. If anyone there responds, I'll post the answer here. In the meantime, peppermint oil and oil of oregano are both anti-fungal. You can put two drops in your spoonful of sunflower oil for pulling. Of the two, I don't know which is the more powerful anti-fungal.
