Perhaps coconut oil is not for you and you need to try a different oil, like untoasted sesame or sunflower. Perhaps you just need more time for OP.
The skin is a huge cleansing organ, helping our body to rid itself of wastes. More bumps may mean more cleansing is happening. I'm sorry I can't give you a definite answer. There is no science or medical research behind this, just a lot of testimony from many people about how it has helped them. If I were you, I'd change oil and keep on with OP. Also, I hope you are drinking a lot of water -- 1/2 oz. for every pound of body weight and eating a really clean diet. Include Omega 3 oil supplement or food (flax seed oil, cold-water fish like sardines and salmon) in your diet. It all works together. Please keep in touch. I hope you see results. kebod |

Hi all!
Alright, so I got to page 27 and just couldn't read anymore, ![]() Here are my questions... 1. I live in a "village" no Whole FOods or anything around, just moved here. What website shall I go to? I want to try the correct Sesame Oil and do not want to waste my time with the wrong stuff. Any suggestions? 2. I definitely want to try coconut oil for my body...again no where to purchase that here, online suggestions? And just to make sure, I can apply to my body after my shower correct? even though I will be pulling? 3. I have been wanting to try the tsp of vinegar in the morning. Anyone have any info on that? Can I do this in addition to pulling? Before or after? prbly after right? 4. I think "bloom" mentioned Walnut...you say you really like this one or you did millions of posts ago...is this still true? If so, shall I start there? Thanks for reading ![]() I have had KP all my life. I am 26 and really only have KP on my upper legs and rear end OF COURSE! UGH! They are never red though or itchy just annoying flesh toned. I am pretty dark in color as I am greek and latin so I have this deeper tone. I think I may have some on my face because I ave a few flesh toned bumps in my T-zone that just will not subside. I spoke with my hubby last night and he is so excited to get started also. He doesn't have KP but I told him that there are health benefits as well, right? Anyay thanks guys! I'll check in soon. ![]() ![]() |

Hi!
I have been reading this entire thread from first to last with great interest, also over at the curezone oil pulling forum. I have twin boys who have KP and also my husband has it, so oil pulling was of great interest to me. i see nobody has replied to this post since December. Is anyone here still doing this? I would love to hear updates. Also, I started OP for other benefits that people talk about but was not sure I was seeing any results, no white teeth or anything but then I noticed I had this little "skin tag" on my right eyelid, it always anoyed me and I wanted to cut it off as it has been growing in the last year. So after a week of doing the OP I notice it is gone!! There is nothing to grab a hold of!! You can still see where it was, like a little white spot, almost like a whitehead but the tag is completely gone!! I started with Sunflower and this week started coconut. My question, if anyone still does this, is the coconut makes me gag after only 5 minutes. Once I could do the coconut for 15 minutes, then 20 minutes but then some days I cant use it at all. I have bad pms this week and last night I tried to use the coconut (some say it helps pms) but oh my gosh, I almost threw up!! I know its not the taste of it, that does not bother me. There are times I can use it with no problem, then times I cant. Do you think the coconut is stronger? or that it is pulling more toxins which is why I gag sometimes?? Thank you. |

Hola We3,
1. Web sites to order coconut oil: http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/vi..._oil.htm?s=gad http://www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com/ Untoasted Sesame oil: http://www.amioilmill.com/sesameoil.asp I haven't tried any of these, as I buy in stores. 2. Yes, you can apply coconut oil after a shower or bath. Towel off very lightly so that your skin still has water moisture on it. This will help spread the coconut oil. 3. I don't have experience with taking vinegar, so can't help you there, but if you do take it, take if after oil pulling. Do oil pulling before you eat or drink anything, even water. 4. I really like walnut oil, but I wouldn't recommend you start with it, as it has a stronger flavor. Start with a mild oil, like sunflower or coconut. If you like tahini (sesame paste), you'll like untoasted sesame oil. If you haven't already, read my post yesterday, post # 1065, to read more benefits of oil pulling. It sounds like you have no redness, just the bumps, which is what I had, so it is very likely you will have success also with oil pulling. I am mostly vegetarian (some fish) and eat a very clean diet. I think this makes a big difference. Also, drink lots of water and take an Omega 3 supplement. Please post again. I would love to hear how OP goes for you and if you have success. kebod |

I'm not sure what you mean by "nobody has replied to this post since December." Except for about 10 days recently when this forum was down, we have been actively posting here, practically every day.
We get lots of posts from people who ask questions on how to start oil pulling, but most of them do not post again to let us know how it is going for them. I would love to hear from everybody, even if they are negative posts, so we can tell how many people this helps or doesn't help. All I can do is hope for the best that they are being helped. I'm so glad to hear about your "skin tag" disappearing! I guess you mean it was a little growth? I had a raised, brownish spot/blemish under one eyebrow. After doing OP for several months, I noticed it was gone. I really believe that the changes we see on the exterior don't compare to the changes happening internally. The exterior changes reflect our internal healthy changes. I don't know what to tell you as to why you can pull with coconut oil on some days but on other days it makes you gag. Are you sure you are drinking plenty of water, therefore, have plenty of saliva? Maybe you do have a stronger reaction to coconut, as you say, and would do better with a milder oil like sunflower. Try a different oil and see if it helps. Somtimes we have to experiment with different oils until we find the one that works best for us. Please post again and tell me if you have success with another oil. kebod |

thank you for you reply!
I apologize about the date, I think I looked at the last reply and saw the persons join date said december and I thought that was the date of the post instead! My bad!! The skin tag was just that, the doctor said you get them as you get older...YIKES! I just turned 40!!!! Anyway, my mom has one so I knew what it was, but its just a piece of skin that grows and you could actually grab it and pull it/and the eyelid. Was not huge but there was enough there to grab. Like I said, now its gone. I can still see where it was but now its just a pinhole size and white. I hope it keeps on fading now. Water is all I drink, don't drink coffee, tea, soda (maybe a soda with popcorn) but I gave everything up years ago and drink strictly water, or water with a lemon in it. Some days I get in more than others. In my mind, I almost feel like the coconut oil has a "stronger" effect on me. Maybe if I have eaten bad that day, or possibly the hormones from pms, causes the coconut to have more strong effects, thus the gagging. I also notice more sinus drainage with coconut than my sunflower, though I really dont get much of that with either of the oils. Its just my own theory, but that is how I feel. I have been doing sunflower in the morning and coconut in the evening and like I said, sometimes I can do the coconut full 20 and other times I gag and puke and almost cry after only 5 minutes. Very strange, but not with the sunflower oil. My husband and I are doing this first, if his kp gets better I will have my sons do it. So far neither of us have noticed any changes of any kind except for my skin tag. Was sad I didnt get whiter teeth, that would have been a bonus. To be honest I wish I had more to go on. I get no energy or anything I read so much about. But I am not giving up, I mean clearly it's doing something so Ill keep with it. thanks |

Hi everyone,
Here is an update on my OP. I am back to coconut after trying olive oil for a couple weeks. I found it really heavy and had a strong aversion to the taste (strange b/c I love eating OO on bread and in foods) so I switched back. I have tried sesame and sunflower and have got a bottle of grapeseed oil to try as well. I took a break from OP for a couple weeks b/c I was curious to see what would happen but I only lasted a short time b/c my hay fever which hadn't bothered me at all this year came back with a vengeance. I have been pulling again for 2-3 weeks but I still have the hay fever. I am curious about this... I don't think it is just the pollen at this time of year b/c according to an allergy test I did in the spring, grass is the worst for me and I sailed all thru grass season with barely a sneeze. I told some friends about this, and when they tried it they noticed immediate improvement in their symptoms. Overall these are the benefits I have had: 1. lighter period, less pain 2. lightening of dark circles under the eyes, probably by 80% (yay!) 3. up until I went off pulling, no seasonal allergy symptoms 4. my face looks fresher, I swear the lines around my mouth don't appear as deep! 5. I tend to break out on my cheeks during hormonal shifts in my cycle, and this seems to only improve when I am pulling with CO 6. I don't notice an energy boost when I pull, but I think my overall energy level is better. I have struggled with low energy and Seasonal Affective Disorder for years, and I am getting lots done these days. The real test will be in the dreaded November, greyist month of the year. 7. Usually in summer my feet get dry and calloused from flip-flopping around, but this year they are much softer, esp. the heels All the changes I have noticed have been gradual, nothing I can see in a day or week. Sadly, not a lot of change in my (mild to moderate but stubborn) kp or post-nasal drip. I will probably stick with OP for the other benefits tho, and I think I may look into a cleanse next. Good luck everyone. Last edited by sheena; 08-03-2007 at 09:11 PM.. |

Sheena:
I would question if it is allergies. there is a summer cold going around here that looks a lot like allergy symptoms. I would say I've noticed some of the same benefits as you with op. |

Peaches, it sounds like you are very aware of bodily changes. Coconut oil is having a stronger effect for you, and the sinus drainage is a very good sign -- a cleansing.
How old are your children? I have read that children as young as five do oil pulling in India. Some on the oil pulling forum have commented on not having whiter teeth. There seems to be a consensus that OP doesn't remove nicotine stains. But some had posted that OP seemed to clean the teeth enough that they could finish the job with baking soda. I had a stain on a front tooth. No matter how many times I did OP or vigorously used my toothbrush, I couldn't clean it off. After reading about this on the OP forum, I used a wooden toothpick and made a paste of baking soda and water. The stain scrubbed right off. Former smokers on the OP forum have used the same technique to whiten every tooth. Once the stains are gone, OP keeps the teeth white. You might try this. Please keep in touch. kebod |

Wow, what a list of healthy changes from oil pulling! This is really exciting to know how much you have noticed.
Dogwood may be right that this is just a summer cold, but if it goes on and on....plus for some the symptoms are different (between a cold and hay fever) and only you will know. On the OP forum, there have been postings from allergy sufferers saying they have relief after 3-4 pulls. If you have the time, you might try this. Use a different oil each time for maximum benefit. When I have the time, I do 3 back-to-back pulls, first with sesame oil, then grapeseed oil, and finally with coconut to leave my teeth their whitest. I have also noticed less darkening under my eyes and also way less facial lines. My husband used to have cracked, dry heels and they are now soft and smooth. I, too, find olive oil very strong tasting, but I pull with it every now and then because it has such great properties. It is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, the latter important for those fighting candida. http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache FFJP01wdFkJ:www.oliveoilsource.com/oliveoildr-skin.htm+olive+oil+anti-fungal&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1I'm sorry you're not see noticeable KP changes. Perhaps with more time or a different oil. Thank you for keeping in touch and please post again with an update. kebod |

My boys are 15, so they are capable of doing it, I just thought I would use my husband as the trial run to see if it works before I add yet another healthy regiman to their daily list already, haha! If they see it works for their father they will be more inspired to do it for themselves. (after all you know how it goes with each new "idea" to try to fix kp, it gets exhausting)
My teeth are not stained per say, no nicotine or coffee or such but they are simply not white, more of a dull yellowish color. Strange thing happened this morning, I actually gagged with my sunflower this morning after only 10 minutes. First time ever for me. My working theory is, I am very close to my cycle starting, and maybe this is affecting it?? I have only been doing op for 2 1/2 weeks. The last 2 days its been this gag/vomit thing every time, regardless if its the sunflower now or the coconut. Could be coincidence with my cycle, or just more detox that I never really had??? No idea. I did notice that my sunflower is refined and the coconut is unrefined but after reading sooooooo much about this I still have no idea if it matters or not. Both are by Spectrum and both organic. |

Sheena,
You mentioned your periods have been affected by oil pulling, which inclines me to believe I may be right in my theory with it affecting me as I get close to my cycle. From what you said it seems op does have an affect to/with hormones. Did you notice this right away, like the first month you started with op? This is very interesting and I wish there were more testimony correlating to op and hormones. |

Im sorry to keep posting but I am actually starting to get a little concerned. I now have a metalic taste in my mouth that wont go away and can no longer swish/pull for more than 5 maybe 8 minutes without gagging.
Today I tried sunflower, olive oil and coconut and I gag. I can put more in my mouth and try a second time but again, 5 minutes at the most. Also, the very second I put the sunflower in my mouth tonight it turned all foamy...never did it that fast before. Im just a little concerned. |

Peaches, it is believed that oil pulling pulls heavy metals out of our systems. Therefore, it is good for people who have amalgam fillings in their teeth. These release mercury. This could be the reason for the metallic taste. Are you rinsing well afterward with salt water?
If you have older fillings, it could be mercury. If so, try eating a lot of fresh cilantro. This helps cleanse you of mercury and other heavy metals. Google "Cilantro and mercury" or "Cilantro and heavy metal". You will find hundreds of sites to read. Here is one: http://www.kitchendoctor.com/articles/cilantro.html A more radical and expensive option is to have the amalgam fillings removed and replaced with non-mercury fillings. I have chosen to keep my fillings for now, and eat a lot of cilantro. About the oil turning foamy: as soon as it does, spit it out and put some fresh oil in your mouth, even if that is only for 5 minutes also. I think 4 different oils, five minutes each, will help you as much as one type of oil for 20 minutes. Have you had a recent dental check-up? Could you have a cracked filling? I really think the oil pulling is causing a lot of toxins of some type to be pulled out, hence the gagging and metalic taste. I hope you can keep up with OP, but it is your choice if you do. Listen to your body and do what you think is best. Please keep in touch about this. kebod |
