hmm, does the oil really have to be refined? What is the difference between refined and unrefined?

About Oil
All the questions you are asking are TOTALLY NORMAL. It is asked quite frequently on the other forum. But the beauty of oil pulling is it's simplicity.
Any nut or seed oil will do...refined or unrefined. I wouldn't use old oil, because of the possibility of it being rancid. The reason you don't pull with toasted sesame, is the fact that toasting any seed or nut takes away all of it's health properties. Stay away from Canola, it is made with Rapeseed, and very toxic to the human body...I know, many of us have used that for cooking in the past, but I'd get rid of it. Peanut Oil is know to contain mold, so I would steer clear of that oil. I don't want any of you to worry about the oil itself. I personally use Hain Sunflower (it is expeller pressed). I also have bought organic sunflower. I also have used organic Sesame Oil. I prefer organic, because that is what I believe in. But really, don't get too caught up in the whole right and wrong oil. Use the oil you feel the most comfortable. Dr. Karach suggested Sunflower or Sesame for the best results. I hope that answers all your questions. You are all doing great....now go smile in a mirror and show those pearly whites, because if you don't have them now, you will shortly. Good luck to you all. Molly |

I just typed a reply to StevenK, and it said I sent a "report"...yikes, don't know what that was!! Hope I didn't do anything wrong. I'm sorry if I did, not used to this forum.
Anyway, as I was saying.... "Refined" oil is processed to remove impurities. "Unrefined" oil is expeller or cold pressed. I think this is right. We believe that possibly Dr. Karach said to use refined because, who knows what kind of oil they had in Russia? At least this is what we think. Molly |

I fell off the wagon. I have a new baby and a four year old and not being able to speak for 20 minutes in the morning is tough. BUT, my KP is driving me nuts (post partum it just exploded) so I'm willing to give it another shot.

Good Morning!
Tried my first OP this morning. It seemed very easy. Didn't bother me in the least. I did it for 20 mins. I know it's supposed to be watery & colorless when you spit. It did seem a little oily still & had a very slight yellow color. I hope I did it right. It seems like it would be hard to do it wrong though. I swished it around for 20 mins without swallowing. What more could I do? Does this mean I should swish longer though? Until it is completely watery & colorless? I am excited because my husband agreed to try it. He has been suffering from psoriasis a long time. It's been 2 years for this particular outbreak of lesions & he just can't get rid of them. He's not one to prescribe to 'hocus pocus', but sometimes one gets desperate! I will be sure to let everyone know how it works out for both of us as we progress. Any thoughts/recommendations are appreciated.....Thanks & have a great day! DeeDee |

To DeeDee
Please tell your husband that this is not some kind of voodoo. This was studied by a real doctor, and even if his claims seem to be a bit dramatic, the physiology of the therapy is real. We recently had someone on our other forum examine what is in the oil after your spit (or his oil rather), and it supports the findings of Dr. Karach that there are live, newly formed bacteria, but surprise, he found a lot of other organisms on the slide. He's going to continue to experiment and keep us informed. Very interesting stuff.
The visual benefits are quick, the other benefits sometimes quick, sometimes slow. My husband is the biggest cynic in the world, and he does this every day, without fail. Molly |

Thanks for your quick reply Molly!
I have told the hubby & he is looking forward to giving it a try. I myself understand & believe that this is "real" and scientific. But of course, like most of us, I always wonder - if it works so well for so many diseases/ailments - why the heck haven't we heard of this before & why isn't everyone doing it - it's so easy!! That's just the way the world is I guess. Quick to dismiss anything that sounds slightly strange, but more importantly (& unfortunate) - just content to use the regular run of the mill techniques & medicines that they have always been using even though most of these things do little or nothing to fix the cause of the problem & often make ones body look & feel worse. In any case, I'm glad I found you guys and am now aware of this seemingly wonderful therapy for cleansing & healing the body. I am really so excited about this!! Thx again (& if you don't mind, let me know if you think I need to swish longer than the 20 mins - as I mentioned it still seemed a bit oily & a tad bit yellow in the end) DeeDee ![]() Last edited by DeeDee2; 10-30-2006 at 09:43 AM.. |

Bacteria
Molly, first I would like to thank you for all the effort that you've been putting into this. Second, I would like to offer a little insight that might clear up some confusion. Bacteria are everywhere: on the keyboard, in your intestines, on your skin, etc. Many of the bacteria in your mouth are benign. So it is normal for one to spit out oil and finds bacteria in it. In fact, if one spits out water, one would find newly dividing bacteria in it. I'm not saying that I don't think oil pulling will work. I think it could possibly work by evening out hormone imbalances. But saying that one's spat oil contains bacteria is not a persuasive argument.

Hello Everyone!
I too am new to this process thanks to my girlfriend (Thanks D) forwarding me some information on it (just yesterday). I am so very excited about the potential. Thank you guys so much for all the information, personal accounts and links. That makes it so much easier to know what to expect! Today was my second session with OP. Yesterday I used Hains Sesame Oil (because that's what I had on hand). After hitting the health food store yesterday, I used using Hains Sunflower Oil this morning. I took Molly's advise and added one drop of Oregano Oil, since I had it, to one Tablespoon of oil and swished it around for the full 20 minutes (yesterday I only made it twelve). The oregano oil does leave my mouth with a 'cleaner' feel, I assume because of the wonderful antiseptic qualities it has. Then I gargled with the sea salt solution and followed up by my regular brushing/flossing. There is no feeling so fine as a clean mouth I swear. Except maybe running my hand over the back of my arm and not feeling those little bumps anymore!! Hopefully that will soon happen!! I do have a question or two and any input would be greatly appreciated...(sorry if I am repeating previous questions) When I spit it out, it is very white and very foamy, is that normal? My husband has bleeding gums (just had a lot of painful denistry done to correct it) I read that OP was good for that as well any personal experiences with that? My hubby, like DeeDee's is on the skeptical side of things but he said he would try it. I have read conflicting posts about how many times per day to do this. Dr. Karach's instructions say once a day in the morning on and empty stomach...the curezone website forum also suggested 2 -3 times a day (thats a lot of swishing!!). Is there any benefit to doing it that many times per day. Do you think it would make you detox too quickly? And speaking of detoxing, has anybody increased their water intake to expedite the flushing of toxins? Or have you done any other detoxes (liver/colon/metal) in conjuction with this? There are a lot of other health issues listed than can potentially be helped by OP...I personally am wondering if there is anyone here that has had any improvement with a chronic disease or nuerological paralysis. Really I am interested in any testimonies of any other health benefits received from OP. I am so amazed by the claims and by the simplicity of it all that I want to soak up as much information on the subject as possible. Thank you all again for all of your insight and inspiration!!! Looking forward to sharing my progress and hearing your input... : o ) |

i agree with you to a certain extent. i myself am currently trying this method, mostly b/c i am absolutely desperate, and nothing seems to even help me remotely with my kp. you have to understand however, why at this time, it's not being exploited and used by everyone. firstly, this hasn't been proven and regarded by teams of doctors to be healthy or effective. this is one doctors opinion who has posted this on the internet. i mean, not to sound like a downer or anything, but who deems this dr. karach as certified, or professional? i mean in theory, i can make my own website saying i'm a doctor, and spread the same kind of information if i really wanted to. we all could. so please nobody attack me, as this is not meant to dissuade anyone from trying this, as i said i am currently doing so myself. i just think we should all be aware of that. now that that's out of the way, this question is dedicated to you molly or anyone who wants to help me. when i swish around the oil in my mouth, is it supposed to get watery or stay thick? i mean when i spit out the oil it is white and kinda foamy but in my mouth it doesn't really feel like it's thinning out all that much. and are you supposed to just swish it around or are you supposed to "pull" it between your teeth as well. sorry if these questions seem ignorant, i just want to make sure i am doing this properly, b/c it's not something i enjoy, but i will continue to do if it helps. lastly, i have to say, i've never really seen someone suggest something on here to be adapted by so many people. if this actually works i think we will all be shocked! so good luck to everyone, and if this truly works we all owe molly a big thanks. actually we owe it to her anyway for taking so much time to be so caring and helpful...so molly, thanks! |

I understand what you're saying Dre180 and I do agree with you.
Personally, I tend to be an optimist (AKA - idiot - depending on who is labeling me )and am always up for trying a natural remedy, especially when I can see that it has worked for others - and this is especially true because it's not like reading testimonials on someones website.....these people are real & right here in front of us to talk to. Only the amazing (& unending) internet could provide such a service. Being able to talk to real people who have had success with this method is the thing that pushed me over the edge as far as whether to try it.Dre180 - I hope this does work for you & for all of us....wouldn't that be something! The nice thing is that we'll all be here for each other to post our experiences, whether positive or neutral (I don't think anyone has had any adverse reactions other than a potential "healing crisis" where things temporarily get worse as things are being healed). I too am interested in the exact science of "the swish" as I hope I am getting the maximum benifits of this process. I'm sure as long as we're swishing at all, we are making a difference but if we can improve our swish, why not. Please let us know if there is a better or worse way to swish....Thank you Molly & everyone!!! Last edited by DeeDee2; 10-30-2006 at 09:44 AM.. |

how does this work
Your questions are all very legitimate. None of us are scientists here, though many of us on the oil pulling forum (http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=738are) are seeing great changes in our health since we started pulling.
My husband, a former chemist, says that some molecules are water soluble and some are oil soluble. In this case, the oil is pulling out of the mucous membrane of the tongue, the large blood vessel under the tongue, and the inner mouth, oil-soluable toxins. This system of cleansing makes sense to him from his background as a chemist. (He started pulling 2 weeks ago.) We are all exposed to a great variety of pollutants every day -- stuff in the air and water, food preservatives and pesticides, chemicals in our body products that are absorbed through the skin. The list is endless. With time, this stuff accumulates and may be hindering our bodies' own way of keeping itself healthy. To find something that pulls out pollutants in such an easy way, cheaply, conveniently is a good thing. I have been oil pulling for 3 months. I got on this forum when I realized my KP (which was never severe, but persistent, nonetheless, for decades), had disappeared 99% after 21 days of pulling. (I still have the occasional bump, but too few and too tiny for anyone else but me to notice). In the last few months, I have started sleeping very soundly --my insomnia had worsened with menopause. My teeth are as white as anyone who has had their teeth professionally whitened with chemicals. My tongue and gums have become much pinker. My skin is softer all over. This may sound funny, but I don't even have ear wax anymore. (Someone on the OP forum said ear wax is related to liver problems.) My joints had started to ache, and I was concerned because my mom has arthritis and I thought maybe it was starting for me. I have not had any joint aches in shoulders, hips, feet or hands for over a month. It seems to make sense to me that if your body is overloaded with pollutants, chemicals and toxins accumulated over decades, by removing a significant amount of them, many different health issues are bettered, not just one or two. I'm not a scientist and this isn't a scientific explanation -- just a personal testimonial. All I can say is, try it. It costs pennies a day and, at the least, will give you whiter teeth. These questions are good -- we need to better understand and explain this to each other. There is still a lot of research needed in this, but it is not going to be done by the pharmaceutical companies who don't have anything to gain by sales of sunflower oil. Dre, I don't know anything about Dr. Karach'es certification. But it is only vegetable oil, it can't hurt me, and it's doing great things. I would like to know more about him, but until then, I will oil pulling for the rest of my life. I don't make an effort to pull the oil between my teeth -- just gently and slowly swish it around. Maybe you need to change oils since you say you don't enjoy this? Maybe try it for a shorter period of time? Sunshine Girl, it is supposed to be white and foamy when you spit -- that is normal. Sienna Noventa, you're right -- spit would always have bacteria in it. In this case, it is thought that harmful toxins are also being removed. One pulling session a day for 21 days is all it took for me to see KP improvements. I think some on the OP site are doing it more frequently because they are experiencing benefits, and just want to have even more improvements in health in a shorter time span. No one on the OP forum has reported detoxing too quickly. KP, I haven't heard of water pulling. Is anyone doing that with results? Let us know if you try this and what you experience. Sorry for another wordy post. I get wrapped up in this sometimes, I'm so enthusiastic about it, and I tried to answer all the questions. If I missed anything, send them again. Good luck to all of you. Keep the questions coming. Check out the OP forum link in the beginning of this post. You will see your questions answered there, plus some. kebod |
