Re: Oil pulling treatment
Ah Ha so you first get wet, then scrub out of the water & then rinse. I just tried it again before getting this response & let me tell you, slippery whippery in the shower. I scrubbed prior to water & eveything fell to the bottom of the shower, not fun. Will try it tomorrow as you suggest. Also, I have had some nice comments from the hubby so I will start my journal tomorrow.

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Well it turns out that Spectrum untoasted refined sesame oil is not for me. After 3 days on it my skin was dry and rough all over and the KP was coming back with a vengeance. My hands were cracked and itched like crazy. I couldn't take it so I went back to coconut oil. It's been 4 days on coconut oil again, and my skin is almost back to where it was before I started sesame oil. My hands healed the first day. The difference is amazing.
I am so glad I didn't start with sesame oil - I probably would have given up on OP altogether. I suppose I can cook with it. I plan to use coconut oil for another month before trying something else. I'm not anxious to repeat this experience. |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Since you had such a bad reaction,I wonder if it would be such a good idea to use it for cooking?
I started OP 1 1/2 weeks ago ith Coconut oil and seeing pretty good results. However, I have been reading up on the Sesame oil and it appears that is a more powerful detox so I thought I would give it a whirl this morning, eeeew. It isn't nearly as palatable as the coconut oil. I agree with you, if Ihadn't tried OP'ing with COconut oil at first, I most likely wouldn't have stuck with it. Although it wasn't as pleasing to the palate, I will stick with it a few more days to see if there are any notable changes. |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Sose,
I hope your sesame oil is untoasted . Toasted sesame oil has a strong flavor and a dark color. Untoasted has a light color (golden) and a mild, nutty flavor. Don't oil pull with toasted sesame oil. Ginger's reaction is interesting and underscores the fact that we need to try different oils to find the right one. My son swears by sesame and says it keep his sinuses clear. I prefer coconut oil, but I use sesame for a change. I also use untoasted walnut, avocado oil and grapeseed oil. I have never tried sunflower, but that is one of the oils recommended for beginners. kebod

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hi Kebod-
I did use the expeller pressed sesame oil (untoasted). It wasn't necessairly a taste issue it was more of a texture issue. You have to admit that the coconut is a bit yummy. The sesame is bland, have you ever added flavoring to the sesame oil? I used to take a Benedryl every night to keep my sinuses from plugging up. Since OP'ing with the coconut oil, I no longer need the Benedryl. However, my sinuses are still a little stuffy during the day so this is why I thought I would try the sesame since it is the reccommended oil for the sinuses. Also, I think I read somewhere that the sesame oil makes your teeth much whiter than the other oils. |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Sose,
I think it is the coconut oil that is best for tooth whitening. But try both and see what you think. Yes, the coconut is yummy. I want to eat it by the spoonful. In fact, I do! Coconut is my favorite, but I really like the taste of sesame oil, so it hasn't occurred to me to add anything to it. I also love how walnut oil tastes. You can add a few drops of oil of oregano to any oil if you feel like you are getting a sore throat or if you have gum bleeding. It is also supposed to be helpful for small cavities. Oil of oregano is anti-bacterial. Also, I think I have read of adding peppermint oil to pulling oil. After you have OPed longer, you may find your sinuses stay clear during the day. If not, have you tried salt water snuffling? Some people use a neti pot, but I prefer to cup my hand, pour in some warm salt water, and snuffle it up each nostril several times. Then a good nose blow, and repeat several times. You won't believe how clear your sinuses feel. This is also a good deterent for colds or sinus problems. If you are interested, Google "salt water nasal flush". Here is one link for more info. Salt Water Flush - Nasal Saline Irrigation - Sinus Rinse kebod

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Once a day is enough. Make sure you do it on an empty stomach.

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Kebod, I just started oil pulling with sunflower oil. It's been about 12 days so far. Some days I do it only once and others I do it up to 4 times. When did you start noticing improvment? I have noticed some but not a bunch.
I also exfoliate once a day after showing and then I put on Eucerin. Should I use a different lotion that's better? Thanks! Any other advice would be appriciated ![]() Suzie |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
P&L,
Do you mean you do it 4 times back to back, or 4 times spread throughout the day? I noticed my KP lessening after day 21 of oil pulling, but we are all different and it may take you longer (or less time) to see a difference. Also, you may want to try a different oil after 30 days. Untoasted sesame, untoasted walnut, avocado oil, grapeseed oil and coconut are some of the other oils used for pulling. The only body lotion I use is a home made recipe with almond oil, coconut oil and beeswax. I don't have much experience with commercial lotions to be able to recommend one. kebod

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Kebod-
Sometimes when I Oil Pull, I find myself multitasking (ie: watering the garden, feeding the dogs, etc.) and I have at times pulled longer than the reccommended 20 min. Do you think that there are any pros or cons? Is it possible to over pull? So |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Sose,
I multi-task all the time when I pull, and often go more than 20 minutes. I don't think there is any problem with this. kebod

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Thanks Kebod.
I never oil pull back to back. If I do it 4 times a day its usually because I can't do it for long periods of time that day (I usually do it 10 minutes each). I'm going to start only doing it once a day for 20-30 minutes. Did you notice any small improvments befor the 21st day or did all the improvment happen on the one day? I've also noticed my skin being dry lately. Di dhtat happen to you? Thanks again ![]() |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Because for some, it can interfere with digestion, causing nausea. This is the original advice from Ayurvedic medicine, the ancient health system of India.
