Re: Oil pulling treatment
Hey there!
I tried oil pulling with sesame oil and just couldn't stand the taste. I was wondering if it would work just using olive oil? Thanks a lot! |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
MM,
If you don't like the taste, there is a good chance you are using toasted sesame oil. It has a pretty strong flavor. Untoasted sesame oil has a very mild flavor and is recommended. Olive oil has a strong flavor, also, so you may not like it. Why don't you try sunflower oil, another recommended oil? It is very mild. Keep in touch and let us know what you find. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Noobie,
Mixing oils is fine. One tablespoon is plenty. I only use 2 teaspoons. I have done it twice a day, but I don't think it made any difference, so now I do it once a; day, and that is enough to keep my skin clear and moisturized. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Kebod you were right... it was toasted sesame oil. Even though it didn't say that on the bottle. It said Pure Sesame Oil. I went and got an organic pressed sesame oil and it was light in color. What is the reason why toasted sesame oil is not recommended? Does anyone know?

Re: Oil pulling treatment
I've been oil pulling for 5 1/2 weeks now. Every time I use about 1 tbsp coconut oil and swish it around for 20 min. I was doing it for 3X a day but went down to 2X a day about a week ago. I dont think it helped at all. In fact, I'm starting to see some bumps appear on my forearms. So far sunlight's the only thing that has helped my KP.

Re: Oil pulling treatment
GB,
The reason toasted sesame oil is not recommended is because very high heat is used in the toasting, and a lot of nutrients are destroyed. CB, Thank for the update. I'm sorry oil pulling didn't help you. Did you try a different oil? Sometimes that makes a difference. Please post again when you find successful treatment. kebod |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Quote:
So for OP I stick with sunflower, sesame, red palm, walnut, and almond. I've used grapeseed a little and olive oil a little bit and pumpkin and rice bran oil. The first two - sunflower and sesame - are what was originally recommended by Ayurvedic practice. Since you and I have had that similar KP/acne issue, maybe we share something in common having to do with the coconut oil. But as I recall you also take O-3s and sometimes eat low carb, yes? so you may not be missing the fatty acids like I was and OP might not make a huge diff to you. If you do try it again, I'd suggest you go with the sun or sesame - bd |

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Stay with it, Noobie. I hope you can give oil pulling at least 30 days to see if it makes a difference with the KP. Things sometimes get worse before they get better. Isn't it great to have a natural teeth whitener?

Re: Oil pulling treatment
I just started oil pulling today. Right now I'm just using Extra Virgin Olive oil, because thats all we have in the house, but I asked my DH to get me some coconut oil for Christmas. I just took one teaspoon for about 5 minutes and spit it out and it was already white, then i took another teaspoon for 5 more minutes. Then rinsed my mouth out with warm sea salt water, I am amazed how clean my teeth feel even after eating breakfast. I'm going to take a few pictures and see if I notice any improvement in the next few months I will let you know.

Re: Oil pulling treatment
Noobie,
Don't worry about the color of the oil. That isn't as important as being able to do it for 20 minutes. You may want to spit out after 10 minutes, and immediately get a fresh spoon of oil (you can use a different kind) and do it for another 10 minutes. Please let us know if you continue to see more improvement. kebod |
