Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Catherine,
Welcome to the KP forum, Catherine. I'm so sorry to hear that you had a terrible headache. How awful! I see that Missliss responded that she had a headache also. It is possible that hers was caused by moving the oil too vigorously, as she also experienced jaw ache. I think it is possible that a jaw ache could lead to a headache. Are you moving the oil as slowly as you can? It hardly takes any motion at all. It is also possible that OP stirred up some toxins, and this caused your headache. Drinking lots of water -- at least 2 quarts a day -- and being regular (take a laxative if you need to) help with headaches when toxins are trying to get out. You may also want to ask about headaches and TMJ on the Cure Zone Forum (link in the preceding paragraph). I don't think I have read about TMJ in connection with OP. If you try OP again, please let us know if the headaches come back. kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Missliss,
I'm sorry you didn't see any results. This happens sometimes. What type of oil did you use? Is it possible you were moving the oil around in your mouth too vigorously? My sister OP'ed for months and never saw a change in anything, until one day she told me her dental retainer felt really clean in the morning, instead of the usual fuzzy feeling. This happened because there was less bacteria in her mouth. Even if you are not aware of any changes, bacteria is being removed from your mouth, which decreases the amount of bacteria absorbed by your bloodstream and carried throughout your body, putting a burden on the liver, which tries to deal with all the impurities we are ingesting, drinking and breathing every day. We can't see the inner changes that may be happening. kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Elsa has started a poll to see which remedies have helped KP. If you have had success with oil pulling, please go to:
Which treatment worked for you? and indicate that OP (or other remedies) helped. The results of this poll will help everyone make a decision on what to try. kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
coconut and no. i read numerous websites with directions carefully. i did exactly what was claimed to have worked. mouthwash rids ones mouth of bacteria too. i'll stick to that. i don't buy into it especially since i tried it and saw nothing. the inside of my body is fine. i am very healthy and rarely get sick. my liver isn't stressed OR taxed. liver and kidneys remove toxins from the body. our bodies are much more able to take care of themselves than you give credit for...if they weren't everyone would be sick and dying and needing transplants much more frequently. the human race wouldn't be able to survive. my sister is a biologist and she thought i was nuts for even wasting my time. scientifically speaking there are too many issues that would get in the way of this working. but i tried. and wasn't surprised at the lack of results. thanks anyway.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Missliss,
You are one of those for whom oil pulling did nothing, but if you have read other posts here, you will see that it does help others. My husband is a former chemist -- he owned his own analytical lab -- and oil pulling makes sense to him. He, too, will never stop oil pulling. Yes, our bodies are capable of great cleansing and healing, but our modern life style, overloaded with chemicals in everything we eat, drink and breathe, does put a burden on our systems. I completely understand why you did not continue with OP, but I hope you are able to understand that oil pulling does have great health benefits for others. Not every remedy used on this Forum helps everybody, but that doesn't make them ineffective for others. Thank you for posting. We need to hear all sides of the story, whether we have the same experiences or not. ![]() kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
After looking at oil pulling stories, I am kinda interested in trying it. I thought the process involved much more than just swishing something in my mouth...
I plan to start this ASAP but I was hoping to get some info about what oil to use. Mainly I am interested in Brand Names, Locations on where to find the stuff, possibly a description of the bottle as well as suggestions on which one tastes best. I have a lot of questions but I think I should start with these ones first. Thanks |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Badarms,
The best place to buy is at a natural food store or health food store. Look for untoasted sesame, sunflower or coconut. I have also used avocado and walnut (also untoasted). It is best if your oil is organic, but that may not be available. Look for oils that say "Cold-Pressed" or "Expeller-Pressed". I don't know what country you are in, but in the US, good brands are Spectrum and Hains. You can also buy oils on-line, usually cheaper. If you have more questions, please ask. kebod |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
I'm from Canada and our main Health store is GNC I think. Is there a difference in what each type of oil does or is the difference just taste and price? Is organic the same as unrefined?

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Hey,
Ive been oil pulling for 3 months now regularly with extra virgin coconut oil. I have seen absolutely no improvement in my KP. Im pretty disheartened. This was one treatment i truly believed would bring in some change. Is there anything any of you could suggest please?? |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Update: Just got the Spectrum coconut oil. It wasn't too expensive either which is great. I plan to try it tomorrow morning but I have a question.
Does the process only involve taking a TBSP of oil and swishing it in the mouth for 20 minutes? Or is there something I am completely missing? |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
That headache sounds terrible. I just did my first OP session and my teeth are tingly but I don't have intense pain.... yet... My nose/sinuses seem clearer.
What do most people here do after their 20 minutes of OP? I rinsed my mouth thoroughly and drank lots of water. Is that good enough to continue on with the rest of my day? |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
After reading this topic and doing a little research on oil pulling, I decided to give it a try. I went to my local health food store to purchase some sunflower oil, but they didn't have any, so I bought Hain expellar pressed Sesame oil. I pulled 3 times yesterday, and once this morning while I was in the shower.
My teeth are definitely whiter, and I had a sore spot on my gum where a tooth broke out, and the soreness is nearly gone! I definitely going to continue oil pulling to see what else might happen! I have told my mom about oil pulling, and she started with some EVOO she had at home, but I got her some Sesame oil today, so she can start using that. When we were out to lunch today, my mom was so excited about my teeth (she noticed the difference, too!) that she couldn't wait to try hers! |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Badarms,
You have it -- it is nothing more than slowly moving 1 tablespoon of oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes. Then spit, brush your teeth, and rinse with warm salt water, if you wish. If one tablespoon seems like too much, use less -- whatever feels right in your mouth. Why me, Whiter teeth are often the first thing people notice when they start oil pulling. Oral (mouth) health, clearer skin and clearer sinuses are the top three areas where most people see an improvement. Ridvid and others, If you see no improvement, try a different oil, like untoasted sesame, avocado or sunflower. You should use a different oil every 30 days, anyway, for maximum benefit from oil pulling. Ridvid, a few see no change or improvements with OP, and you may be one of them. I really believe, though, that even though you can't see changes, this is still a very healthy practice, ridding your mouth of oral bacteria which would otherwise pass into your bloodstream and pose a burden on the liver and other cleansing organs. Medical science has found a link between oral bacteria and heart disease and diabetes, among other illnesses. If OP does nothing else, it decreases oral bacteria. That is what accounts for fresher breath, pinker tongue, whiter teeth and less plaque. Plaque and bad breath are caused by bacteria. Please keep in touch with questions and comments. kebod Last edited by kebod; 02-26-2008 at 09:13 PM.. Reason: addition |

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling
Thanks for the reply Kebod. I have no trouble doing 1 TBSP at once, I think it feels cool.
Do I have to brush my teeth right after or can I just rinse, drink lots of water and then eat something... Final question/statement: About 1 hour after my first OP (I have just now finished my 4th) I came down with a cold. The change seemed drastic from how I was feeling before the OP to after the OP so is that the Detox happening already? I almost always have a cold and stuffy sinuses so I can handle the suffering (although it sucks how it happened when I was in a very healthy feeling state) but it seems unlikely that the detox stuff happens so fast. Also, I am very glad that I haven't suffered any headaches or pain from the OP so I'm glad that I can continue. |
