Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

USe 1/2 teaspsoon of sea salt to one cup of warm water. If you don't have sea salt, regular table salt is fine. Rinse your mouth, and gargle also.

Question Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Hey, I'm interested in trying this out with coconut oil. (: I have mild KP on my arms and the back of the legs. I've been exfoliating a lot, which really helps with my arms, but not so much with my legs, and it just takes up so much time. Since I'm going to be going off to college next year I'm looking for a less time-consuming treatment that isn't all that expensive.

If I go to a health food store and ask for coconut oil, will they have it? Also, is the "sea salt" really necessary?

Lastly, I've read that supplements can also help. What kinds should I get and where can I get them?

Thanks so much for all your help!

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Sjak,

Many people with mild KP and little redness have had success with oil pulling. Those with severe KP and lots of redness may have less bumps with OP, but the redness remains. I suggest you just try oil pulling to see if it helps or not.

Asin,

A good-sized natural food store or health food store should have coconut oil. If they don't, ask then to order it. Omega Nutrition and Nature's Way are two good brands to look for. Sea salt isn't necessary, but it is nice to use a pure product without additives. If regular table salt is all you have, it will do the job.

As far as supplements, I would recommend an omega 3 capsule and a very good multi-vitamin. I also take calcium, zinc, Vit. A, E and C -- all to boost my immune system. I like Now brand vitamins and supplements, but it depends on how much you want to spend. Natural food stores will have supplements with no or less sugars, starches and unecessary additives. If you want to spend less and buy supplements from Wal-Mart, Target or Walgreens, it will be much better than not taking any supplements at all.

If either of you try oil pulling, please let us know if it helps and what kind of oil you used. I hope you try it.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Hello everyone, I'm very interested in trying "oil pulling," however I'm interested in finding out if anyone that is doing it has kp on their entire leg and not just their thigh??? I've always had it in minor fashion on my thighs, but did not have it appear on my calves and behind my knees until after I had my daughter. Is anyone else out there experiencing this? If so, I was interested in seeing what kind of products you use for hair removal on your legs? Shaving seems to make it soft or a day, but then the next day I have more little bumps and have irritated my kp making some of them enflamed and look like ingrown hairs! It's very annoying and it won't go away....I hate it because I feel like I can't wear dresses without leggings or anything because of my kp. HELP!

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

gabmar, I had mild KP on my thighs, but not on my lower legs. i think OP is worth trying. I have found my skin is so improved and very soft. I even have my husband and son OPing. I have no KP now. Oping is worth it, just for the dental benfits. My teeth are so white and feel like the dentist has just cleaned them. Also my period has much improved (sorry TMI).
I think it is worth a try. You never know what benefits you may discover.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Sig,

Soft skin, whiter and cleaner teeth, and more comfortable periods are all common benefits of OP. I'm so glad you are experiencing all of this and shared it with us. Other common benefits are clearer sinuses and fresh breath.

Keep on pulling!

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

One last question, are people finding that the results are universal with various oils? I'm trying to decide if I should buy sesame or coconut...but at this rate whichever they have available first, is going to be what I am going to buy! Hehe. Anyways, if someone has a thought on this, could they let me know? Thanks.

I use coconut oil in the morning, Almond in the afternoon and sesame at night. Have just got some sunflower to try too. Not sure when I will fit that in. Maybe instead of the almond oil. My husband and son only do it once a day and they are both using sesame.
Enjoy.
Before I started I expected it to be awful, but I love it. It is like a meditation for me. I am almost addicted to it. Today i have already oped twice and it is only lunch time. I wonder if you can do it too much.

Ok, am I doing it right if it just comes out a little foamy...I did it for the first time this morning...and honestly a tooth ache I had has lessened in intensity...which is amazing! But I just wanted to make sure that I'm doing it right even if it doesn't come out all yellow and foamy???

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Oh whoops, nevermind I read it wrong on the oilpulling site and it should be white and foamy...which it was!! So I hope that's good...I hope I'm doing it right....I did a mix of swishing and sip and sucking since the liquid gets to be a little much in your mouth after twenty minutes of being mixed with your saliva. I hope it works....I'm excited and I can already feel my tooth hurting less...so maybe others out there are noticing that as well!! I can't wait to report about my kp!

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

Garbmar,

It sounds like you are doing it right -- moving the oil around in your mouth as slowly as you can for 20 minutes. If your mouth fills quickly with saliva, spit it out and start again, even if 20 minutes haven't passed.

I had a tooth ache a few months ago and swished several times a day. It took two days of OP, but the ache disappeared the second day. Healthier and cheaper than a dentist! If anyone tries this for a tooth ache, and the pain doesn't stop after a few days, see a dentist.

You can add 2-3 drops of oil of oregano to the oil you are pulling with to add extra anti-bacterial properties to OP for mouth problems.

Re: Cured at last with oil pulling

It is my opinion that the reason for the benefits of oil pulling is the combination of fatty acids and/or Vit. E added to most oils. The sublingual (under the toungue) glands are highly absorbent which means it goes straight into the blood stream, whereas just swallowing the oil would mean it would have to go through the entire digestion process. A friend of mine had a baby that suffered from severe eczema (alligator skin). I have always read that skin conditions are almost always caused from an essential fatty acid deficiency so I told her to give the child some type of supplement. When giving it internally the supplements had no effect, however when rubbed directly on the skin the child's condition immediately improved. For all those doing the oil pulling I hope you use a very high quality cold pressed oil, because even though you do not swallow the oil, it is being absorbed into your blood stream. (Even more so than if you swallowed it,especially if holding it in your mouth for 20 mins.)

Also, I would like to add that the skin and liver are directly related to each other. Liver health reflects in the skin. A liver cleanse can reap many benefits. I would always recommend a colon cleanse first, then follow with a liver and finally a blood cleanse.
