Re: With KP and Scared.
You are definately not alone, my arms are terribly scared because i have a bad habit of picking at them constantly. I even have a semi formal thats coming up in a few weeks and i'm almost embarassed to go because of my arms. All the time i get stared at if i wear a t-shirt. I'm realizing now though that i would rather have this condition than something worse.
Though i still have problems popping this nasty bumps i have found a few solutions to help the redness/ keratin to go away gradually. There is a cream out there called Lac- Hydrin that actually reduces the bumps, and there is a cream by neutragena that helps the redness ![]() As crazy as it sounds taping the tops of your finger nails, helps because when theres nothing sharp nothing will pop or just cutting your nails REALLY short will help as well =D |

Re: With KP and Scared.
I know exactly how you feel. I had KP when I was about your age, and it was horrible. You know what though.. nobody ever made fun of me about it. Mine was really bad too. I didnt have it on just my arms.. I had it everywhere, and it was really BAD! I was always paranoid about it, and thats the worst thing you can do. I can guarantee you that more than half the kids in your school are affected with it at least on one part of their body. Your KP will improve, just take my advice and dont try to scrub them off or overdo it with lotions and stuff. That ended up making my condition worse. Just do everything in moderation. Dont use lotions with fragrance and alcohol (as per my dermatologists advice).

I know how you feel!
Don't worry about what people think, and if they ask you what it is just tell them. They may even have it and just not know what it is! More people than I even thought are affected by KP, most of the people I know have it somewhere. I'm 17 and when I was around 14-15 the KP on my arms was so bad I *never* wore any shirt that came above my elbows. I had it on the backs and the fronts of my upper arms. I found that the more I popped the bumps the more there seemed to be! So try to break the habit of popping them. It's hard I know. This last year I'm noticing that my arms are very nearly clear, with no treatment. So keep your chin up, it most likely will get lots better as you get older. ![]() |

Re: With KP and Scared.
I can relate completely. In high school I NEVER wore a short sleeved shirt...EVER. Even during my P.E. classes I wore a sweatshirt or long sleeved shirt.
Depending on how bad your scars/KP are, you could try tanning beds. It helped me to reduce the redness and bumps (but it didnt completely go away). If you go that route use minimally, drink lots of water and take skin supplements. Or try a mystic tan to help disguise the redness without risk of sun exposure. If you have a pumice stone (like for your feet) you can gently massage your skin with that to help break up the keratin. Make sure your skin is very moist - right out of the shower before doing this. I have been using this method with AHA and have shown some improvement. |
