I'm 19 years old, I have been plagued with
KP (on my arms and legs) for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty sure I have it because both my parents had it, as does my sister. My mother's went away, and her skin is now flawless, but my dad still has his. It also seems that most people who have are of Scottish, Irish, German, Norwegian, or English decent....I am all of these, so, there ya go.
Anyway, I've pretty much tried everything, and the only thing that has been mostly successful has been to scrub my legs/arms during (nearly) every shower/bath, followed by moisturizing, since I was 12-years-old. Most of my
KP is gone, but it has taken almost 8 years of consistent maintenance to get to even this point, and the redness still comes back like goosebumps when it is cold outside, or when my skin is dry which, when you live in a cold region of Washington, is hard to avoid. Needless to say, it is just one more imperfection to make me self conscious. Most of my friends say they don't notice (like when they say they don't notice a pimple), but when your own eyes see it, it's hard to imagine others not being able to. On top of it, I'm young, I'm dating, and at "that age," so feeling self conscious about my appearance is something I don't want. I know I'm not alone in this.
I'm here to say that, sometimes, scrubbing/moisturizing can have a pretty positive result, but I have yet to find something that is entirely affective. I am opting towards getting the food allergy test to see if my
KP can be partially attributed to an allergen (I hope it's not gluten! I love my grains.) I am also considering trying DERMAdoctor
KP Duty. I just wasn't sure if $36 was worth only 4oz. I've heard there is a laser procedure that can be done as well, but that's a little risky (not to mention expensive) for my taste. I dunno....I'll keep experimenting, and I'll be sure to let everyone know about my progress. I hope to find SOMETHING that works in my lifetime.
Best of luck to you all!
