Re: kp and high school..
Wow, reading all these posts has made me feel a lot better. Resiliency, I too am in high school. I live in Texas where it feels like summer all year long. All of my friends wear shorts and skirts, go to beach, go swimming, etc. Whenever I get invited to something like that, I always make up some excuse of why I can't go. I have a few months left in high school now, and just looking back I really regret missing out on a lot of things. I still don't feel confident enough to just expose my skin, but I'm trying various treatments (tanning, oil pulling, acv) right now to see if I can cure my kp. I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes!

Re: kp and high school..
Hi. I'm Cassie. I am 16 and have been having KP for quite some time now. Yes, it is very annoying. Imagine going to your homecoming dance in a strapless dress. Yeah, it sucks. The one night that you could feel beautiful, I don't. I have been with my boyfriend for two years now, and he just found out that I have KP. I am a sophmore in high school, and wear a sweater everyday. No matter what the weather is like. KP is embarassing, but we all have to learn to live with it. Ok, enough with my life story. I got an account last night and instantly loved it. I saw a thread about someone trying oil pulling. Before I saw that, I had no idea what that was. Anyway, the guy that posted that thread said that it worked. Now, I am going to try it. I suggest that you try it too. It might work. And NO MORE KP!!!!!!
Go on Google and search up "oil pulling." By the way, instead of swishing for 10 minutes, the guy from the thread suggest you swish for 20 minutes and 2 times a day. He also gives more advice on what to do. His thread is not hard to find. |

Re: kp and high school..
Im an entering sophomore in high school too.I live in Arizona, where we always wear like no clothing,
and i have KP. Its not an incredibly bad, you can only see it when your up close. But i still don't let it stop me from wearing tanks and bikinis. This past year i was on the swim team, and track team. Both requiring little clothing. I haven't had incredibly bad experiences, and my friends totally support me. Get this; 67% of TEENS between 13-8 have KP!!! So were not alone. The only bad parts i've ever had with my kp is once i was at a party, and talking with my friends mom, and she brushed my shoulder, i thinking of my kp looked directly to see her reaction, it wasn't pretty. I didn't explain why, she has no reason to know. Its not her business. But i hope she thought I was cold or something. Also, when my brothers are being jerks they sometimes call my Reptile Skin. But what can you do, there brothers. So, dont worry about the KP. people are all diffrent. And take the advice of my weird 72 year old dermatologist "if a lad really cares about you at this age, he wont care how your skin feels." hahah =D |

Re: kp and high school..
I think its easier when you married and secure with someone who loves you and accepts your KP, but right now im still in high school and can tell you the world is cruel but what i can say is that KP makes me a lot less self concious about my other flaws. Before I got braces I used to have teeth that were at a 45 degree angle to my gum but i didnt give a sh**... Id rather get rid of the KP than fix my teeth but my parents insisted i get braces (and why not now my teeth look good
).At my former school I was somewhat known for my quick thinking and sharp wit, and I knew people wouldnt say anything because I was quick to point out their flaws even if it was a seriously hot girl... just start talking about her fat ass (it actually looks good like that) or tell her shes too tall (like a super model!) and she startd getting insecure. It might seem nasty but it does put a lot of people on their place, force them to treat you with respect and makes them realise they aint so perfect. It might sound as if I became the bully but I wasnt and Im still not. Im as nice as I can be with everyone at school, slow to get angry and usually straight up tell them that they're irritating me. Sorry guys, this is just me rambling along getting my frustration with life out. Im hoping plastic surgery works but I dont wanna really go that route-_- |

Re: kp and high school..
I'm going into highschool, & to be honest, i'm freaking out a little.
I'm praying that OPing works before I go. I'm beyond sick of wearing sweaters and long pants every day just to cover my skin. It's hard to feel pretty sometimes, but hey, skin doesn't make a woman. |

Re: kp and high school..
I'm 15 as well, and I live in Hawaii (so it's pretty hot over here), and yes, I will be a sophomore this year in high school. I've lived with KP my entire life. I'm just going to get straight into it, stop wearing the sweater if the weather does not require it. I've never tried to hide my KP ever. I don't have it that bad, however it is noticeable. Living in Hawaii, there is a lot of body exposure, especially around the beach areas. Me being a guy, I probably wouldn't know exactly how it feels to be a girl and have KP, but to be honest, your best option is to act as if you've never had it. Have a blast, go on the beach, go out with friends, go out on dates, live a little. I'm in a KiteSurfing team, and I go out there like everyone else would. I don't put a wetsuit on, I don't try to hide my KP, I go out there and have fun; And that's what you should do, have fun, and don't worry about it. If your friends will see your KP in a negative way, well then find some "Real" friends. I expose my body A LOT, and you know what, people seem to care less about it the more they see it, in fact some popular girls at my school think I'm hot without my shirt on, isn't that amazing? When I do a show with my band, I take my shirt off all the time.
My point is, you shouldn't do anything unnescesary to cover something, that you don't need to cover. I mean, for god sakes, it's not like you have a 100,000 warts all over your body, and you MUST not show it. Go ahead and expose your body. Don't let KP take over your life. Just like the commercial "Cancer does not have me, I have it", and in this case KP does not have you, you have it. As for solutions? Tanning helps A LITTLE. I constantly tan every week out on the beach, and it doesn't do very much, sure it'll get rid of maybe 10 or 20 bumps.... But that's nothing compared to the entire KP. I've tried lactic acid, milk baths, tanning, scrubbing. Not a lot of works for me. But putting on lotion with Alpha Hydroxy Acid really helps, and I must stress that out. You can get a really good one (which I use), but it's only available online. You can find it here Dermalogica gentle cream exfoliant, with Alpha Hydroxy Acid Complex, 2.5 fl oz: Compare Prices, View Price History and Read Reviews at NexTag. It's a bit pricey, but really worth it. I've seen my KP reduce in half because of this lotion. But you're best cure is to ignore completely. That's probably the best advice anyone give to you. And who cares what everybody else thinks? I can understand the fact of not being comfortable with yourself, and that's just something you need to conquer yourself. But if it's just that you care what other people think? Ignore them. No one can be the hottest person in the world. To sum it all up, Use alpha hydroxy acid lotion, take off that sweater, don't let KP take over your life, and do what you want. No one is forcing you to do anything. Good luck. |

Re: kp and high school..
I totally know how you feel, I'm 17 and live in Florida, I'll also be moving to South Cali soon. It's so depressing to see everyone running around in short sleeves, shorts, and bikinis.
I'm homeschooled, so I don't have to worry about highschool, but really it's only kept me from getting out even more because of shyness. I guess the best advice is to just ignore what your mind tells you and to get out there and have fun, but I have yet to convince myself into doing so yet either. Good luck. It's nice to see all these people with the same problem. |
