I've got KP all over my upper and lower legs as well as my bottom
and on the back so my arms. It gets me so down, I'm 16 and go to an alls girls school. There's girls everywhere surrounding with their flawless skin. I feel like no guy will ever like me because of it but I know thats stupid and shallow but it's how I feel. I'm going to try Glytone Keratosis Pilaris Kit at DermStore this, hopefully it will help some. It's $56 dollars so it better work. |

To BooBoo:
I know just how you feel. I'm 15 and I've just realized this disease now. I have it on my upper-arms, thighs, face, and horrible on my butt. I always see those girls walking around with their perfect skin and ask "why can't I be like that?". It's an unfair world and you just have to deal with it. The guy factor is a big problem for me too and I always wonder if i'll find someone who can just accpet me for who I am.

Re: Any 15+ teenagers with KP?
I just turned 19 a little over a week ago, and I also have the Keratosis Pilaris condition. I have, however, seen it disappear.
A sister of mine also has this skin abnormality, and at one point, when she was using tanning beds on a regular basis, the Keratosis Pilaris on her arms disappeared almost completely. I know there is a connection, and it could well be true that the fake & bake method is perhaps even more effective than sitting in the sun. Maybe it is burning them off, maybe it is vitamin D related, I do not know. But, based off of what others have reported, aswell as what I have witnessed myself, it is certainly an effective weapon against the condition. We all know Keratosis Pilaris tends to worsen in the winter months. In the summertime, I did my own little project. I went outside every day with exposed arms, to evaluate the sun's effects on my condition. What I found was that it made the plugs darker, decreasing redness by at least 30%. It is better, but by no means satisfactory. And that is an entire summer's worth of regular exposure. Nevertheless, it appears to be a worthy complement to one's treatment arsenal. I feel as if I need to find the cure for my Keratosis Pilaris condition. But for now, if I can just control it, rather, I will be quite happy. So no one will know I have this metabolic issue, and chiefly, that I won't have to face the devestation anymore. The body can do some pretty amazing things once we figure out what the imbalance is. We know what the imbalance is, and yeah, sure it's genetic. But that's not going to convince me that it's permanent, or that it is unavoidable. As with any genetic weakness, it takes a watchful eye and an ever-vigilant attitude in prevention. I believe that counts for Keratosis Pilaris. Of course, for those of us who get it in childhood, we don't have the luxury, and in these cases, our option is to seek out the fix. You know, it is only a matter of time before some pharmaceutical dollars are pumped into studying this, and if they can find a way to make your body exfoliate properly, they will see an endless flow of profits. Depending upon the side effects, it could very well be worth it. But for now at least, I'm going to continue restoring my health to what it was in childhood. Exercise, proper nutrition, the constant consumption of fresh, living food. Exposure to the sun, general vitality. Something tells me that Keratosis Pilaris will have a rather difficult time existing in such an environment. I'll keep you posted. Last edited by McTendo; 12-11-2007 at 03:00 AM. |

Re: Any 15+ teenagers with KP?
I'm eighteen and I've had KP since I was twelve? I don't really have the redness but the bumps are honestly so ugly, as well as the texture is just horrible. Ive got it on my lower arms, upper arms, thighs, bum and lower legs.
It didn't use to bother me as much but now it seems to have got worse. Nothing really works for it, and none of my family had it (my mum did but she grew out of it, doesn't look likely for me). They really need to make a cure. |

Re: Any 15+ teenagers with KP?
I'm 20, and although I live in New York and am covered up most of the year, I still wear tanktops and regular clothing. And I have KP on my upper arms, and its worst on my upper back. It just bothers me when people say stuff like "ohmygosh you have a really bad rash! is that contagious?" and once I explain it, they've never heard of it so they continue acting like its gross. Tanning has helped more than anything, but seeing as I just lost my mom to lung cancer, the idea of bringing on any other cancer by lifestyle scares the hell out of me --- I think this summer I'm gonna try just spending more time in the sun instead of fake baking. Thankfully my KP only gets super bad in the winter and it's too cold to be exposed anyway.

Re: Any 15+ teenagers with KP?
Hey. Im 16 and Ive had keratosis pilaris since the age of 12ish, since im asian my kp looks lyk black heads and are dark brown. Summer is approaching and i want to wear all my new sleevless tops but having KP makes me very self consious!! I scrub daily and have a healthy life style. Ive noticed after scrubing my bumps have decreased in size however the dark brown dots are still there!!. I was wondering if anyone has tried a self tanning moisturiser that gradually build a tan??? does it help cover it up??

Re: Any 15+ teenagers with KP?
Im 14 in highschool.
its a real pain, eh? i have it on my arms and stomach. The sun helps with redness, so in the summer wearing short sleves adn staying in the backyard will help. also, try taking some omega 3 esentail fatty acids (in pill form) although it doesnt do much for me. AHA's are also helpful for many people (try lac-hyrdin) it works for the bumps but my KP is realy red =, the bumps dont realy bother me and it doesnt do anything for the redness so i dont bother with it. |

I'm 18 and have also had it since I was a child. I have KP on both arms and legs. Its easy for ppl to say not to worry. Ive been told that, but its not as easy. Mine seem to be dark brown/ blackish dots (im hispanic). I hate to wear strapless shirts bc it seems as if everyone stares at me. The good thing is now I know Im not alone.

Re: Any 15+ teenagers with KP?
Well, I am an 18 y/o guy...and i don't know what it is. But maybe having KP myself skin does not really bother me as far as attraction. I mean it is one thing if its bad on your face...which i can relate too seeing that i have kfrp(which i take care of with AHA creams bump/red free ^^) But worrying about KP on arms/legs does not seem like a big deal to me. Trust me when i say this, that guys are not looking at the skin on your arms/legs
