I am not convinced of the theory that KP mostly affects people with a Celtic background.
I have read that KP affects people all over the world. I have very mixed origins (Mediterranean/Latino/English) and I look mixed too with dark skin and hair but blue eyes!
I have always found the best treatment to be a suntan. Could it be that KP just shows up more on people with fair skin because they cannot benefit from a tan the way dark-skinned people do?
Good luck with the poll though - it is a good idea.

I'm black--but I am sun sensitive--and I have relatives who are darker and are allergic to the sun---

I have KP--and it has become worse during the last few years....

so.....

I don't know how well theories fit.

I agree. I am half white (British) and half black, tan easily (though I'm rarely out in the sun), and I've had it since before I can remember. Since I'm darker skinned, the bumps are darker THAN my skin, instead of what white people get - red bumps or those who are lucky enough to have no added color.

I know more black people (probably 4 or 5) that have keratosis pilaris than white.

white

I'm very white, where even dermatologists comment on how white I am. I have curly dark hair, LOTS of freckles and hazel eyes, and I've had KP as long as I can remember, specially on the legs and the backs of my arms, and around the bikini line. There are times when it has gotten better, but I don't remember what it was I was doing to improve it.

I usually use a loofah to scrub, and an exfoliating cream. Since I have skin cancer I cannot tan or take sun, and no dermatologists have ever mentioned KP, so I'm glad to know I'm not the only one and that it isn't something I'm doing wrong!

I'm dark skinned and I've had kp since puberty. I've heard the Celtic theory but I don't recall any red heds in my family but I could be wrong

i have very pale skin and blue eyes. One doctor commented that she's never seen skin as sensitive as mine. I actually think i just got a sunburn or some kind of sun poisoning driving home in 15 minutes! is that possible?

Smile

I have fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. I have freckles on my cheeks mainly but also on my upper back and arm. I wouldn't say I burn really easily, but it does take a long time to form a tan for me. I am also careful taht I don't burn since we had a skin cancer scare in my family a few years ago. Another thing that I wonder is if there is a correlation between KP and keliod scars. I am prone to developing keliods also.

I voted "3" but I might be between a 3 and a 4. I have 1/4 italian so I do tan pretty well.

Type 4. Italian, so while i'm usually pale white from wearing long pants and long sleeves all the time, an hour in the sun will turn me olive brown. The plus side to that is the tan does a lot to cover the KP. But since I won't go to tanning salons and i'm now living in the downtown area of a major city, it makes it hard to tan other than in the summer when i'm out playing sports.

I'm Skin Type 3 and I believe we have irish (celtic) somewhere in the line. I have KP on my arms and on the top of my thighs (isn't as bad on my thighs as it is on my arms).
