I really didn't see a difference, except for with my daughter, I was just thinking about how CLEAR my skin was period when I was hospitalized with her. I had a severe infection from kidney stones. I had to be fed thru IV's and received heavy duty antibiotics thru my IV's as well for 3 months. My skin was totally clear for the first time in my life. Although to be honest that was 21 years ago and they did have me on a lot of Demerol. Maybe I was just dreaming huh?

I first noticed it when I was nine. Now, 45, it is worse, since my skin gets dryer with age.
If I skip my daily scrub, or use a random mosturizer, it gets really awful. KP people are meant to be high-mentainance folks, I guess. |

It's not very accurate to assume that it never goes away with age. Obviously the people on this site (and respond to the polls) are those who still have the problem. Those whose KP has disappeared with age aren't on this website. Don't let the survey results make you lose hope! My mom had it when she was younger, and now she's 50 and KP free. Sometimes during the winter her arms get a little of it, but for most of the year she is smooth.

I have KP for as long as I can remember (I"m 46). I remember my cousin pointing it out on my thighs and saying, "oh you have chicken skin like me". I now know it's inherited. Later on, I took my daughter (who was 1 at the time) to a skin dr. She had little red bumps on her face, almost like pimples. I was told it was KP. The dr. then looked at my arms and said, you have it too. All over your arms. Gee, I always thought it was just rough skin and pimples. I now know that all these years, those "pimple" scars are from KP. If you squeeze, you will get the same scar a pimple can leave.

Mine developed in my early teens, just after puberty. It was really bad ( upper arms, legs, thighs). With age it has gotten better. I just turned 40 a few months ago and it is almost gone from my upper arms. The dots are less noticable. I have it on my inner thighs mostly these days. Been lucky it was only where the sun didnt shine, in that I mean anywhere that was covered by t-shirt and shorts. I tried lotions, vitamins and ultra violet treatments. Nothing worked so I just lived with it. I now notice my 11yr old daughter has it on her upper arms and along her jawline by her ears. For me when I was younger, It always seemed to die down in the summer and worsen in the winter. For my daughter it is the same all year round. My only advise to her at this point is not to worry and hopefully it will lessen over time like mine has. I am a guy and havent been as self conscious about it, where my daughter is different. Hopefully after reading this site some more we can try different things that would lessen her problem and maybe she will out grow it some as I have.

I'm 37 now and I guess I had KP from the age of 10 - 11. I remember the kids in junior class asking me if I was cold - they thought they were goosebumps.
It's definately got worse as I've got older. I used to only have them on the front of my thighs and the backs of my upper arms. Now it has spread to my stomach. PC |

Worse...
I'm 36 and this is the worst my KP has been. If these new areas are the beginnings of new KP areas, then this is the first time it's spread and really become worse. If these new areas are something else, then the increase of KP symptoms is a little worse than it has been, but not majorly so. I just need to figure out if these new areas are KP for sure or not.

i do not believe kp does improve with age, as one of the oldest members i can state that i was advised many years ago (althought they did not know what the condition was) that it would improve with age. i have found this to be the standard answer from the medical profession. several years ago i visited a herbalist who looked at my kp in amazement saying she had never seen anything like it before! stupidly i paid and took the prescribed treatment even though i knew she didn't know what it was! daft or what? i was so desparate to get rid of my embarrising condition i deluded myself into thinking this could be it! needless to say the vile concoction i consumed over the next couple of weeks had no effect on my skin condition whatsoever (only affected my bank balance!)
my kp came it seemed almost overnight, but probably puberty caused the onset. this was followed by many years of embarrising situations which i am all sure you can relate too. you name it i tried it, i found this website last year and tried many of the suggested remedies. stupidly i exfoliated with the pumice sponge until my arms were streaming with blood, then when i had dried them, applied Soul Owner Foot Cream. never in my life have i experienced pain like that, my own fault as not following directions regarding use of this product. i was just so desparate to have nice skin like my other sisters. many days later healed ok by kp still there but not so bad(not worth the pain) i started to use biore pore unclogging scrub 3 months ago with gentle rub with pumice sponge followed by cetaphil lotion. i can now say i would have no hesitation in showing my arms in public as 90% soft and smooth. i think it is just a matter of trying different remedies from this website as we are the most experienced people in this condition. |

My poor daughter is 13 and has it on her face. Some days are worse than others. The skin doctor gave her a cream for it, but I don't think it's going to help. It may make her skin feel a bit smoother but not sure it will help with the redness. I found that exfoliating my upper arms helps it and then I use body and bath cream (not lotion, it's too thin) on my upper arms afterwards. It makes it feel smooth for a few days...but those little red dots are still there...just smoother! I always wondered why others had such smooth looking skin on their thighs but mine always had these red bumps. Its disheartening to find out that it's a condition that has no cure.....yet.

My KP is improving, but I believe it is b/c I'm more agressive with finding treatments that work. When I was in my teens and 20's, I just scrubbed and moisturized with whatever was around. Now I'm treating my kp with aha'a and bah's and I'm seeing a huge improvement.

At 33 my KP was worse than ever. It got worse every year since it first showed up when I was about 13. I found a personal "cure" for it last week: my skin has always been easy to make smooth, but now the redness is also completely gone. But as far as age improving it? That never happened.

Galatea, what's your personal cure against the redness? Because I mainly have the redness and i never found a cure and it is so frustrating....
