Bad reaction to Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Plus Intensive Repair Lotion
Has anyone had a bad reaction to Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Plus Intensive Repair Lotion? I used on my daughter twice (she is 4) and now she has inflamed red bumps. It has spread as well. She only had a few bumps on her arms and face and now they are all over her arms and her back. I am now using CeraVe cream (recommended by Dr.). Please help. I feel so guilty about using this lotion on her.

Re: Bad reaction to Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Plus Intensive Repair Lotion
Sorry to hear that happened to your daughter, theres several reasons for this problem, maybe its kps natural "evolution" or a reaction that will not last for long, ¿would you describe where the bumps are spread now and how it was before you use this lotion?
I havent tried that product but if you post the ingredients list we can check which could be causing the reaction or allergy so you can avoid it in the future. Last edited by Leah83; 01-23-2010 at 11:01 PM.. |

Re: Bad reaction to Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Plus Intensive Repair Lotion
Thank you so much for responding to my post. Before the lotion she had only a few little small bumps (were not red) on the back of her arms and a few on her cheeks and chin. After applying the lotion she had raised, extremely red and inflamed bumps (some in clusters) up and down her arms, up and down her sides (trunk), back, and chest. Most of the bumps are on her arms, up and down her trunk and back. I have been using hydrocortisone cream on her of a few days and it has helped with the inflammation. They are more pink now and not raised as much. They feel rough. I feel so guilty about using this lotion on her. She has not complained of itching or pain assoicated with them. It's like they came out of no where. I used the lotion on her at night before bed (after bath) and in the morning she had all of these inflamed red bumps. Did the lotion bring the KP to the surface? She never had the bumps on her back or up and down her trunk before. They were never red or raised or in clusters. Will she go back to the way she was before applying the lotion? Any help would be appreciated. She was just recently diagnosed with KP. The dermatologist reccomended CeraVe cream, but I could not find it. When I read all of the posts on here I decided to try the Eucerin Plus instead. Thank you so much for your help.

see if this link works: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/pro...Repair_Lotion/ it has a hazard score of 4 out of 10. and fwiw, I probably wouldn't use AHAs on a child. If she only had a few bumps and they weren't getting infected or itchy, it sounds to me like you could just ease off. Maybe try shea buteer or coconut oil or something that is generally considered gently and non-toxic and non-peeling. KP is not really a life-threatening condition and technically, doesn't HAVE to be treated. As she gets older, if she's self-conscious about it, she could try some of the various treatments aroud here, starting off gentle.

Re: Bad reaction to Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Plus Intensive Repair Lotion
Thank you Bunnyday. I was thinking I would try the Coconut oil once the inflammation goes down. I wish there were more warnings about that. This lotion was on the "what works for KP children" in this parents forum. Several of the children's KP websites recommended other products that had AHAs. I just read so many posts on here that made my heart break about their children being teased and be so self-conscious. I just thought that I needed to get on top of it right away since she was diagnosed. I guess I figured if I started to moisturize now so she would not get worse later. Would you recommend mineral oil in her bath? I would like to try some more natural remedies after this experience. Neither myself or my husband has KP so this really is unknown territory and the dermatologist really brushed it off. Would you reccomend the soild or liquid for of the coconut oil? Thank you again for responding and the information.

Does she usually just have some bumps on the back of her arms, maybe a bit of dryness and not much redness? I avoid petroleum based products but some people like them so the mineral oil might be ok. it might take a little bit of experimentation on your part. or just apply coconut oil or almond oil before and after bath? My son has some very mild KP. I don't bother with oil in the bath anymore but partially cause his skin is in better shape since being gluten-free. (He's diagnosed celiac now too.) We do epsom salt baths a couple times a week and he takes kids omega-3s and those two things help him pretty well. I pour the epsom salts into his hands in the bath and he rubs them on his legs and arms, not hard and not for long, but it's sort of a game and he likes how it feels as they dissolve. Maybe this gives you some ideas? good luck!

Even these ingredients are not in high concentrations when comes to childrens skin we must be careful. Methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone are preservatives known to be irritants and are recommended only for rinse off products. Im not an expert, you can check the reviews in the page that bunnyday posted, like this we learn about which ingredients to avoid, but in the end we can be allergic to practically anything. About mineral oil, i dont see any problem about it, its not pore clogging and is the best moisturizer as petrolatum and coconut oil are, this one is solid at room temperature. |

Re: Bad reaction to Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Plus Intensive Repair Lotion
I used coconut oil one her and it has practically gone away. I bought Spectrum Naturals Organic Coconut Oil. I found it in the cooking oil section of my local grocery store. It is solid, but it goes on super easy, it not greasy and has no sent. Praise God!

Re: Bad reaction to Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Plus Intensive Repair Lotion
I'm having the really bad allergic reaction to it right now. I used it Friday-saturday and on Sunday the nettle rush/hives appeared in the areas where it was applied. I've had a bad allergic reaction to Veet hair-removal cream about 10 years ago- the hives type as well, so bad that my legs were swollen up to the knees(glad it was 1/2 legs) and antihistamine cleared it up quite fast - so there is no mistake, it's definitely the same allergy - the red bumps where there were none, itching like from the nettles and heat sensation, recation in the areas where the cream was used.
