3 year old, dryness, oiliness

Hi, my 3 year old son has very bad KP on his face and arms. I know they say that KP skin is dry, but his seems almost oily. And when I used eucerin creams and other creams suggested by the doctor, it made his KP worse - like one would expect if you used creams on acne/oily skin.
"
Why does his face seem oily when I keep reading and hearing that it is dry skin? Does anyone else have this experience?
"
Oh, and if I don't give him a bath every night, it gets worse. This also goes against what I've been reading about KP!

Thanks

Linda Lou:

Welcome to the forums!

Have you tried applying apple cider vinegar (unpasteurized) as a tonic?
Then, do not moisturize...

Is it very bumpy or mostly irritation? Is it on the face or in the arms?

Hi Elsa,

Actually I just went out and got some ACV after I saw your post from the other day. So do not moisturize after applying it? - That's what I was thinking but then everything I read talks about it needing to be moisturized because they say it's dry skin. The derma prescribed amlactic (and about 4 others that we've tried that all have AHA or urea in them). The one that seemed to help the most - but only for a little while - was the Umectra.

Noah has it all over his arms, his face, and some on his legs.

He also has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair, crossed eyes, sometimes doesn't hold his head up, can't talk...but you know what people ask about? "What's that on his skin?"

That kinda makes me laugh! Like he has all these serious problems but the one people ask about is his skin!

Anyway, I want to get rid of it!! It's seriously affecting his "cuteness factor" Just kidding, I think he's the cutest kid ever, but maybe I'm a little biased

How many times a day should I apply the ACV? It doesn't seem to bother him. I'm also thinking about trying that seabuckthorn soap.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

Linda

Hmmm, I really don't know how often it should be applied, but I will browse the forum or maybe someone that reads this can help us here.

apple cider vinegar

Hi Elsa,

Well I started the ACV about 3 days ago, applying it twice a day. So far it seems like it is making a difference! I almost hate to say that because I'm afraid it will jinx it

Actually my husband didn't know I was doing this and he made a comment that noah's skin looked better.

I've just been applying the ACV and nothing else - no moisturizer or special soap.

Let's hope it continues to improve!

thanks for the tip!!!

Linda

LL,

I'm so glad you are having success with ACV, a common, inexpensive product. If your son's KP lessens by 50% or more, please post your experience on the sticky thread Success Stories: What Works for KP on Children

Thank you,

kebod
