Exfoliating in young children....what to do????

I know that the AHAs/chemicals aren't good on young children and wouldn't dream of using them on my 2 year old but I was wondering what kind of exfoliation that would be OK if any. I have some of the exfoliating gloves that I use but I know how it feels on me so I can't imagine what it would feel like to him. I have just started the EVCO on him and it did make his a little softer but not by much. I know I need to give it more time but his is the skin colored "sandpaper" type and my husband keeps trying to get me to use the gloves I have on him.

I wanted to get some info from other parents before I did anything. I probably will just give the EVCO longer but wanted to ask so that I can prepare for the next step if this doesn't work completely.

Re: Exfoliating in young children....what to do????

Hey bpayne!!
I am very young and my skin is pretty sensitive but I use this soap called Buffy by Lush, a company that uses only natural ingridients. This bar of soap is amazing because it gently exfoliates and moisturizes at the same time. And I have KP that this soap REALLY took care of. You can purchase it online but I found mine at a temporary stand at Macy's. Hope that helps!!

Re: Exfoliating in young children....what to do????

my poor lil mans skin is still a work in progress but I bought something called the magic peeling glove online...I think at amazon for about $45 then I only did one side (arm and leg) to see if it made a difference (for about a week) and it did help quite a bit. I would let him sit in tub for about 5 min and wash him with head to toe wash then wet the glove wring it out and dry it with a towel so it was only damp then I would towel dry one arm rub it a little with the glove and do the same with his leg and put him back in tub. you will actually see the white plugs start to surface, i really just started about two weeks ago and the right side is still clearer and i have been doing both sides for a week..i used to use a buff puff and it helped but also irritated it, this is smoother not scratchy. just resist the urge to do it too hard or too often ( I did every other day ) and the results will be good. ( i actually used this on my face and could see the skin that peeled off but I also did it harder on myself) I also found if the glove or skin was too wet it didnt work as well. like i said I am still searchin and have an appt at chop dermatology in philadelphia in january (they are supposed to be very good) so let me know if you find anything interesting!

Hi BGR,

That's great that you have found something to help your son. Please tell us how old he is and how severe -- mild, moderate or severe -- his KP is. Also, can you estimate by how much (percentage) this method has helped him? Please let us know if he continues to show improvement.

Thank you,

kebod
