KP and Milk Allergy?

My 21 month old son has had KP since he was 9 months old. It began on his arms and is now on his legs and cheeks and is pretty bad. This may have been covered before (I'm brand new to the site) but could his KP be aggravated by a food allergy? It appeared after I began supplementing with a cow's milk based formula at 9 months, and has only worsened since then. Perhaps its a coincidence, but I'd like to know if anyone else has found similar connections.

Thank you!

Re: KP and Milk Allergy?

It's definitely a common theory on this board. It's not true for everyone as I am a vegan so I haven't had dairy much for the last couple of years (I wasn't strict at first but I think I haven't had any at all in at least 8 months or so) and giving it up has had no effect on mine. But there is enough anecdotal evidence to suggest a link in my opinion. There are lots of posts if you do a search where people have had improvements after going dairy-free.

Although you must be careful if switching a young child to a dairy-free diet as soy-milk is not normally suitable for children less than 3 years old and it is important to make sure that the child has enough calories in their diet. But as long as it is done safely it could be worth a try. My cousin once removed has been allergic to milk from birth so I'm sure it must be possible to cut it out.
